Nice pick up
uberpwnage : 7/27/2011 10:36 am : link
If Beatty steps up we're golden along the OL.
Check the 49er's message boards
Big Brandon27 : 7/27/2011 10:36 am : link
and they aren't happy about Baas leaving them.. Most said he is coming off a very good season, but has battled injuries in the past

Giants : 7/27/2011 10:37 am : link
I'm toning it down on Baas. People get too worked-up on these signing. More than half don't know a thing about Baas. But the part about him playing a lot of ST and him playing both Center and Guard is all true
Any word
Jon in NYC : 7/27/2011 10:37 am : link
on the numbers?
mfsd...lol... That was the first thing I thought of when
TheMick7 : 7/27/2011 10:40 am : link
I saw Bass'pic...Bam Bam's "little" brother!!!!!!

Saos1n : 7/27/2011 10:41 am : link
According to L.T.=Lawrence Taylor's twitter asshat info... $26M
Very solid pickup. In terms of age/production he was the best avail
Eric on Li : 7/27/2011 10:41 am : link
Now I hope we make a big run at Blalock. Talk about strengthening the middle of our OL. Jeez.

Diehl - Blalock - Baas - Snee - KM

Beatty/Boothe/Petrus/Koets/Brewer as reserves

In 2012 KM leaves, Diehl kicks over, Beatty goes in at LT, Brewer becomes 3rd T.
Hmmm
Jon in NYC : 7/27/2011 10:42 am : link
hopefully that's over 6 years.
Lots of possibilities now, which is great for competition.
chrispisano66 : 7/27/2011 10:43 am : link
Assuming right side of the line remains the same and Diehl and Baas both start, which they will.

Diehl-Baas-Koets-Snee-KMac

Diehl-Petrus-Baas-Snee-KMac

Diehl-Boothe-Baas-Snee-KMac

Beatty-Diehl-Baas-Snee-KMac

Backups look solid as well, based on starting lineup. Koets, Boothe, Petrus, Beatty,
How often over the last few years
JerseyJoe : 7/27/2011 10:43 am : link
did we get stuffed running on third and short and fourth and short?

Going from O'Hara to Baas could be a HUGE help in that department.

If we somehow still keep/restructure Andrews and he remains healthy we will have an absolute mammoth OL.

Saos1n : 7/27/2011 10:43 am : link
No... 5 year deal...
Well
Jon in NYC : 7/27/2011 10:44 am : link
that's a pretty penny in that case. Over 5 mil per (yes, my math skillz are that good).
Diehl-Boothe-Bass-Snee-McKenzie makes the most sense to me
Greg from LI : 7/27/2011 10:44 am : link
.
If K-Mack is
Big Brandon27 : 7/27/2011 10:45 am : link
still playing at a high level I hope the Giants look to re-sing him to a new 2 deal.. The guy has been nothing but steady and reliable for us..
Jersey Joe
old timer : 7/27/2011 10:47 am : link
Had the same thought. If Baas improves our short yardage percentage and that keeps drives alive, this move could have a major impact.
Diehl needs to go to LG
Torn Tendon : 7/27/2011 10:49 am : link
and Beatty to LT. Diehl was the 3rd worst starting LT for pass protection efficiency in 2010. Giants even told Brewer on draft day to work on LT drills and not bother with RT. Giants don't want Diehl at LT another year if they can help it.
Baas
Eric from BBI : Admin : 7/27/2011 10:49 am : link
was excellent at center for the 49ers last year after struggling at guard most of his career.

This is a very good pick-up. Giants are young, bigger at center now.
Ah, thank you, Reese!
yatqb : 7/27/2011 10:49 am : link
We needed a guy who can play C and G. A new starter on the OL. We certainly had a plan when we made those cuts, and here we go executing it.
Oops
L.T.=Lawrence Taylor : 7/27/2011 10:49 am : link
Looks like my asshat was indeed an asshat. And, um, now he's dissapeared from Twitter. Guess I blew that one...

Eric from BBI : Admin : 7/27/2011 10:50 am : link
Yes, I heard about this last night but was told not to say anything.
Eric from BBI
Saos1n : 7/27/2011 10:53 am : link
Gotcha!

*Note to self:
-Never tell L.T.=Lawrence Taylor ANYTHING
-Tell Eric from BBI EVERYTHING
Hopefully Boothe is just a backup plan
BLUATHRT : 7/27/2011 10:53 am : link
and they have a better plan at G , whether that be Petrus or another FA.
not THE Pro Football Focus?!
Greg from LI : 7/27/2011 10:53 am : link
Holy shit!

If Beatty can beat out Diehl for the job, wonderful. So far, he hasn't shown that he can.
Giants - I was only pointing out that Baas has plenty
mfsd : 7/27/2011 10:54 am : link
of starting experience. I only remember him as a stud in college and from what I've read about him now- seems like a good pickup
Dreamsville line ....
Manny in CA : 7/27/2011 10:57 am : link
Beatty at Left tackle - If he were to miraculously wake up one morning and have all the NFL LT technique mastered (in his head and in muscle memory)

Andrews at Left Guard - If he were to miraculously wake up one morning, his back healed and the pain gone; (he still has that ALL PRO ability, and the Giants know it)

Bass at Center - Finally, somebody that doesn't get pushed around

Snee at Right Guard - We all know who he is

K-Mac at right tackle - Coming off his best year,as a Giant

It's hard to believe
Rflairr : 7/27/2011 10:58 am : link
He is coming in as a G.
profootballfocus' ratings
jintz4life : 7/27/2011 10:58 am : link
shouldn't be quoted as gospel. The other info (penalties, sacks allowed, etc) is excellent.
We all know
Rflairr : 7/27/2011 11:01 am : link
The Giants are high on Beatty. He'll start at LT with DD going to LG with Baas at Center. That's a heck of an OL. It's about depth now.

#3 Center- David Baas-SF-A former high second round pick who had struggled to put it all together,he enjoyed a breakout year in 2010. Moved to center after Eric Heitmann went down with a broken leg,Baas showed the attributes necessary to be a very good anchor for many years to come.
With Diehl moving to guard
PEEJ : 7/27/2011 11:05 am : link
the Giants might be in the market for a swing tackle.
this may already be on this thread somewhere...
Italianju : 7/27/2011 11:05 am : link
but i have a friend who is a huge MICH fan and he said this guy was an absolute monster Center in college. Do we know why SF moved him to guard?
That's great that the Giants are so high on Beatty
Greg from LI : 7/27/2011 11:06 am : link
I'll feel better when his play starts to show why
Great signing!

Jon in NYC : 7/27/2011 11:10 am : link
I think it was due to the other personnel they had.
Thanks Jon..
Italianju : 7/27/2011 11:11 am : link
hopefully this is good news then. Maybe he just wasnt cut out for guard.
Giants also have a pretty good record
JerseyJoe : 7/27/2011 11:11 am : link
with FA O-lineman. Ron Stone,OHara,McKensie etc.

This could be a huge pick up for us. I wonder if we are done with big pick ups (aside from our own guys).

Whatever the case, you know we have a very well thought plan in place.

Phil from WNY : 7/27/2011 11:14 am : link
The niners liked Eric Heitman who played center before hurting his neck last year.
I'm not a big fan of Beatty.
Klaatu : 7/27/2011 11:14 am : link
I'm intrigued by Brewer, though.
Thanks Phil...
Italianju : 7/27/2011 11:14 am : link
well either way it looks like this kid had his best year when he was back at C. Thats good news.
If we are looking at adding an LT
JerseyJoe : 7/27/2011 11:15 am : link
and moving Diehl inside (where he'd be better suited) it looks like there a few options out there.

2011 FA LTs - ( New Window )

Fish : 7/27/2011 11:16 am : link
I agree. We did not know much about Ohara and the others before they signed with us. Those guys were all up and coming. Hopefully Bass fits this mold.
Who knows ...
Beer Man : 7/27/2011 11:18 am : link
Maybe Andrews will be back in the picture if he finds he can't get a better deal elsewhere. He did want to return to the Giants.
The Giants....
rptl530 : 7/27/2011 11:18 am : link
have some flexibility on the OLine and the FA period just started. Beatty will be given every chance to lock down the LT spot and if he can't then it'll be Diehl.
Hope he'll leave that ugly-ass facemask in SF
FranknWeezer : 7/27/2011 11:21 am : link
Do the right thing, Skibs.
what a pleasant surpise this is
djm : 7/27/2011 11:30 am : link
LOVE the signing!
OMG !!!
Blue Blood : 7/27/2011 11:31 am : link
what are we gonna do we dont have a center I knew we should have gotten one of those UDFA's !!! Were gonna be screwed...

see how silly you look now..
CHAMPION
Giantology : 7/27/2011 11:32 am : link
Upon contemplation, If Andrews back holds up and we keep him
JerseyJoe : 7/27/2011 11:33 am : link
Andrews-Diehl-Baas-Snee-McKensie . WOW. That is the makings of an absolute mammoth OL.

Andrews also tweeted not to give up yet on the restructure.

He is a very unique character and loved the family environment here.

I don't think he wants the unknown of another organization.

I have a strong feeling he stays here and Beatty will be our back up LT in case Andrews goes down.
I'm pretty sure that tweet was
Giantology : 7/27/2011 11:34 am : link
him not giving up on his career.
