Our biggest problem is dropped balls
Anak : 2/3/2008 7:26 pm : link
3 so far and the Smith one was like Shaun Macdonald's one against us. We need a WR. WR is our biggest offensive need. James Hardy....

GO NYG!
Make that 4
Anak : 2/3/2008 7:53 pm : link
Two on Smith
i feel weirdly confident
MS1987 : 2/3/2008 7:53 pm : link
no idea why. i just think we're going to win this thing. i really do.
The Defense is playing OUTSTANDING
NYMase : 2/3/2008 7:54 pm : link
We CAN NOT waste this defensive effort!

Let's Go Giants!!!
GREAT DEFENSE....
GloryDayz : 2/3/2008 7:54 pm : link
Thats sums up our half.
so frustrating to be down after outplaying them so bad
abcd : 2/3/2008 7:54 pm : link
what is the total yardage line?
When we knock Brady down
CT Charlie : 2/3/2008 7:54 pm : link
we should give him a hand pulling him up. He might turn his ankle. When he gets up on his own, he can do it carefully.
come on Giants
spike : 2/3/2008 7:54 pm : link
no more turnovers. Catch those balls and we have a shot !!
Great D

missed opportunities on offense.
Both QBs have exactly the same stats
PatersonPlank : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
except for Eli has a int and Brady a fumble. Manning 8-16 85 yds, Brady 8-14 85 yds
steve smith your

Frigin killing me
Tuck held on to Brady's arm
mwheeleror : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
as he forced the fumble. Looked like it had the potential to injure Brady's (eternally injured) shoulder.
New Englands body language
Paulie Walnuts : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
looks like they are losing, rather than winning
Smith blew a TD
Rflairr : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
there. Watch the ball and thats a TD
we
nyyseiler : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
should be winning the way were dominating on defense
Brady
Phil from WNY : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
looks unsure of himself. They may be getting to him. Make his nose bleed in the second half and he may starting throwing picks.
Great D!!!
yankeebsbll5 : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
But we're shooting ourselves in the foot on offense. Turn it around and we're golden let's go boys!!!!!!!!
Actually, it is good we kicked off
Some Fan : 2/3/2008 7:55 pm : link
ijn retrospect. Now, we have alot of haltime to rest the defense. More time than usual.
32-7 record of team leading at the half...

Go Gints
I'm wondering if we hurt

Brady's wrist on that last play for the Patriots. I bet we stretched his tendons.
We are

we are. believe.
Good game plan offensively
RDJR : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
we just need to execute. More running from Bradshaw is the only thing I would like to see more of.
steve smith sucks!!!
oipolloi : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
at least in this game

3 drops

and that Hail Mary bounced right to him and he looked like he was daydreaming
Boy Cord... I agree
Some Fan : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
I thoght Smith and Plax had a shot at that pass
Tuck
spike : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
and the rest of the DL playing like they are possessed by the 1986-1990 Giants D. Let's do it guys!!!

We need points!!

What game are you watching? We took the ball in the first half.
I've been drinking a lot today

My wife is yelling at the screen more than I am
You guys do know we should be winning this game
NY-Fan : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
The thing that scares me is that you can't pass on your chances and the Pats are hard to hold down the whole game.
7-3
SGMen : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
We are moving the ball but the Pat defense has made the plays when needed just like our defense has.

I predicted Tuck and Strahan for MVP and I expect both will continue to dominate as they aren't playing as many snaps on Defense as you'd think.

Biggest play of the game is Smith not hanging on cause we were driving there and the momentum would have been all ours had we scored even a FG.

Keys to second half include:

1. Must get the Pats 3 and out or better on their opening possession.

2. Must run the ball effectively so the receivers are left "one-on-one" and Burress will beat his man.

3. Keep pressure on Brady and stuff their run game.

4. Need a big play from someone, somewhere cause that is what champs do.
This is what I hate
Gmen56 : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
Way too much time to give Belichick and making adjustments.
Problem I have is
MikeN in Ottawa : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
we were running the ball well and then we throw...Thomas gets loose and knocks the ball from Eli...Smith and Bradshaw among others need to settle down. And Burress...if you are going to shoot off your mouth...you'd better show up.
Some Fan...
pganut : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
...I was saying to the wife Brady's lucky he didn't tear a pec on that hit.
We're right there
JoeMP2003 : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
a bunch of missed opportunities but some huge breaks for us that evened it out

Bradshaw did an amazing job on 2 fumbles in the first half that played major roles

The defense has been outstanding. The amount of pressure they are getting on Brady is an excellent sign. If this can keep up the Giants are a few good drives away from being world champions

Also, the time of possession is heavily in the Giants favor right now, and that bodes well for the 2nd half. Although with the extended halftime, Im not sure how much of a role that will play

I think the drive of the game will be the Pats first drive of the 2nd half. The Giants have to set the tone there and let the Pats know that the 2nd half will be more of the same. Pressure on Brady, stuffing the run, and forcing punts.

They have to set the tone in the 2nd half

I actually feel great about our chances despite trailing 7-3
We outplayed them in the 1st half
nyjuggernaut : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
yet we are down. that makes me nervous...although we seem to want it more than the Pats right now, we are physically dominating them!
If the rookies calm down a little
Mike in Boston : 2/3/2008 7:57 pm : link
we will win this one. We would be up without a few rookie mistakes--Smith's drop, Bradshaw's fumble and penalty.

Great job by the D!

Go Giants!!!!!!
Steve Smith is awful...looks like a deer in the headlights
SteveJobz : 2/3/2008 7:58 pm : link

The offense, specially the WR's, need to help Eli and the rest of the offense out.

MotownGIANTS : 2/3/2008 7:58 pm : link
the O needs to get in gear to many dropped passes. I think we should come out with AB in the 3rd. for a series of 2. Eli is playing pretty good only 1 bad throw.
Dude--Smith DOES NOT

Boy Cord : 2/3/2008 7:59 pm : link
... call on Bradshaw? Had that ball gone out of bounds the refs wouldn't have said a damn thing. How about Thomas HOLDING Bradshaw keeping Bradshaw from recovering???

There are NO moral victories Giants.

Boy Cord, I know that

I'm happy the halftime is long to rest our defense as we are kicking off.
We
AnishPatel : 2/3/2008 7:59 pm : link
need our HR threats or someone to hit a homerun. We need someone to do something.
You gotta think
halfback20 : 2/3/2008 7:59 pm : link
that New England's offense will make some adjustments. Let's just hope our defense matches those adjustments and our offense makes some adjustments of their own.
Eli needs to tuck the ball under and run
Gmen56 : 2/3/2008 7:59 pm : link
a couple of times to keep that defense honest.

Disagree. the offence is way too jittery. The have to loosen up. jacobs needs the ball a lot in this 2nd half.

Can we

have Sinorice Moss wear Steve Smith's jersey in the second half and make some catches?
Paulie

Paulie

Amani got away with one, so I won't complain. They're even.
It's
spike : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
time to unlease Lightning on the Pats. Their aging defense (esp linebackers) will be gassed by the end of 3rd quarter. It's go time for Bradshaw!
you can't make that call there
Paulie Walnuts : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
Bradshaw was trying to slpa that ball out of bounds
On the opening drive
CT Charlie : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
look for the Pats to fake the quick-out pass (where they kept getting 10-15 yards) and fire deep to Moss.
LPete
Matt in SGS : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
I agree, the offense looks a bit skittish out there. They need to settle down, they have this team where they want them.
smith was held in the endzone by a linebacker
Peter from CT : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link

Mike,
Burt in Alameda : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
I agree, the rookies just have to play better for the Giants to win. Also, we have to hold the Pats on their first drive. I think that is crucial.
I'll give Smith a break on the...
TonyG : 2/3/2008 8:01 pm : link
Hail Mary, that's tough, it shot right by him.
The ref's have been invisible...thank you much.
that should have been

a passing interference then if Smith was held in the endzone. Damn refs

That's a good call.
I am confident
deadkurtrulz : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
I want to fast forward to end when we win. Don't usually feel this optimistic but we really dominated LOS in first half.
Bradshaw 4 carries for 26 yards
abcd : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
He should have more than 4 carries and i hope he gets more than that in the second half
Pats may go deep on first play of this second half
Gmen56 : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
.
LPete
PetesHereNow : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
The effort's there, though. This defense is playing like madmen.

Regarding the offense, you're probably right that we're too jittery. It's excusable considering only 3 players have SB experience. That said, Plax lost track of the ball in the end zone on the 1st drive on the 1st down pass. Smith has to catch the ball that ended up being an INT. We could have 14 points right now. We're right there, I'm encouraged.
we NEED
spike : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
a New England turnover, ie Brady interception.
It is DUE!!!
Smith needs to get aggressive...become a real man
SteveJobz : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
No balls receiver, no killer instinct.
Yeah but we need Jacobs
AnishPatel : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
to step up. Break something or get more than 3 yards.
tuck may be the best DT in football
oipolloi : 2/3/2008 8:02 pm : link
wish Spags had him out there on that first drive
spike...we jsut had a new england turnover, but Steve Smith couldn't

Our DEF is dominating so far....we
Danbury Joe : 2/3/2008 8:03 pm : link

that should have been

pass interference on the hail mary, fucking bullshit!

Smith
Marty866b : 2/3/2008 8:05 pm : link
All of you complaining about Smith who is playing in about his fifth game as a pro while Plaxico drops a very easy one and Amani's only catch was a great pushoff which thankfully wasn't called. We need Amani and Plax to come up big.
Who's going to be the first offense to go to a razzle dazzle play

Warners0 : 2/3/2008 8:05 pm : link
our offensive coordinator is horrible. How many times when we lose yards on 1st down do we either run the ball or throw that stupid screen. If I know its coming then obviously the pats do.
With the long layoff for halftime

Guys, we've got big problems on offense.
Dave in N.Westchester : 2/3/2008 8:06 pm : link
Plax has nothing, he is just trying to gut it out. Without him, our pass offense is pretty non-threatening. Passes to Bradshaw and Boss are a MUST in the second half. Don't count on holding NE down all game.
Droughns in the second half if Jacobs can't get going?
NY-Fan : 2/3/2008 8:06 pm : link
I don't know.
Warners0

Are you new to the game or just retarded?
We shot ourselves in the foot quite a bit
SGMen : 2/3/2008 8:06 pm : link
We've taken away the Patriots run game and that makes them one-dimensional. Dockery on Welker helps us so much this game cause he is the one guy who is quick enough to keep up with Welker who is there "bread n' butter" receiver.

Brady hurried more often this first half then maybe any half he's seen all season. The Pats offense is in second gear but the thing with them is they have big play deep speed so we can't get soft for one second else it could be a long TD bomb again.

Our defense needs to come out this second half and just nail Brady upside his nose once again.
Beat these fucking cheaters
Some Fan : 2/3/2008 8:06 pm : link
Does the NFL really want a team that cheated to win the super bowl! These officials fucked us byu not calling pass interfernce on the last play. It was as bad as Antonio's!!!
Bradshaw's penalty
[] : 2/3/2008 8:07 pm : link

may have saved a turnover.

Bradshaw needs to be getting more carries. One or two plays and then to the sidelines makes ir hard to develop a rhythm.

Pierce's PI was the biggest play of the first half.
They need to be able to move
Bake54 : 2/3/2008 8:07 pm : link
Warren..which they didn't do in the 1st half
The difference
OlyWAJintsFan : 2/3/2008 8:07 pm : link
is that we've created the Patriots turnovers and we've created ours too. The breaks have to start going our way....just keep playing hard.

And don't be an asshole and start posting on threads like the halftime and postgame threads while the game is still going on....obviously some fucktards can't read......

Eli GUNNED that ball EARLY
Jint Fan in Buc Land : 2/3/2008 8:10 pm : link
to Smith, and some of you guys are killing Smith?!? The blatantly obnoxious stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Eli is playing solid but if he holds that ball a 1/2 tick, he could've, that would've been a TD.

Smith is a fucking rookie, Randy fucking Moss would only catch a ball like that half the time. We're still in this.
We need a big break.
GiantsUA : 2/3/2008 8:10 pm : link
Int. or fumble, we need some luck. O needs to get a TD, soon.
Tuck is amazing.
JW : 2/3/2008 8:10 pm : link
He has showed up huge in the Super Bowl much like Carl Banks did in XXI. I am so happy that he's locked up.

This offense needs to get their act together. The biggest issues are: (1) dropped passes; (2) Jacobs not running as well as he can (I'm a huge fan of his, but he's just not right); and (3) the intangible mental gaffe factor (see, e.g., fumble on handoff).

They can win this

Also when Eli does get these guys the ball the need to hold on to the ball!!!
Bradshaw and Jacobs will own the fourth quarter
SGMen : 2/3/2008 8:11 pm : link
But folks, don't discount the Pat offense and their getting the ball to start this second half. We could really get them reeling with a 3 and out.

I would hate for our defense to play superb all game and get into the fourth quarter with the game within a score and then give a deep one. The Pats offense and their team jsut win the close ones so we need to score TD's here. We had chances but choked.

WR Steve Smith didn't help us but he is also open more often then not and that has to have the Patriots worried this second half. Bradshaw has the stuff legends are made of, I think, and this game will be won on his back. Watch.

Tuck will nail Brady yet again this 3rd quarter and the Pats will need to keep the TE in the rest of the game along with their RB.
I just looked up the illegal bat rule
ray in arlington : 2/3/2008 8:11 pm : link
12-1-8. A player may not bat or punch a loose ball toward opponent's goal line. (10 yard penalty)

Not sure what would happen if a player tried to bat a loose ball out of bounds and it went forward a little bit. It is vague to say just "towards the opponent's goal line",
as the rule does.

Can Tom Petty be any worse of a choice for the halftime show?

is gonna end up being big. Get those old guys on the Pats suckin wind in the 4th and hit some big plays. Let's go Big Blue, 30 minutes of good football away from the Lombardi Trophy. All the mistakes are done with, back to the basics. Go out there and kick ass.
In the second half
Doc in Bklyn : 2/3/2008 8:12 pm : link
Don't be surprised if the Pats start trying to take advantage of the passrush by calling a lot of draws and screens. Especially slot screens to Welker.

spike : 2/3/2008 8:12 pm : link
the WRs have got to CATCH and HOLD on to the ball!! No more dropsies.

We should have a better time running the ball in the 2nd half. Our lines are dominating theirs.

I hope our special team will outplay their ST.

Watch for Moss and Welker in the second half.
Guys I'm so nervous.
Ash : 2/3/2008 8:12 pm : link
We gotta be careful on this first play. I still think we haven't seen the best of Brady. Any time we give up three, we're good. Gotta stop any big plays. This first drive is absolutely crucial. If we can definitely weather the inevitable storm in the beginning of the half, then we have a chance.

Eli needs a long TD drive. NOTE, it must be a TD drive.
Hate this half time show crap...

Get a clue. Steve Smith is not losing this game for us. The biggest play in the first half was the penalty on Pierce. The easiest catch that was dropped was by Burress who has been invisible in this game. I don't think the Giants were relying on Steve Smith to be their dominant receiver in the game. He's the only one getting open.
Who said Tom Petty was a bad halftime show?

Big Boy Football
ScottinMA : 2/3/2008 8:15 pm : link
I heard them talking on ESPN radio earlier this week. They said the Giants play BIG BOY football. I think they did that in the first half. The PAts D was on the field over 19 minutes and Brady was hit many times. That is BIG BOY football. Mauroney 8 rushes 11 yards
Completely agree that the first drive of the second half is crucial.
JW : 2/3/2008 8:15 pm : link
We had the momentum, I hate the long halftime here.

Remember how big the first possessions of the second half were in XXI and XXV?
Both Defenses are playing well
PatersonPlank : 2/3/2008 8:15 pm : link
Neither QB has a lot of time. I think Jimmy was right at the half, look for NE to throw a lot more short stuff to Welker and Faulk.

Long halftime is good for the Giants
Some Fan : 2/3/2008 8:16 pm : link
because we will be on defence first.
If they hold them on the 1st drive of the 2nd half
JoeMP2003 : 2/3/2008 8:16 pm : link
Ill feel 10x better about our chances. This upcoming drive is the tone setter. They cannot go behind 14-3.

Keep pressuring Brady. Sooner or later we'll come up with a big turnover

Offense has to execute, but the defense has to set the tone in the 2nd half here
I'm optimistic
giantsfaninphilly : 2/3/2008 8:16 pm : link
If we turned a couple of plays around in the first half we'd be owning them.

Going in to this game was a replay of the Baltimore disaster.

The boys look good. They won the battle in the trenches in the first half.

I hope they win. I really do.

But they're much better than I thought. Much better.

So far, so good.
I believe the Pats will try to come out with a long clock eating drive
NY-Fan : 2/3/2008 8:17 pm : link
like what we did in XXV. They will dink and dunk and run the ball and try to get points and give their D more rest. We must get them off the field.

Win, lose, or draw this has been a huge season for the Giants. We will just get better next year.
The defense should be very fresh
JoeMP2003 : 2/3/2008 8:19 pm : link
They were only on the field for 20 minutes against the Packers, then they had a bye week, and theyve only been on the field for 10 minutes in the 1st half tonight
After reveiwing the tape (so to speak) the biggest play of the half
SGMen : 2/3/2008 8:19 pm : link
Was Smith not holding onto the ball and allowing the interception cause we were driving and likely to get some points and keep the Pats defense on the field. We have just seven more offensive snaps then the Pats and the key to this game, in my mind, was to be no worse then within 3 points of the Pats heading into the fourth quarter cause I thought our running game would really take over on those Pat LB's.

Therefore, we can't allow the Pats a scoring drive to open the second half. A 3 and out or better is key to keep the pressure of the world on their shoulders and make them think too much as their offense has sputtered a bit these last 8 games. I think Jacobs will eventually get past the DL untouched and with a tired LB corps he might just bust a long run on them. Same for Bradshaw.

Keep the pressure on Brady and hope he throws a duck too!
Second Half relies on Steve Smith manning up.
SteveJobz : 2/3/2008 8:19 pm : link
If Steve Smith mans up well be fine.

If we lose this we know who the blame falls on.
