They signed Alan Faneca, a 31 year old Guard to a 4 year 32 million contract. 23 million guaranteed.
They traded a 3rd and a 5th rounder for Kris Jenkins and then signed him to a 5 year 35 million contract with 20 mill guaranteed. He will be 29 at years start.
Thats alot of years, alot of cash, alot guaranteed for 2 guys who are not young.
They then trade Jonathan Vilma for a conditional 2009 4th rounder. Vilma is 25. Thats basically giving him away.
Vilma BTW made a Pro Bowl more recently then Jenkins.
They are also looking to move 26 year old DeWayne Robertson.
Now I understand the whole "doesnt fit in their scheme" thing but I have to wonder how the "ManGenuis" came to New York with Robertson at 25 and Vilma at 24 and said let me come up with a scheme that neither of these two guys can play in. Considering they spent three HIGH first round picks in total for these two guys.
The Jets seem to me to be becoming older, more expensive and less talented. They also have less draft picks right now.
As for Vilma, I understand they had to get rid of him because he doesn't fit their scheme, but I'm surprised all they got for him was a conditional 4th round pick.
Faneca, they needed. Their O-line has been miserable the past few years, since losing McKenize to us. Also, Ferguson has been a huge dissappointment. However, they did give Faneca too much money and years considering he is 31.
I think generally speaking Tannenbaum has dissappointed as a GM. And Mangini bringing a 3-4 scheme when he has personnel better suited for the 4-3 makes no sense. That franchise is a mess.

Mangold has been the biggest find for that o-line.
The Vilma trade is conditional, meaning the WORST it will be is a 4th and has the potential to be higher based on how he plays. It's a risk, but if we can get a 2nd for him when all is said and done I won't be upset at all.
Lastly, I don't want to give up Robertson. In fact, I think he'd be an excellent end in the 3-4 scheme. He has played there a few times and has actually shone at that spot. That being said, he is due to make 9.8 million dollars this year, and that is a lot of money for a guy who isn't an ideal fit for the NT position. He was drafted to play the 3 technique in a 4-3 alignment.
One place I do agree, though, is that Mangini was dumb to come in and try to force a 3-4 defense on a team with 4-3 talent. However, it's clear he is dead set on making this defense a 3-4.
As for them getting older... look again. David Harris and Darelle Revis (and yes he's better than Aaron Ross, even though you guys will say otherwise) are both under 25 years old and are going to be around for many years. Kerry Rhodes is 25 and will be in a few Pro Bowls before his career is up. In fact, nobody on the team will be over 31 when the season begins.
As for Ferguson... he hasn't been an elite LT yet, but he's entering his 3rd year now. If he doesn't step it up this year then it might be time to admit he was a mistake. That being said, he still has plenty of time to prove he was worth being the 4th overall pick. He did a pretty good job against Osi when the Jets and Giants played this past season. He has a harder time with bigger DE's, but there is time for him to get better. Maybe, and this is just speculation, but maybe having the revolving door named Adrien Clarke next to him was a reason why his play suffered a bit? An offensive line is only as good as all of its parts. If any team should know that, it's you Giant fans. Outside of Snee, who is an ELITE offensive line talent for you guys?
Lastly, let me end with this. You guys just won the Super Bowl, so enjoy it. Stop worrying about what the Jets are doing. You have an excellent team that is going to be good for a few years, barring some major injury. Hopefully the Jets can get there as well and we can all enjoy our teams being a success.
Well, that changes things a bit.

Second, we are still football fans and why cant we wonder and question whats going on with other teams.
Three, spare me the false bravado about Ross vs. Revis. The simple fact is that no one knows after one season which one is better, because its been just one year and there isnt enough info. Do you know how long Jets fans have been running their mouths about this sort of thing? Man I remember Jets fans who claimed Gastineau was better then LT., O' Brien better then Simms, I mean its been an endless run. Even up to some Jets fans chattering about Chad over Eli a few years ago.
Spare me the false bravado about Kerry Rhodes and the Pro Bowls he is going to go to. I mean how many Pro Bowls did you predict Jonathan Vilma to go to? Rhodes looks like a player certainly but lets not count our chickens.
Lastly I wouldnt crow too much about Revis, Harris and Rhodes because you might hire a new coach in a year or two who wants to play the 4-3 and have to trade all of them anyways.
The only time to worry about the Jets is if they decide to start working a meth lab in the basement of Giants Stadium. Otherwise, they pose no risk to anyone but themselves, and even then the major concern would be they'd manage to blow up the place like they blow up everything else.
