what do you do with a guy like that? Made an awful, disgusting mistake as a teenager, but it was a consensual relationship and because of it he will be treated the same as rapists, pedophiles, kiddie pornographers and the like for the rest of his life.
he was 16 yrs old, he's stayed out of trouble since then,
I just don't know that it should be the sort of thing that follows him around for the rest of his life. They talk about how child sex offenders are easier to rehabilitate but I just don't see this in the same class of offenses as sexual assault or pedophilia where propensity to repeat is really at issue.
Consensual sex between teenage siblings close in age probably
happens far more often than is reported. This kid seems repentant and cognizant that this relationship was taboo - he was forthright about it in the past. Frankly IMO he should be forgiven and the issue buried in the press as it is in the court records, and I find it disturbing that any reporter would dig this up and display it to the world at large.
Is this worse than Rothlesberger's alleged rape behavior as a mature adult, now seemingly a pattern? I think not, in fact I think it's far less egregious. Hopefullly the kid is drafted by a team that can provide him with the right support and ongoing counseling as needed.
I'd thought about mentioning him in my prior post about 3rd round OL possibilities, but had no idea (obviously) about his prior arrest and conviction. Frankly I wish I didn't know about it now.
Russel - IMO his act was in now way equal to pedophelia
or sexual assault - the key being that it was consensual. One wonders about the family he came from, how his parents failed to teach him some basic principles of right and wrong.
Hopefully this kid stays out of trouble, but if he could not play football, I am sure most people would write him off.
I imagine him getting a shot in the Pro's, but I cannot imagine him being a Giant. Then again, Christian Peter was a Giant.
T'Paulie....?
Davitar
Give a little bit of heart & soul..
