Giants will beat Saints by at least 2TD's

Fish : 10/12/2009 5:06 pm
I am very confident in the Giants right now, as we all should be.
Webster will shut down Colston. The D will stop their running game. Reggie and Shockey may beat our LB's without Boley playing. As for the rest of their receivers, moore, henderson or meachem. I think dock, johnson, TT can hang with them all. CC brown should be ready as well. Outside of Sharper I do not know much about the saints D. Any good? Can they stop our offense?
Early prediction: Giants 41- Saints 24.
Wow two TD's huh?
tyleraimee : 10/12/2009 5:08 pm : link
BTW the linebacker coverage is huge. Both Shockey and Bush will convert third downs keeping drives alive
So you don't know much about their D
seeker716 : 10/12/2009 5:08 pm : link
but predict we put up 41, makes sense

is going to be jacked. They'll come out swinging and flinging. We just need to hang in there and put together some long drives.

Eli has always played very well, in domed stadiums.
you don't know nothing about the Saints

but you want to assure us we will win by two td's. Great time to be a fan.
exactly

If I knew they were a top D then I would not go for the 40+.

This is the game where we will find out about
Sneakers O'toole : 10/12/2009 5:10 pm : link
CC Brown and Rouse (we already know what we got in Johnson now). Our safteys have not yet really been tested this year, this is the game that will test them.
yup
Fish : 10/12/2009 5:14 pm : link
That's why I mentioned CC. We will find out what he has got this week as he will be tested.
The Saints D has yet to yield many points
Frank from CA : 10/12/2009 5:17 pm : link
Just like the Giants. Add to that Sharper (Eli's kryptonite) is waiting back there. Look at the defensive stats for both teams and there is a lot of similarity. I don't see either offense lighting it up. This will be a classic NFL game with a premium on scoring: 23-20 type score and plenty of bend don't break. I hope Feagles eats his wheaties. Both offenses are balanced with strong rushing numbers headed up by QBs performing at elite levels of efficiency and production.

Its going to be a great game. Thanksgiving day is shaping up to be a great contest as well.
Don't turn the ball over
mattnyg05 : 10/12/2009 5:18 pm : link
and you win easily. Saints defense still gives up a lot of yards (not points, which is misleading) and they rely on the turnover.

beatrixkiddo : 10/12/2009 5:27 pm : link
but by a much closer margin, and a much lower scoring game. The factors in us winning are going to be time possession and not turning the ball over.If we can do that than I think we will win, We have to score TD's and not field goals and keep the Defense fresh, I fear that if they are out there to long Bree's will pick us apart.

My fear is our LBs in coverage...
GiantFanInTX : 10/12/2009 5:44 pm : link
as someone pointed out above. Without Boley we will have a nightmare day trying to cover Bush. Shockey I'm not quite as worried about. It's the killer 3rd down conversions that are worrying me. The key, as always, is to make Brees uncomfortable. Time for our line to step it up this week.
The Saints have weaknesses.
PEEJ : 10/12/2009 5:45 pm : link
jets D played them very tough. I'm sure the Giants learned something. Giants OL needs to step up.
Since I already know the Giants will win by a comfortable margin,
81_Great_Dane : 10/12/2009 5:48 pm : link
I guess I can focus on the remaining huge question: Should I make waffles that morning for my wife and daughter, or stick with bacon and eggs? Game time is 10 a.m. here, and if they sleep in, I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen while the Giants are winning by at least 2 TDs.
How Many Times Will We Hear About The Saints 2005 Home Game
Trainmaster : 10/12/2009 5:58 pm : link
at Giants stadium again this week? In 2005, I think Chris Berman must have been getting royalties every time he mentioned that the Giants got an extra home game (even though the Saints had a better road versus home record the last few years).

If anyone hears Berman mention it this week, let me know.
I'm wondering if we don't play a lot more nickel
chopperhatch : 10/12/2009 6:02 pm : link
given the Saints lack of overpowering O-line and run game.
Giants need to pressure Brees.... I know
Blue21 : 10/12/2009 6:13 pm : link
I know we say that every week but this will help neutrilize the TE's.
Let's see if
bob in tx : 10/12/2009 6:13 pm : link
Shockey/Evans spend their time helping Bushrod or Streif blocking Osi. With Brown out at LT this is the time for Osi to dominate.
chopper
Fish : 10/12/2009 6:39 pm : link
I think we see more nickel unless they can stay with their receivers man to man which I think they can do.

Pressure on brees all day will make his life miserable which will cause the dump off to bush where our LBs need to cover him closely. Cannot have a westbrook situation here.
Ball Control
nyg4life : 10/12/2009 6:40 pm : link
Will win this game. Look for B.J. and A.B. to have huge games. Play action when we got to have it. The Jets and Eagles only wish they had the O-line the Giants have.

the jets and bills can keep brees to no TDs than i think the giants d can keep him in check as well

Our toughest games
Fish : 10/12/2009 7:17 pm : link
of the year will be the Vikings especially if it means something and always the Eagles.
I just dont see how the Saints can go from being terrible the last couple of years to all of a sudden an awesome 4-0 team. Brees is a great QB and their is a ton of talent but the Giants are running on all cylinders. Every faze of the game has been played well for the Giants. Yes we played softer teams but you are supposed to blow them out and we did. In the past soft games meant a game coming down to the wire.
Well Fish two things:
chopperhatch : 10/12/2009 7:24 pm : link
1) The Nickel would be so that we could have the other DB on the field to cover Bush out of the backfield

2) The Saint were not simply terrible the last couple years. They were in remission. In '06 they were a very tough team. I think this is more of that team coming back into form.

The Saints aren't the Colts, but they are a good first test.
Saints DL is small in the middle (Kendrick Clancy and Sedric Ellis)
oipolloi : 10/12/2009 7:29 pm : link
They will not be able to handle the Giants OL as the game wears on. The key is to get ahead and then run the ball.

The only way the Saints win is if they get turnovers and an early lead and force the Giants to abandon the run to play catch up.

first time watching the NFL? happens every year...

Im very confident about this game as well
JoeMP2003 : 10/12/2009 7:44 pm : link
Especially our offense being able to move the ball against their defense. Im not buying that Greg Williams all of a sudden waived a magic wand and turned a garbage defense into a top 10 one. In their first 4 games, they have played 2 rookie QBs (Sanchez, stafford), Kevin Kolb in his first NFL start (and he moved the ball all over them) and Trent Edwards. You couldn't play an easier schedule for facing opposing QBs. The Giants looked like they have gone against the entire 1983 QB draft by comparison, when people knock the quality of offenses we have faced

We are going to move the ball all over them. I have confidence that our defense can do a solid enough job to where we can win by scoring in the low 20s
Confident..
Sean in PA : 10/12/2009 7:47 pm : link
Eli loves playing in domes, add the fact that this will be his first start in NO. I expect the Giants to come out flying considering all the hype the Saints are getting. I think at Philly in 3 weeks will be much tougher in comparison, but this will be a big challenge as well.
Give me 8-1 at the bye
JoeMP2003 : 10/12/2009 7:53 pm : link
And im happy

Win the 2 home games (ARZ, SD) against pretty horrible defenses

Split the 2 road games (@ NO, @ PHI)

Thats about as good as you can ask for.

Will be a very good game, my crystal ball is broke, so I am not making predictions. I just hope we continue to not get anyone hurt and that we continue to play at a high level. I like the way Eli is playing, and if Hixon can get back to returning punts and lickoffs and be our 4 th wideout, we should be able to hit them with everything we got. Our #1 pass defense will be put to the test now.

We are playing well and putting up points. If its a closer game than I think then the Saints can use this game as a measuring stick to see how good they really are. Right now I am not buying that they are great.

I have a lot of respect for Gregg Williams, but when it comes to facing an NFL quarterback, they ain't seen nothing yet. The Saints defense is in for a culture shock. They will be a much tougher test in the playoffs, but the Giants should own them this Sunday.

I'm a little nervous about our safeties and linebackers in coverage in this game. The Saints pass a LOT to their TE's & RB's and without Boley/Phillips, I hope we're able to cover the underneath passes. I believe stopping these type of plays is the key to the game for us.
i love our chances

huh? That's a pretty over-zealous prediction. This is going to be a very tough game for us. If we go in there and play mistake-less football I think we win. However, if we do not play extremely well the outcome may be different.

We are going to find out a lot about our defense. The Saints are gonna put up yards and get points, the challenge for the defense is to keep the Giants in a position to outscore the Saints. If it is a high scoring game i think this fares bad for us. A low scoring game and we come out on top.

I really think Boley is going to be greatly missed this week because IMO, he would have neutralized Shockey. From what i have seen, he is pretty darn good in coverage and could easily handle Shockey, get him frustrated and make him hurt his team. However, without Boley i expect to see a big game from Shockey. What we need to do is keep 'em out of the endzone, settling for Field Goals.

Brown and Rause really need to step it up. There were a few times they got beat deep against the Raiders, which should not have happened. Thankfully, Russell is absolutely atrocious and could not hit them, but Brees will be much different. I really hope TC concentrates on getting them used to fighting for that deep ball position all week.

The best part about this game is that we are playing with house money. At 5-0, we can afford to lose to a good team and still come out on top. This may encourage the critics to knock the Giants by saying that they can't beat any good teams and are only 5-1 because of the weak schedule they have. But I'll tell ya, you know you have a good team when the ONLY thing to criticize is the schedule. Also, good teams win the games they are supposed to, and win them handedly, unlike, say, the Cowboys!!!

Go Blue!!!

Can we get to Brees consistently with 4 guys? We can't give him all day to throw - he has too many weapons.
This seems to be a good spot...
BMac : 10/13/2009 10:57 am : link
...to have Rouse play up and help guard against the outlet and shorter over-the-middle routes. At the very least, he could double as a run stopping option. My only fear is that he (as yet) doesn't seem to be too sharp in pass coverage. Hopefully, if he can get a couple of good licks in on receivers or Bush, it may have them hearing footsteps. I'd also think he'd be an option in the pass rush. Definitely a very, very interesting game shaping up!

We do play mistake free football. We are a very well coached team. Rarely do we make mistakes. Especially mistakes that cost us. Knowing this I think we have the edge. Also with Eli not phased by the crowd noise helps.
I stand by my prediction.
