I don't consider it to be overpaying either...why do you? I think 5 mil a year average is about right for a good center but could be completely wrong as I haven't looked up with the average center is making nowadays.
Of course, it's the guaranteed money that's really important. How much are decent centers making nowadays? I have no idea.
Boley's contract is good but hardly Earth-shattering. Canty's contract (which is very similar to Osi's, by the way) was hefty, but the value was there considering the market for DTs and the fact that Cofield and Robbins were both coming back from microfracture surgery.
I'm guessing Baas' best negotiating tactic was to sit across the table from Jerry Reese and Kevin Abrams and just glare at them. I mean, seriously, that is one tough-looking dude.
Or he had his agent call. That, too.
A look at the deal for Baas, who turns 30 on Sept. 28:
Holy shit.

Learns the playbook quickly and is very good for the program, evident by the drastic improvement of the team's ground game in 2004 after he shifted to center (team improved from 106.0 yards per game to 189.7 on the ground).
Bernard well that was a good signing(joke)
canty to much money and hasnt performed up to contract to what we are paying him. Dont tell me that free agency year was money well spent
He was much better last year and he'll be good this year. Most players are overpaid after their rookie deals. Boley is due 3.5 M this year.. it's not a huge deal.
Has not played up to his contract? Obviously you weren't getting the games up in Montreal when we were getting torched by TE's. Well guess what HASN'T been happening since he's been healthy?
For many people, if it's not on a stat sheet it didn't happen.. unfortunately.
Boley isn't an elite player by any means but I think he's played well here and he gets a lot of flak because of his contract. He's probably the best LB we have right now.
What would you have done to remedy our DT situation back then? And what was your plan heading into free-agency this year? What did you want the Giants to accomplish?
Someone already mentioned how the SF running game improved by 70/80 yrds. a game after he went to Center. That in itself is enough for me considering they had little pass O.

Unless of course the team has a miserable year somehow and TC gets fired. But I'd like to think that won't be the case.

Without him, Snee would be starting at center right now.
