I don't disagree that Edwards is a #1 WR. But he also led the league in dropped passes and has DEMANDED a trade. The Browns are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Having said that, I love Edwards' game

Braylon is a legit #1. we can't get anyone similar to him at 29, and thus, giving our #1 up to get him makes sense. the deal is bolstered by a #5 that is almost meaningless to us considering the number of picks we have.

This is a fair trade for both teams, I don't think it's a steal for any team.

This rumor really doesn't seem to make sense. Why would a Philadelphia station be reporting this before any sources in NY. Might be that there are talks going on, maybe a misdirection by a team, but hard to believe this one.
If espn 950 had it how would espn 1050 not have the story? Or just espn for that matter? WFAN has nothing about it. I am not going to get my hopes up on this.

but look at his YPC. Browns have been consistently looking for him on deep intermediate routes, which is perfect for us, because he'd be stretching the field. Also, the Browns experienced a significant dropoff in their running attack. This is great if true.

Not exactly a steal, about what I thought he would command, although I was hoping the Giants could somehow keep the 1st if they made the deal.
No need to "force" a pick for a WR, and take the $$$ that would have gone to a 1st rounder to help pay for Edwards..

keep in mind that 2010 is an uncapped year at this moment. very possible that Reese and co. could structure Braylon's contract so that there's a bigger hit in 2010 than there would be normally, which would reduce the cap hit for any future years when/if the cap returns.
again, trust in the reese that he doesn't pull the trigger without an in-depth appreciation for the cap ramifications.
bottom line, if you want to replace what plax brought to the table, you gotta pay somebody to do it. none of the rookies in this class can touch plax or braylon, and they won't be able to touch them for at least 2 years.

i've been very skeptical of the braylon rumours in the past, but when it gets to this point, and news stations are reporting that they've heard the deal is done, specifying what the deal entails and even saying what time the news conference will be to announce the deal, it's not even smoke anymore. it's fire, baby. 7:57 Update - I've done as much digging as I can -- which included e-mails to every beat writer I know -- and don't really have an update. The fact that I haven't gotten a single reply from any beat writer (they are usually quick) could mean something ...
but then again, it could mean nothing. They all have their own lives obviously, so they could just be busy. But to play Devil's Advocate, it seems somewhat odd to get no reply whatsoever. Perhaps they are all writing their own articles to confirm (or deny) this ESPN 950 report

What I was told that could be the case here, is the Browns people might have leaked this to Philly sources in order to get them to enter the bidding and up the price on the Giants. And it was then picked up by someone with contacts in Philly and the report was then put out. I was told the same thing as I had said a few days ago, if something happens, it'll probably be closer to the draft. My guess is that eventually it does happen.
