Please don't kill me..if discussed already..I'll delete.
Jeremy Shockey has finally gotten his wish.
The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source.
The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.
The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks. That said, this is good value for a good player and it seems like something had to give if the relationship between him and the Giants was as fractured as it appeared to be.
I'm really not all that upset about this. Yeah I've always thought Shockey makes the team better but I have no doubt we'll be fine.
I hate this trade
Mike, yep, we don't make this deal unless they think Boss is for real.
Shockey is not the same player he was 7 years ago. Let's see what happens when he starts grousing about Colsten and Bush getting the catches or he gets hurt again or he starts dropping passes like he did this year. Shockey is a nice player but let's stop pretending he's another Mike Ditka. He's probably the 3rd best tight end in our own division.
Meh....
I was hoping the animosity could be worked out, but apparently the differences were irreconcilable.
With a Reese/Coughlin administration the animals will never run the circus.
I feel sad for him, that he couldn't get over the "hurt" he felt the team inflicted on him, and sad for for the team, that we lost a very good player.
The Giants won last year, when they lost him to injury, not because he was gone, but because they made the necessary adjustments.
When Tiki left, it took four to replace him; maybe Boss, Matthews, Darcy can replace him, I don't know.....
What I do know - is that the rest of the NFL East is celebrating.
Something else I know - that target on our backs (that all Superbowl defending champions wear), just got a little bigger and easier to hit.
Pretty good value coming back.
Sad part is, I was a big Shockey fan at first. But is antics got old the last couple of seasons. He had great fan good will, but like Farve, pissed it away.
We proved HE doesn't make a difference on our TEAM.
See ya
Baby Bavaro will be fine.
So long Shock, don't let the door hit you in the ass...
I'm sure the deal is pending a physical by Shockey. They must believe he'll pass it?
Until I purchased an Eli jersey this year, I've only owned two Giants jerseys my entire life.
Simms and Shockey.
I think in 2010, I'll be chuckling the same way when I see a guy walk in with a Shockey one....
I'm experiencing some cognitive dissonance here. Keeping Kiwi at SAM and trying to trade for Taylor seem to be contradictory. Unless they think Kiwi is going to be a stud LB. I think Matt in SGS is one of the board's most valuable posters but I'm not sure I believe this idea.
Well we don't have Shockey anymore. Okay ESPN, put us at the top of your power rankings.
that's all i'll say
That one catch.
One.
Catch.
