Jeremy Shockey has finally gotten his wish.
The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source.
The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.
The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks. As much as I dislike Shockey's personality, I WILL miss his blocking - I expect the rushing attack to suffer.
#2 pick + $4mm > Shockey
I love this. We won the SB w/o him late in the year. We can do this. I cannot believe we still got this deal.
What next, Eli traded to the Bears for a 3rd and 4th?
The only negative is in run blocking where Shockey excelled. Boss is nowhere near ready for that load so Matthews will be the every down TE. Our TE play is not as important as Dallas with Witten or KC with Gonzales.
They are very pumped up. And NO is playing the Falcons here this year so maybe we'll go to the game. Not like the Falcons sell out LOL!
Getting a 2 and 5 is a good deal. I wish him nothing but the best. and we did win more without him.
That's gonna feel weird...
meet the new boss (apologies to the who fans out there).
Thats pretty good
(;
My only complaint is that the Saints will probably be better this year and those draft picks may not be as good as they could have been if we took the deal in April.
