Move the Superbowl to Saturday
giantsfan227B : 2/8/2010 4:16 pm
I didn't care much for this years SB. I was watching the kids and missed most of the 1st qtr, halftime and a few minutes of the 3rd. That being said, what other single event draws more than 100 million viewers at the same time? I mean did that many vote or watch the elections? No. The Emmy's, Grammy's or Oscars? Close but no. Lets face it, parties are meant for Saturday. You can drink and enjoy all of the festivities with a day to rest. A co-worker of my wife banged in sick. Really?? I doubt it. He was up watching the game and called out. If it was Saturday he could recover. I know the NFL is about tradition but some playoff games are on Saturday night. And if it has to be Sunday, why not the Sunday of President's Day Weekend. Then most people would be off on Monday anyway. All I am saying is that for east coast fans, staying up past 10 on a work night to see the post-game celebration, interviews etc.. make it difficult when you have work the next day. It is time the NFL make this minor scheduling shift to maximize this event. This would allow them to start the game at 8pm if they so desired which is primetime tv all of the way.
I believe the current plan
Giants in 07 : 2/8/2010 4:18 pm
Is to move the Super Bowl back to Presidents Day Weekend, and then everybody or most people would have that Monday after off because of Presidents day.

this goes hand in hand with the NFL's two preseason, 18 game reg. season thing.
Sundays are the highest TV ratings
Psycho : 2/8/2010 4:19 pm
Saturday night people are out doing other things, usually the lowest ratings night.
they're not going to bump it back to Saturday
lalalalala : 2/8/2010 4:22 pm

so people can drink more. as pointed out, Sundays have captive audiences.
the host city

makes too much money on that saturday night for them to change it.
Why do people feel the need to get
Gman11 : 2/8/2010 4:25 pm
shitfaced while watching a football game?
what other single event draws more than 100 million viewers?
cmike22 : 2/8/2010 4:27 pm
The last WC Final between France and Italy drew over 700 million I think
I should have said
giantsfan227B : 2/8/2010 4:32 pm
American Event. The WC is much larger than the Superbowl but the SB just beat MASH for the #1 American show of all time.
Never thought it would beat Mash
cmike22 : 2/8/2010 4:36 pm
But the Sb ratings seem to climb every single year
the plan is to move it to President's day weekend...
GMAN4LIFE : 2/8/2010 4:47 pm
makes most sense since there is no way to make it a national holiday...

you might as well ask 'why do people like to get drunk'?

a: because its fun, and its socially accepted to do so while watching football (otherwise, afternoon drinking is kind of weird)

I am probably the only one that hates the Presidents Day weekend idea. Lots of people go on vacation then. Just not the same watching the superbowl in a hotel lobby versus at family/friends as is currently tradition.

its not just about people getting shitfaced (although it is for me and my friends/family). But if you are hosting/attending a Super Bowl party, you are gonan be tired from the whole experience. Its basically like Thanksgiving for those hosting the party as they need to make food, get party supplies, entertain guests.

By the time it is all said and done, people arent going to sleep till around 11-12 oclock from cleaning or getting back from the party (and thats if their team ISNT playing in the game).
I've been wanting this for years
Upstate_Giants_fan : 2/8/2010 5:02 pm
probably makes too much sense.
they could
BigWinner810 : 2/8/2010 5:25 pm
also move up Presidents Weekend up a few weeks so that it coincides with the Super Bowl.

you are not the only one.

Then again, I live in CA, so with the time difference the game is well over and I'm home by the time I'm even thinking about bed.
This year

The day before presidents day is valentines day. Can you imagine the problems that would cause? I would rather it was on a Saturday.
What industry are you guys in that you get Presidents day off??
Jint Fan in Buc Land : 2/8/2010 7:41 pm
Is it more important in the northeast?
It's a federal holiday
seeker716 : 2/8/2010 7:45 pm
lots of companies have it off. My company used to but they changed it to a working day and gave everyone an extra personal day instead.
The S.B. should have been played on Sunday, October 18th

when we were 5-0.
Agreed

A Super Bowl Saturday would absolutely awesome. It would be the best night of the year - everybody would get drunk. The game ends at a good time to go out. It would be massive.
Move it to the Sun..
SanFranGiantsFan : 2/8/2010 8:00 pm
right before President's Day Wknd.

Or Sat.

And lets face it: if you're team ain't playing, you're going to want to party for the SB.
