There really is nothing to complain about through 4 rounds. Even if you don't love every player or had others in mind, the guys they got in the spots they took them are all very good. It's obviously too early to judge, but the early indications are that Reese and his staff really know how to draft.
"Kehl is just a flat-out player. He is one of those guys who is always around the football and is a ball hog and makes a lot of plays," BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said. "I have talked to some people out there and they tell me one thing about this guy, he is not only an athlete but he has got a mind that is absolutely unreal and football is important to him."
"Recruited by Utah, Oregon, Utah State, Harvard, Yale, Penn and Idaho State, Kehl enrolled at Brigham Young in 2002. He posted 14 tackles (6 solos) in 11 games as a reserve right outside linebacker before embarking on a two-year church mission to Toronto."
"When he returned to the gridiron in 2005, he competed in 11 games as the key backup to Justin Lvettgrodt at right outside linebacker. He collected 30 tackles (15 solos) with a stop for a loss, as he also recovered and caused a fumble. He also blocked a punt that he recovered for an 11-yard advancement."

obviously very smart, obviously has all the athletic talent you can ask for, and well, I don't know, I'm just drooling over this pick, I think he's gonna be huge for us at some point.
I'm really surprised the Thomas pick got as much heat as it did. I watched a lot of USC games and he's a very good player. If he stays healthy, he'll be a big time contributor.
"After interviewing and meeting with a few teams at the combine in Indianapolis, New York was in my top-five," Kehl said. "I could see myself as a New York Giant. I'm really excited. They're the SuperBowl Champions. It doesn't get any better than that."
Kehl, a 6-foot-3, 242-pound native of Salt Lake City, will leave Utah for the East Rutherford, N.J., early in May for the Giants' mini camp which begins May 8. According to NFLDraftScout.com, the Giants have an immediate need at linebacker after losing both of their starting outside linebackers to free agency. Kehl was the first of only two linebackers selected by the Giants. New York had only seven picks in this year's draft, using two of those seven selection to draft linebackers. Link - ( New Window )
I remember at the beginning of the day, you explicitly stated that Kehl is the most likely LB target. You said he was a team captain, and some other stuff I can't remember. You know Jerry Reese. Reese even traded up for this guy. Take a bow, dude.
i have to admit i was pretty tunnel-visioned on connor prior to some other bbier's suggestion that i look deeper (ChicagoMarty for one). i'm no draft expert, but i've been desperately waiting for a LB upgrade, so i focused on them and only them.
I went to BYU and served a mission as well. One of the guys I served with during my mission was a football player at BYU so hopefully I can shed some light on one of the questions that was asked in this thread.
Someone asked about Kehl and his 2 years missionary experience and 4 years at BYU, when does he play football. Typically guys go on their mission when they are 19 years old. Kehl probably went to BYU for 1 year and then served his mission. For the most part it is difficult to stay in top physical shape as a missionary, he probably did not have access to the gym like he did as a football player. He serves the two years, comes home, gets back to BYU and on the field. I wouldn't be surprised if he is already married as well since we Mormons / Latter Day Saints have a tendency to get married young.
The Giants have lost two LBs who started in the Super Bowl, Mitchell and Torbor. You may consider Torbor a backup, but he started a good part of the season as well as the playoffs.
True, but he did start and we swept our way through the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Even though he was a "backup", he was pressed int starting duty nd did not hurt us in our incredible run. He started for the Giants in past yewars, and he started for us when wee needed him last year.

On one hand, we have Manningham. Then we get this kid, who had a problem with a coach using profanity.
Pretty funny. Hope he works out. Seems like a really sharp kid.

Love the Reese & Ross!
He's doing wonferfully
this kid can be a player....he can really fly!

giants were set to take kehl with their 3rd rd pick but super mario fell
If it wasn't for him and his LB threads, I'm fairly confident their would have been lots of "WTF??" posts about kehl today.
How do you pronounce Kehl?
I'm as hard core a fan as most people around here, but I don't remember David Futrell at all.
