Skins fans making a mockery of Pro Bowl voting
j_rud : 11/18/2008 2:31 pm
This is mentioned in the other thread but it deserves the attention. The Pro Bowl has steadily lost its meaning, IMO, but this year its being taken to new heights. With Dan Snyder actually campaigning to put Redskins in the Pro Bowl, this is what we currently have...

Jason Campebell (9th overall, 3rd NFC QB)
Clinton Portis (1st)
Santana Moss (1st)
Chris Samuels (1st)
Stephon Heyer (5th)
Cornelius Griffin (1st)
Kedrick Gholston (2nd)
Jason Taylor (3rd)
Rocky McIntosh (5th)
London Fletcher (1st)
Marcus Washington(4th)
Sean Springs (1st)
Carlos Rogers (2nd)
Chris Horton (1st)
LaRon Landry (1st)
Shawn Suisham (1st)
Ryan Plackemeier (1st)

Snyder turned this thing into a complete joke...
For those who didnt notice,
j_rud : 11/18/2008 2:32 pm
the NFC pro bowl secondary will be completely comprised of the Redskins starting secondary. It will also feature their starting DTs.
Good,
Raultney : 11/18/2008 2:33 pm
we know what happens to teams with a load of players in the pro bowl.
...
Eric from BBI : 11/18/2008 2:33 pm
So what?

It will only inflate their cost when it comes time to renegotiate.

The Pro Bowl makes me nervous. A serious injury there jeopardizes a player's ensuing season.
Jason Taylor??
Kyle in NY : 11/18/2008 2:34 pm
what a joke. The guy hasn't made a play all year. He's just a big name. These games won't have any validity until they get fan voting out of it.
And Laron Landry gets trucked by Jacobs again
YAJ2112 : 11/18/2008 2:34 pm
But he's going to the Pro Bowl!
Fan votes
Tom 25 : 11/18/2008 2:34 pm
Fan votes only count for like 30% right? Thank God for that this year, if that's what that clown is doing in Washington. "Yay, our entire roster made the Pro Bowl but we couldn't win a game in the playoffs" - hoping thats what happens
Eric
j_rud : 11/18/2008 2:35 pm
Im not campaigning to have Giants players in there instead of the 'Skins, but it really rubs me the wrong way. I dont even know why. Its a freakin' joke and only makes me absolutely despise Danny Boy more than ever. 7 starters on the defense will be Redskins. Thats a joke.
Tahnks god the game doesn't mean anything
kmed : 11/18/2008 2:35 pm
because the NFC is going to get destroyed.
Fan Votes are only a portion of how a player gets voted in
shockey07458 : 11/18/2008 2:35 pm
It is more player and coaches voting throughout the league.
Jason Taylor has 12 tackles at DE
j_rud : 11/18/2008 2:36 pm
and is 3rd in voting for NFC outside LBer. C'mon, thats insane!
You don't
dorgan : 11/18/2008 2:36 pm
think the Dallas fans made a fucking mockery of it last year?

Piss on the pro bowl. They ruined all chances of it ever meaning anything when the let the fans vote.
I heard that Cowboys team
80offensive : 11/18/2008 2:37 pm
had a lot of pro bowlers last year, but I think the SB champs only had 1.
doesn't fan...
Eric from BBI : 11/18/2008 2:37 pm
voting count for 2/3 of the vote?
Is there a link
Craig Loves NY : 11/18/2008 2:38 pm
with more than just the Redskins returns on votes?

Thanks
fans should not...
Italianju : 11/18/2008 2:38 pm
be allowed to vote on the pro bowl or any other all star game in sports. Its a very stupid way to elect who gets to go. The only people who should vote on this is coaches, gms, players, and maybe some media people. Fans are just dumb when it comes to voting.
oh it's 2/3?
Tom 25 : 11/18/2008 2:39 pm
I've got it backwards than. Well that sucks...might as well just paint the Redskins logo in one of the endzones. Hmm Redskins vs AFC Allstars...wonder who wins that one
my bad....
Eric from BBI : 11/18/2008 2:40 pm
it is 1/3
I thought fan vote was 1/3 or 1/2
80offensive : 11/18/2008 2:40 pm
either way, it is significant. Pro bowl has been a mockery for years. It's based most off reputation, so guys get in long after their play has declined. It's a free Hawaii trip for players who have done the best at being popular.
No, I'm pretty sure it's 1/3
gainesvillegiant : 11/18/2008 2:41 pm
fans, 1/3 player, and 1/3 coaches.
We are no different
Go Terps : 11/18/2008 2:43 pm

Fans should have no say
JoeMP2003 : 11/18/2008 2:44 pm
in stuff like this
vote should be for one offensive and defensive player each conference
bois : 11/18/2008 2:45 pm
then let them act as captains picking teams schoolyard style. Far more interesting than the current system IMO.
the funny...
Eric from BBI : 11/18/2008 2:45 pm
thing is I think the Skins might not make the playoffs.
To me the only legit all star berth in sports
JoeMP2003 : 11/18/2008 2:46 pm
comes when you are an NBA reserve. The 7 bench players are selected by only the leagues coaches. The 5 starts are voted in by the fans though and in past years theres been some ridiculous selections (Penny and Grant Hill a bunch of years where they played like 2 games) but still over half the roster is legit

Baseball is a joke, Fans completely vote in the starters, the bench players i believe are selected by only 1 manager, the defending league champ manager, and he can inflate his team with his own guys. They also have this silly rule which im not sure is written or unwritten about every team needing to be represented
We're no different?
j_rud : 11/18/2008 2:47 pm
Does a single Giant lead voting at their respective position? We lead the league in rushing and its quite possible that none of our offensive lineman or starting RB are honored. Yes, Plax, Michael Johnson, Eli and others are too high, but its not comparable to what Danny Boy is doing.
I would rather play the FIRST Sunday in February,
johnnyb : 11/18/2008 2:50 pm
not the second.
j_rud
Go Terps : 11/18/2008 2:52 pm
Whether or not the Giants players are too high is irrelevant. What is relevant is that there is constant campaigning on this site and I'm sure every other Giants site to vote for our guys for the Pro Bowl, Player of the Week, Air and Ground, and whatever other BS awards are out there.

To me there is only one of these things that's worth anything...the All-Pro Team. All positions are considered and it's voted upon by people that are actually around the game 24/7. The rest is pretty much meaningless.
........
TommytheElephant : 11/18/2008 3:07 pm
Wait till the Cowboys get wind of this..
BBurns : 11/18/2008 3:42 pm
Ha
The Pro Bowl
Mayo : 11/18/2008 3:43 pm
just like the All-Star game in baseball has simply turned into a popularity contest. Coaches and players should only be able to vote for players on other teams. A fan's vote should have ZERO credibility. Being selected by your peers is the ONLY true way to make the Pro Bowl.
Check out these results
nyjuggernaut : 11/18/2008 3:44 pm
it makes me wonder if perhaps Snyder has paid people to sit at a computer all day and just continue voting the Skins in. Look how much of a lead some of these players have.

1. Clinton Portis (458,082)
2. Adrian Peterson (303,151

1. Mike Sellers (220,662)
2. Madison Hedgecock (90,818)

1. Pete Kendall (175,617)
2. Randy Thomas (172,845)
3. Chris Snee (137,481

1. Chris Samuels (198,906)
2. Flozell Adams (101,178)

1. Chris Horton (168,271)

1. LaRon Landry (188,238)
2. Brian Dawkins (82,622)

2 Things
HopeJ : 11/18/2008 4:07 pm
1. did you vote?

2. do we really care if there are any Giants on Hawaii if they end up going to Tampa?
these things are all a joke
lalalalala : 11/18/2008 4:16 pm

I think the early returns on the NHL all-star game is that the Sharks will be starting the game against the Habs.
The Redskins
Matt in SGS : 11/18/2008 4:21 pm
should put up banners for all the off-season championships they've won, to go with their championships in Hawaii. The stuff from September through January? Not so much.
People who actually think about their votes

will tend to wait until the last possible moment, so that they will have the maximum amount of information possible to make their decisions.
I didn't think it was possible for the NFL to make the ...
Boy Cord : 11/18/2008 4:46 pm
... Pro Bowl a bigger joke, but they did it!! The only award that matters is the All NFL team.
If I never see another
yankfan : 11/18/2008 6:42 pm
Giant in the Pro Bowl, it'll be too soon.

Dog and pony show that only adds $$$$$ to the NFL coffers. Not worth the potential risk to a career IMO.

Wasn't it Robert Edwards who nearly lost a leg out there?
As I read these stats on votes I laugh
SGMen : 11/18/2008 6:53 pm
Flozell? He has been a human turnstisle this year at LT!

Giants that are worthy include Snee, O'Hara, Hedgecock, Kiwanuka, Tuck, Robbins, Pierce, Webster and maybe Feagles.
I like the idea
DomerGiant2008 : 11/18/2008 7:01 pm
of having the probowl the week before the superbowl and playing it at the superbowl site
Haha,
Paul in Brooklyn : 11/18/2008 7:14 pm
that's awesome. Rocky McIntosh has be to the most overrated LB ever. The guy is hot garbage.
Good
tribs : 11/18/2008 8:14 pm
I always vote for division rival players, bumps up the cap number on their good players so they can't keep them all.

I voted all Cowboys last year. If the Redskins want to kill their payroll so be it. I'd rather brag about the ring.

PRO BOWL = Probably Really Overrated But Owed Wagonloads of Loot (ok i know that was weak)
go terps
GMenLTS : 11/18/2008 8:17 pm
nails it on both pro bowl threads
For me I could care less
JOrthman : 11/18/2008 8:26 pm
However, until the HOF voters stop using it as a bench mark I root for our guys to go to the Pro Bowl.
