What State should have an NFL team that doesn't have one?

BigBlueDownTheShore : 7/10/2008 10:01 am
So after reading the post about the Jags maybe moving to LA it got me thinking about what states don't have an NFL team. I always felt like Alabama is a great football state. They have great college football programs, but that doesn't mean that a team located in their state would fail. I also understand that the market there probably isn't as big as in LA, but I really feel if they had a team to root for it would be successful, and as stated before the California market is already saturated with fans with deep roots to the Raiders, San Diego, and the Niners. What state do you think deserves an NFL team?

or Nebraska. They've both had pro teams for so long, it's about time they get a legal one.
You've got to look at the cities.

Most of the States mentioned, while terrific football States, just don't have a big enough city to support an NFL franchise.

My guess offhand as to which city is the biggest that doesn't have a franchise, I'd have to say "Toronto." Ontario deserves a team. So what if it's a Province?

Other States that would qualify, off the top of my head -- other States that don't have a team, but have a Metropolitan area or series of Metropolitans areas big enough -- would be Virginia, Oregon, Iowa, Alabama, and Connecticut.

But the ultimate state on this list is our very own New Jersey. Until I see an "NJ" on the Giants' or Jets' helmets, I'm not seeing a New Jersey team. Of course, as big as New Jersey is, and as deserving of a franchise; just the fact that it's crammed between the Giants, Jets, Eagles, Ravens, Bills, Redskins, and Patriots would make it tough to give itself the space an NFL franchise would need. You know what though? New Jersey is tough. It could handle a franchise piece of cake. Maybe the Jets should move back to NY, the Giants should stay where they are, and they DO put that "NJ" on the helmet. I wouldn't mind. Or if the Giants and Jets both go back to NY, then maybe the New Jersey Jaguars just might have a ring to it!
Scratch Oregon.

Too small. Vegas could pull off an NFL team. But it would ruin the NFL.
What about New Mexico?

It's small, but growing. And the word "Albuquerque" just absolutely has to have more of a role in the American lexicon. Having an NFL team would do it. The Albuquerque Dragons.
Agree with Phil

Their fans show up. Move the Dolphins, they cannot get people for playoff games.

70% are from NJ even when they played at Yankee stadium 53% of season ticket holders were not from NY. Thats why Wellington Mara wanted to go to NJ and people could park and tailgate without having to take their lives in their hands in the freakin Bronz
