Bob Papa on Plaxico's release

joepa : 4/3/2009 3:50 pm
Just now on the NFL Network.

This release had nothing to do with Plaxico's legal situation. The Giants all along have been saying they would be willing to take Plaxico back if he would make some concessions and do what they asked. They were not seeing the attitude changes they were hoping for.

They were also offended that his agent was kind of shopping Plaxico around. The feeling was, "Hey we were willing to stand by this player and give him another chance, and now your making noises that he might want to play elsewhere.

Also Papa insinuated that they were not please with the tone of the Plaxico camp in regard to the on going discussions in regard to the bonus money they had taken from him.
I am hoping he does do some jail time so that the Giants

can get most of the bonus money back.

Plaxico was selfish, now it's time for the Giants to be
WTF? How can they drop him like this three weeks before the draft
BoldRuler : 4/3/2009 3:53 pm : link
and completely lose any leverage they might have had unless something is in the works? I agree with what has been previously said. This means one of two things, either a deal is in the works for Edwards or we are prepared to not trade for a WR and will just run the draft as normal.
Plax

is too stubborn and past the point of being able to change his ways. No single player is above the team.
not sure if i buy it
willismcshockey : 4/3/2009 3:54 pm : link
i'm sure it's part of the reason, but maybe the giants are also saving face here knowing Plax's case isn't going to go over so well in court.
no leverage is lost
gmenrule1986 : 4/3/2009 3:55 pm : link
everyone knows he's not playing football this year

I would like to think that Reese and Co know what they are doing and the release was done at the best possible time. I doubt the timing is random or is going to sabotage anything.

Did they ask him about the Giants and the Braylon/Boldin situation?
Plaxico
joepa : 4/3/2009 3:57 pm : link
is incapable of humbling himself or submitting to authority, even when he is wrong and in a position where he should be grateful that the Giants were willing to hand in there with him. To continue to have a me first attitude, a "I do what the f--k I want attitude" is unbelievable.

yes. He said it is a possibility. But he also indicated the Giants might wait as long as the second round to go after a receiver. He said the Giants won't overreact or over reach here. He also indicated that they are confident in the receivers they have not.

Rich Eisen said, "but everyone could see how much the Giants missed Plaxico at the end of the year" Papa said, they would make adjustments, siting the Patriots of a few years back who won a Super Bowl without a big time receiver.
agree with joepa

UNLESS WITH GET BRAYLON!
I am glad he is gone

If he was running around telling everyone he was going to play
jcn56 : 4/3/2009 4:03 pm : link
elsewhere we had no leverage to begin with.
.......
sal_the_stockbroker : 4/3/2009 4:20 pm : link
Bob always brings up the Pats from a few years ago not having a "#1 WR" . To me that makes no sense, the QB was Tom Brady. No way Eli is at the level of Tom Brady.
how bout
djm : 4/3/2009 4:26 pm : link
lettings things play out before crying about no WR's on the roster?
Some people just never get "it"

I have freind who works in Las Vegas. She got off work last month at 3 am. She went to a club on the strip and who is there? Plaxico Burress. He stayed until 6 am.

Now I'm not saying that the guy can never go out again but don't you think that with what's going on he could stay out of clubs for a couple of months.

All it takes is some other guy at the club to shoot a gun or something and Plax would be the headline of the story.

has been well thought out and planned by management and TC. People should give them credit for knowing whats best for the team. Sounds like his attitude has not changed and he may well want to be released like Shockey. He was taking plays off, refusing to practice and conform to team rules, ever since he came here. Enough is enough. Now we can adjust to a new offense, using who we have and who we get in the draft or by trade. Without the media circus surrounding Burress. IMO.
'not seeing the attitude change'
sphinx : 4/3/2009 4:38 pm : link
We all know about the traffic four tickets he picked up on 3/1. He picked up another one on 3/18.

These are small potatoes and wouldn't void probation ... but it's an indication that, as Steve Smith said, "Plax being Plax" was not going to change. Even without jail Plax was certainly going to get probation. It would seem to be just a matter of time during the season that he would be gone. I assume they thought it is time to cut bait.
well hopefully
