Just curious because of the BYU thing. 4 years of college, 2 years on his mission, that should put him around 24-25, right? Can't find an age listed anywhere.
“One mid-round prospect who stood out to me was Bryan Kehl of BYU. He ran a 4.68 and weighed in at 242 pounds. Kehl also put up 26 reps on the bench. He had a very good 3-cone time of 6.88 seconds. Fast? Yes. Strong? Yes. Quick, agile? Yes. Very impressive showing. I find this kid really fascinating. He had three sacks and three interceptions this year. He is a talented playmaker.” - Tommy Lawlor -Philadelphia Eagles
“His 40 time (4.65) was faster than most scouts expected.” -Tony Pauline (Sports Illustrated.)
“BYU’s Bryan Kehl with a 4.64 40yd and an outstanding last 10 yards.” -Chris Horwedel - NFL Draft Blitz
“There’s a lot of interest in Kehl, who seems to have immense physical talents. He was one of the top performers for the linebackers at the 40 and the bench press, and did fairly well in the other timed drills as well. What helped him the most though may have been his instinctive reactions during the linebacker drills. Yes, he went to a Mormon school so he is older (24) but that tells me he won’t be doing anything stupid to jeopardize himself or the team.” -Jack Gonzo
“Bryan Kehl … has flown under the radar but was very quick and explosive today in linebacker drills. He was very light and fluid on his feet, and he keeps good balance while changing directions. “- Wes Bunting - CowboyBlitz.com
Kehl is going through the tests today and I’ll post the number as they come available:
26 reps on the bench (5th overall of linebackers) - Great number for people who were wondering about his strength. One more than Beau Bell, the 250 lbs middle-linebacker out of UNLV.
Official 40 time of 4.68 (9th overall of linebackers) - Good number. He said he would run a 4.6 and he did. His unofficial time was 4.64 both times. He looked very fluid in this and in the drills. The commentators were very impressed by him. Link - ( New Window )
Chet (UT): I hear some people say that they could drop you back as a stong safety. Do you think that you could make that position change and still be effective?
Bryan Kehl: I would play anywhere they asked me to and do my best. However, my strong point would be OLB. A couple of years ago, maybe safety would have been possible, but now I weight 240. Link - ( New Window )
milking value out of every pick and really improving the roster. Another great pick, and specials will also benefit. Sick AA and he's still got upside.
High intelligence, high in character, and extremely fast. This guy loves football and makes the game roster as, at least, a special teams player. This guy has major upside and again is a superbowl player, not necessarily a probowl player. So far 3 out of first 4 are high in character intelligence, and speed. The 4th Manningham has maturity problems and at the same time is a real competitor. Surround Manningham with Reeses' guys and we may be getting a much better receiver than most expect.
He has a long poductive career ahead of him. Being 24 is a non-issue. LB's don't play 12 years anyway. Those that think this is a problem are totally off base imo....just as they were with Aaron Ross last year.
On a side note it was incredible how Mayock and crew just undressed Jamie Dukes when he tried to criticize the Patriots draft LOL..he was stuttering and stammering like the dumb POS he really is hahahaha
Sounds like he'll be a MONSTER on special teams...nose for the ball, just loves to play, that quote about being upset they canceled two-a-days is funny, means he LOVES to play...
manningham has the same concerns that bradshaw had last year Â
Definitely worth the trade up, provides Wilkinson with competition for the starting spot at weakside linebacker and will contribute immediately as a special teams demon. Athletic and fast with a great attitude and character.
and with Manningham sure to stick at WR, don't be surprised if our Super Bowl Hero, David Tyree, becomes a surprise summer cut. David's knee surgery rehab being another fly in that ointment.
Wonder if David's surgery has pushed the front office to seek out obvious special teamers?
Of note:
Bryan Kehl OLB BYU
Kehl didn't get much attention outside of the Mountain West Conference, but at 6-feet-2, 242 pounds, he is one of the draft's most versatile linebackers. Running in the mid 4.5s, Kehl was also impressive in the vertical jump (35 inches), short shuttle (4.18 seconds) and three-cone drill (6.54 seconds). Eighteen NFL clubs were present at his workout, including linebacker coaches from Carolina, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and St. Louis.
I know the Giants were there and according to Brandt "Giants LB coach Bill Sheridan has been out to see many of the top LB prospects around the country." I wonder if he was there? I haven't seen this kid play, seems like Rang is high on him and thats a good 3 cone. Anyone have an opinion? Link - ( New Window )
If these kids have to do 4 years of school and two years of mission, when do these kids actually play? Do they do the mission first and then play 4 years of football? Do they play first and then do the mission? What years did this guy play?
that as a 3rd or 4th round pick, Kehl will be the steal of the draft. I don't know how many of you remember my linebacker charts but I took athleticism and production and tried to combine them. Kehl was #1, above everyone...Connor, Rivers, Mayo, etc. This guy has INSANE athletic ability, like truly insane, productivity is excellent, and character is definitely Giant-like. I'm going to have to re-post my charts.
Kenny Philps - #38
Terrel Thomas - #79
Mario Manningham - #58
Bryan Kehl - #54
That means we reached for Thomas, he is third round talent, Manningham and kehl were second round talents, Philips, is high second, BUT, there is no way he is there in the secong where we picked, and if we moved down, its a chance to lose your top ranked free safety at a huge need position. So i am alright with this draft, in fact, its a very good draft. If Terrel Thoams stays healthy, it will be an excellent draft.
I thought the same thing. Jerry Reese and his staff: kudos! Wow, what prep, what efficiency, what a great organization. I love the way this guy drafts. Mel: blah, blah, blah, wide receiver! Mel, stfu, and get a damn haircut. How does Mel Kiper talk in real life? dadadadadadadadada`dut dytm dut dit dit dadada, blah, blah, blah. No, you're wrong. I'm always right.
Mindless thanks for your chart once more, great work Â
Kehl was certainly the guy I wanted. I hope it works out for him even though I am a homer. I firmly believe between Wilkinson, Pierce, DeOssie, and the rest, Kehl is the piece that will solidify our LBs for years to come. I believe it will be a position of strength with good depth and special teams talent.
That is absolutely monster. The 3-cone time is the best of ANY linebackers, and only Stanford Keglar had a better shuttle time.
Then for productivity in 2007:
91 Tackles
52 Solo 11.5 TFL
3.5 Sacks
4 Passes Defended
3 Interceptions (1 for TD)
1 Forced Fumble
And I'll dig up his highlights, which I'm sure many of you have already looked at. The guy moves like a gazelle at 242 lbs! He is EXTREMELY athletic. Gerris Wilkinson has NOTHING on this guy, actually none of our linebackers do, when we talk potential. He has the tools to be a pro-bowler. His coverage (which we need desperately) is excellent. So much of a strength that it has been discussed that he could move to Safety.
Needless to say I went absolutely apeshit when we picked him. Awesome pick.
I'm going to have an orgasm. This organization is incredible. Dallas is lost, Washington? You know about Dan Snyder and his bad kharma, Philly is having a good draft, but they can't beat Big Blue, Bring on the AFC again in the SB! BTW, can you believe the meddling Jerry Jones? Like Paul said, we have 4000 probowlers. Why do we lose to the giants?

You know how Reese likes 'em--AARP card and all.

His age is a second-contract concern (which means that it shouldn't influence the decision over whether to pick him in round 4 at all).
IMO he would have been an upgrade over torber. Could be the steal of the draft

Here are his highlights. NUTS. He really jumps out at you watching this!

BBI is going way too slow for me to do some digging on that. If someone can answer here i will appreciate it and check back later
This pick is great - can't wait to see him for the
first time in kickoff coverage chase somebody down....
Then we'll start debating... how do we get him on the
field?????
OK- if we can a big lineman like Nicks, I'm driving from San Francisco to East Rutherford and bowing to Jerry Reese.
