Foxsports-Giants/Saints reach a deal for Shockey?

I think the team is now weaker at TE. They'll miss a lot things he does and does well.


That said, this is good value for a good player and it seems like something had to give if the relationship between him and the Giants was as fractured as it appeared to be.

Wikipedia already lists him as a Saint. I'm glad my boy Drew Brees has a new target.

Shockey or not. They can keep Bush, Brees and whoever - I'll take this NYG offense at any position anyday.

was looking very good in camp last year before he got hurt. He's a real wild card in the situation. He is more like a combination of Boss and Matthews. He is a solid blocker and pass catcher.

I'm really not all that upset about this. Yeah I've always thought Shockey makes the team better but I have no doubt we'll be fine.

Shockey is not the same player he was 7 years ago. Let's see what happens when he starts grousing about Colsten and Bush getting the catches or he gets hurt again or he starts dropping passes like he did this year. Shockey is a nice player but let's stop pretending he's another Mike Ditka. He's probably the 3rd best tight end in our own division.

Who failed to pull the trigger? Assuming the picks from the Saints are this year, it appears to be a better offer than what the Redskins gave (unless you assume that the Saints finish much higher than the Skins).

I've predicted it for quite some time both on and off BBI. This makes perfect sense with the direction that Coughlin/Reese have taken over the past several years. The last of the malcontents is gone! Now let's see what kind of additional gold Reese can mine in next year's draft with two more picks.

my guess is that the Giants wanted Taylor to renegotiate his contract before agreeing to a trade. The Redskins did not have the stipulation. The Dolphins wanted multiple picks (centered around a 2nd rounder) and Taylor the hell off the team. The Redskins were happy to oblige, without asking for time to renegotiate a new contract, at least not as a precursor to a deal.

He'll be on the DL when we play the Saints in the playoffs. He hasn't played 16 games yet in his career.

I've seen very few players, since Jim Brown that played with the fire that Shockey played with.

I feel sad for him, that he couldn't get over the "hurt" he felt the team inflicted on him, and sad for for the team, that we lost a very good player.

The Giants won last year, when they lost him to injury, not because he was gone, but because they made the necessary adjustments.

When Tiki left, it took four to replace him; maybe Boss, Matthews, Darcy can replace him, I don't know.....

What I do know - is that the rest of the NFL East is celebrating.

Something else I know - that target on our backs (that all Superbowl defending champions wear), just got a little bigger and easier to hit.

Shockey was a good player, who gave it all on the field, and did everything asked of him well. Not the greatest ever, not the worst, but now that he's gone, he has to be replaced. Likely we will have to do it with 2 1 dimensional players instead of one very well rounded one. And it's possible each of those replacements isn't as good as Shockey was at either half of his job.

they need to abandon the pretence and just say that Kiwi is going back to DE and will share snaps with Tuck & Osi.

Sad part is, I was a big Shockey fan at first. But is antics got old the last couple of seasons. He had great fan good will, but like Farve, pissed it away.

Based on the compensation, Shockey is worth more than Jason Taylor. That's contrary to what most people on this board were saying.

I'm experiencing some cognitive dissonance here. Keeping Kiwi at SAM and trying to trade for Taylor seem to be contradictory. Unless they think Kiwi is going to be a stud LB. I think Matt in SGS is one of the board's most valuable posters but I'm not sure I believe this idea.

ESPN uses this as another reason the Giants will only win 2 games this year...even though they've spent the last half year saying the Giants are better without Shockey.
