Thu, 24 Jan 2008 13:33:35 -0800

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports University of Wisconsin CB Jack Ikegwuonu (knee) suffered serious knee injuries while training Tuesday, Jan. 22. He suffered a torn ACL, a torn MCL and damage to his kneecap and will need reconstructive knee surgery, according to a source. It is unclear if he will be taken in the 2008 NFL Draft.

That's a real shame. I feel for him.

I bet someone will still take a flyer on him in the mid rounds. He's way too talented not to be drafted.
Sounds like he could miss more than 2008

A girl in my dorm tore her ACL and MCL last year, and her doctor told her that she couldn't play sports for three years.

I'm no physician, though.
Culpepper had a similar injury

took him about two years to even sightly resemble the guy he used to be.
oh my god,

that kid not only cost himself money but possibly a career. That is horrible.
That sucks!

Wish him well.

To bad they don't have insurance policies.
That Willis McGahee serious.

Somebody will draft him, but they're gonna have to be patient.
Feel bad for this kid

Willis McGahee was a first round talent playing a more important position RB. This kid is a 2nd round prospect playing CB. He might not get drafted. He might have to go into the NFL as a rookie FA in 2009 or 2010.
Tough break

especially for a position that relies on spedd and quick adjustments. One has to wonder if he would have been doing that training has he stayed in school. Not in the same league, of course, but like Sean Taylor being home cause of his injury.

Also from a WI paper:

"He's screwed now," an executive in personnel for an NFL team said. "He wasn't going to be that high of a pick, anyway. Fourth round.

"I blame the agent for talking the kid into coming out. Stupid. Because he wasn't a first-day player."

Ikegwuonu signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus on Jan. 5 and declared for the draft before the Jan. 15 deadline. Players had until Jan. 19 to change their minds and regain their collegiate eligibility.

I think Ike made a mistake coming out becuase his palyu actually dipped this year.
Was rated #12

ripdumaine : 1/24/2008 6:50 pm : link
out! i tore my acl and mcl needed total reconstruction screw and all. but it didnt take 2 or 3 years to get back. years ago maybe but now it doesnt take as long. 9 months his knee will be fine pyschologically is the different story. you dont trust it till you go through a play or drill that you dont think you can do anymore and walk away pain free
I wouldn't be upset
Jay on the Island : 1/24/2008 8:02 pm : link
if the Giants used their 2nd 6th round pick on the kid.
Colin of GBN....

Had him at #58 on his most recent draft board. Who knows what the consensus really is? If there's a team out there that had him as high on their board as Colin did, he'd surely be worth a 6th or 7th round pick, especially if they had extra picks. On the other hand, if the highest he was considered was a 4th round pick, he won't get drafted at all.
