I love it. lol. if the Jets don't like it, they can revoke their funding and play in the Nassau Coliseum parking lot

when Goodell showed up, nobody had any change so everybody just got drunk instead.

"This is just absolutely BS! I can't express the emotion right now... but I'm EXTREMELY annoyed that neither the Giants nor the NFL have the decency to let the Jets open up the stadium. Man, I really wish the WSS wasn't so doomed and the Gints were still playing in the old raggedy POS stadium. This really is a travesty and a supreme smack in the face. "

What did Craig Carton say? I am interested to hear. He is a noted Giants hater.
I'm torn....

I would love to open up against the Cowboys or Eagles, but I would also like to open up the new place with a "W".

Perhaps the Bears would be a good opponent: renew an old rivalry who just had a free agency spending spree.

Where's that from.... a Jets board?
Still not one word about an invite ???
Run with 81 : 3/15/2010 3:06 pm : link
Come on... someone had to have reported how this all played out... When were the teams notified?

If neither team was, & the league just "decided" heads & tails here... I refuse to believe that.
I mean just come out & announce they are giving the game to the Giants. Don't make it a farce open to embarrassing criticism.

I just want to hear both teams were notified or invited!
Yes

If the Jets don't like it they could always play at Hofstra they don't have a football team anymore!! Let's hope the coin toss is the begining of more winning for the 10 season!

The jets have only opened the season at "home" 6 times in the last 20 years. That does seem a bit skewed.

would not be surprised if NFL said to hell with the Jets after the Jets posted the thing about the Coin toss and decided that the Giants were going to open it at that point.

Did the Jets have a nice run in the playoffs, absolutely, but my question is, what have they done that they "deserve" the right to have the first game?
This was the best comment of them all

Hey- look at that...the Giants were actually able to win something!

They get to an AFC championship and they think they are god's gift to football .
Sure is one cocky bunch of fans

It's going to be a beautiful thing when these "new" Jets come unraveled like the old Jets. Beautiful.

Breaking: Giants and Jets to play at home on opening weekend. Giants on Sunday, Jets on Monday. Makes sense.

Jets to open preseason at new stadium.
You would assume NBC will televise the Giants game
Figgy2989 : 3/15/2010 4:50 pm : link
On Sunday night, then the Meadowlands staff has their work cut out for them if the Jets are going to be playing there the next night.

@TheBlueScreen

Coin flip for 1st game took place Friday -- 1 day before #NYJ revealed plan for a flip and 2 days before #NFL refused to confirm the plan.
So it'll be a Sunday afternoon game instead of Sun night?

lawguy9801 : 3/15/2010 5:33 pm : link
if the Giants have a Sunday afternoon game with the Jets having the Monday nighter? They get to have the first national audience game?
Here is the link for.....

both of them playing at home opening week.

one fan made the point that fox has the doubleheader for the first week, so it is likely that the game is the late game and be the game of the week so that it will have a national audience. By having it the late game they will have some ability at the end to show how the stadium lights up in blue.
Jets get

first preseason game. That's expected.
If no Jets representatives

were invited to the coin toss, I don't blame Woody for being furious. That's just not right. Now, if they were invited and none showed, then maybe he's furious at them.
no one

actually believes there was a coin toss, right? If you think the NFL actually considered the Jets for the opener, ive got a bridge to sell you

I doubting their needed to be a coin toss if they had the Sunday afternoon-Monday night game planned already. Giants given the choice would prefer Sunday Afternoon, while Jets prefer the Monday Night game. ( I prefer the day game).
oh good lord..

Comment from Woody:

Nice smackdown of the #NFL from #Jets owner Woody Johnson over Coin-Flip Gate: "An NFL coin toss has a few fundamental elements that are missing here, most notably the presence of the teams involved. That's how it's always done in the League whether it’s determining the order of the draft or deciding who’s going to kick off the game. When the issue of which team would be hosting the first regular season game could not be resolved on the merits, I suggested a coin toss as the fairest way to resolve this issue. The League rejected that idea.
Then, I was told Friday that a coin toss took place at the League office and the Jets lost. We rejected a process in which neither team was present. The League departed from our time-honored tradition and declined the opportunity to set the matter straight with a transparent process." Wow.
somebody send woody over a box of tissues please

If having an opening day of his own is so important to him, maybe he should've given more thought to opening his own stadium somewhere else?
I thought the whole coin toss thing was just Jets
SanFranGiantsFan : 3/15/2010 8:50 pm : link
propaganda and that in fact there was no coin toss?
so i just read through most of that jetsinsider stuff
stockton : 3/15/2010 9:50 pm : link
And it seems that fans (of all teams, not just the jets) forget that the NFL is not about being fair. The NFL is a privately owned business with the intent of making shit tons of money.

I have no idea where people get the idea that the NFL has to be fair about stuff like this. They don't. They can do what they want, and if you don't like it...you are welcome to watch something else and spend your money elsewhere.
