I got this email from a friend of mine about next years NFL schedule .I guess we will see how true this is in April ....
A third party company works with the NFL for the scheduling period. Making the schedule for the next season is a huge process because you have to schedule around already scheduled events, have to take team requests (I.E. Tampa Bay doesn't want to play SF on the road one week and then Cleveland on the road the next) and figure out what teams get MNF, SNF, TNF game and how many. Then you have to proof read the schedule to make damn sure you don't have any conflicts and that no team is getting screwed by travel time and days between games and that stuff.
ESPN and NBC send in their requests this time of the year. From what I've heard we'll see, in no order:
MNF:
Dallas/Philly
New England/Green Bay
Atlanta/New Orleans
Indy/NY Giants
New England/NY Jets
Dallas/NY Giants
Philly/Washington
Indy/Houston
Green Bay/Philly
Tennessee/Houston
Pittsburgh/New Orleans
Denver/San Diego on Christmas
They second MNF game on opening week will probably be Oakland/San Fran but San Diego/Oakland, Denver/Oakland and Oakland/Seattle are also being thrown around
SNF:
New Orleans/Baltimore
Minnesota/Dallas
Dallas/Washington
Pittsburgh/Atlanta
New England/Indy
Green Bay/Minnesota
San Diego/New England
Dallas/Indy
San Diego/Indy
New Orleans/Minnesota
And the opening thursday night game of the season depends on who wins the Super Bowl. If New Orleans wins it will be New Orleans/Atlanta at the SuperDome and if Indy wins it will be Indy/Cincinnati at Lucas Oil Stadium
Thanksgiving games will be Detroit/NY Jets and Dallas/Chicago. Tampa Bay/Carolina will probably be the night game.
Those are the requests ESPN/NBC have sent in for MNF and SNF that have been accepted and will happen. There's a bunch more games that have been requested but CBS/FOX have protected or the NFL just didn't accept.
any time the Giants and Cowboys now play, the ratings are through the roof.
then we have only one prime time game. and that is fannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnntastic as far as i'm concerned.
will be monday night instead of sunday night if this is true
the season vs dallas on MNF??
It's weird that there are only 2 Giants night games so far. Usually we get the max of 5. There's always flex scheduling.
but it looks like your listings indicate the home team first, as in HOME/VISITOR.
i'm blind. make that 2 prime time games. crap.
dam, i like when the game is on SNF. al michaels and collinsworth are the best out there IMO
to believe NBC wouldn't want us once. Though with flex scheduling, who knows...
chance the Giants get no NBC games.
odd that there are no games scheduled for the new stadium in those plans.
a MNF game....
I also think that Dal/Giants will open the new stadium on a MNF game
thanks for the post!
I hate the prime time games..I can live with 2. Give me a nice slate of about 9-10, 1pm starts and I'll be in heaven.
and the Thanksgiving games are always @Detroit and @Dallas. That's where I derived the HOME listed first question.
not all the games that will be on SNF/MNF. So undoubtedly we will have more than 2 primetime games even before flex scheduling comes in
1:00pm or 4:00pm games are fine by me.
Gets an awful lot of home prime-time games... shocking.gif
I would be shocked if the NFL doesn't schedule the Manning Bowl II for the opening Thursday night of the '10 season.
weird match-up for them to pick...especially with teams like the Cowboys, Chargers, Titans and the Giants to choose from.
that the Giants are not on Sunday night at least once. I bet even money one of the Cowboy or one of the Eagles games is on Sunday night.
but now I'm not so sure. The first meaningful game of the season will get good ratings regardless of the matchup. Manning vs Manning can be a big draw any time of the year. So I have my doubts about that now.
game is if the Colts want an opponent they're head and shoulders above.
Otherwise it's Manning bowl 2.
doesn't put any request in for the Giants or Jets with a new stadium opening up?
I think I remember the G Men making an advance request to the league that for 2010 we do not want any home prime time games due to the parking lot (old Giants Stadium) being demolished and suitable mass transit not being available. If I recall correctly, that would rule out any prime time showing the new stadium (likely true for the Jets as well). So I would not expect a MNF or SNF opening for the stadium (although I am still hoping for Dallas first, Indy second). Can anyone else remember reading that about no home night games, or am I completely wrong?
I think you're right; I recall that too.
