I don't even care what the "news" is....You should be banned for starting a thread implying that you have info, and then not going into detail. The only reason this place goes nuts is because morons like you post dumb shit just to get a rise outta people.
But a cryptic msg on Mike G's blog is what ended up breaking the story of Smith's knee last year. For two days the Giants said it was a slightly pulled hamstring.
and begin to lose faith in our front office. The Eagles are a possession receiver away from being one of the most lethal offenses in the game. Say it ain't so Steve, say it ain't so.
I trust whatever move the Giants make regarding Smith and Kiwanuka, because their value depends on medical information that the Giants are going to be more aware of than any other team out there is. Whatever move they make would be from a position of strength-- if another team outbids them, chances are that that team is underestimating the severity of the injury.
don't sweat it...everyone knows you aren't a trouble maker or any type of troll. Thanks for sharing what you can, and hopefully your source is pulling your leg.
I assume it was our smith. As i said, this source knows steve smith is my favorite Giant and I hate the Eagles more than anything in the world? The reason. I frankly put it on here was to have someone ask mike or ralph since i cannot as my source would know i spilled the beans and his source wpuld know.
The man will probably never be what we remember if he hits the field at all..Let others have our infirmed instead of lettong them sign with us..
I'll miss the SS I knew and grew to love. If the Giants let him go, then they obviously feel whenever or if he recovers, he won't deserve the big bucks..
We certainly can win without him, but we must lock up MM
Come on with the even entertaining the SIMMS guy Â
with what we would call asshat info. Just because it's not what we want, people shouldn't be calling for his head. That's why we don't get asshats to post anymore because of the negativity they get!
But we need to develop a F***ing blueprint on how to beat the Eagles...
I am seriously sick of worrying about what moves they make....History has proven we know a whole lot more on how to run a successful franchise...I still say this is the year we break the trend with them...no matter what happens..
but I fear Smith isn't going to see the field this year(I hope I'm wrong)even though I really expected him to be signed by now and contributing(wishful thinking on my part).
If he went anywhere other than the Eales I don't think it would bother me all that much just because I've convinced myself he isn't going to play this season.
I don't see how he could pass a physical. He can't play until midseason, his knee is f'd.
If he does leave, so be it. The Giants aren't losing '07-'10 Steve Smith, they'd be losing a guy who's entire game is based on quick cuts/movement who may never be the same player.
Unless SIMMS's source is in the Philly or Giant organization, then the only way he'd have this info is if it were "out there" somewhere. If it were out there somewhere, it'd be spreading all over the place. Somebody would've corroborated or found the original bit of gossip it came from.
We Don't know that.
This injury could be career ending or career shortening.
I doubt the Giants Med staff would let Smith just walk if
there was any indication that he would recover and have a future with us or the NFL for that matter.
I trust the Giant org. on this as shitty as it is to lose S. Smith.
that if he plays again, he'll not be the SS we know. It is not something I'm saying now to justify anything my friend. If the Giants(who are not always right) deem him unworthy of being signed then I'll go with that
Over Steve Smith. Ive been consistent on this throughout and think even when healthy hes not the player painted out to be in some circles here. And hes not healthy, he just underwent a major major procedure that makes an ACL repair look like a walk in the park
Did sign him, then why would you think his knee is shot, if they did sign him then they obviously have a different opinion. Why did Coughlin talk about a long recovery, if he turns around and signs with the Eagles and he is back on the field soon, what does that tell us?
And he signs with the Eagles, and is on the field "soon", it tells us the Giants have horrible doctors, the Eagles have horrible doctors, or the Eagles have a serious rehab program.
More likely, no matter where he ends up, he won't be on the field until at least midseason because his knee is actually f'd like everyone says it is.
it's because they are confident that he is a long long way from being able to play effectively. As much as it would suck to lose the player he was when he was healthy, if he's far from health, and far from being the player he was, it doesn't really bother me to see him go somewhere else, even to a rival. Maybe they're wrong in evaluating his health and recovery chances, but given how valuable he's been to the team, I assume they're going to examine him as carefully as possible before deciding to let him get away.
to say anything on Steve's Facebook. I felt it necessary w/ my previous comment on commending him for looking for the best deal possible. Him being an Eagle was never a thought in my mind
That's fine but that's an odd route for a replacement, someone who might not be ready until November at best? They might taken looks at Mason and Cotchery
The "playbook secrets" angle is generally a joke when you're talking about division rivals. The Eagles' coaches watch lots of Giants film-- they know the Giants' offensive system just about as well as the Giants' players do, if not better.
thanks for the 3rd down in the SB, and don't let the door hit you. He was never a favorite of mine and i think our WR corps this year will be its best and most explosive ever with Nicks and Mario both in the base offense and both further along in their knowledge of the offense.
Its part of the game. They can't all be Strahan.
Let's not give Lurker credit for this, please... Â
Giants receiver Steve Smith is passing the time during the lockout by having fun with Photoshop.
After Smith’s teammate Osi Umenyiora got into a war of words with LeSean McCoy of the Eagles, Smith decided he wanted in on the fun. And he did it by posting a picture on his YFrog account showing himself, Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin celebrating the Giants’ Super Bowl XLII victory, and placing within that photo a photo of an empty Eagles trophy case.
In other words, Smith wants to remind everyone that the Giants have won a Vince Lombardi Trophy (actually three of them) and the Eagles haven’t.
NFL Network had a lengthy discussion of Smith’s statement, and Smith also posted a video on Facebook in which he discussed his general philosophy toward how people react to his comments.
“People aren’t going to like everything you say, you’re going to have a lot of guys that hate, and there’s going to be a lot of people that like what you say,” Smith says in the video.
In this case, Eagles fans are going to hate what Smith said. Giants fans will love it.
hahaha fu very much lol i see what you see there Â
Why would he care if Smith won't be ready till mid-season or late in the year. Smith would be a good late season or heaven forbid post season player for them to compliment their WR core.
If the Giants don't think Smith is healthy enough to sign yet, why wouldn't Smith take a one year contract with a few million guarenteed to play with the Eagles in 2011 and then become a Unrestricted Free Agent next offseason when healthier to sign a long term contract in 2012.
Hate to see him playing for the Eagles but if that's his best option available to him after his meeting with the Giants yesturday, then I can't blame him.
I can see how folks can be VERY concerned about Smith's serious injury but to not appreciate how he performed for the Giants is just ridiculous. Without him we may not have won the Super Bowl and I guess his 108 catches doesn't really amount to much to some fans.
sorry if im not crying in my soup enough about losing a guy who is probably the 3rd most talented WR on the roster and has major medical red flags. I guess i should be more gloomy about the situation.
Im not, we're going to be fine even if he bounces. And if you don't like how often i have to say it, tough shit
his signifigence to this team have or have had their head in the sand. He is not only a very good rec. but he has the football instincts that make him so much more valuable than the stats indicate. How many times did see him hustle to pick up a loose ball just in case it was a fumble, or hustle to prevent an interception or long return after one. Could you say the same of the ever pouting Plaxico?? I know he is hurt, but if he has chnce to recover fully then this will REALLY hurt.(This team, and us fans)
@Patricia_Traina Pat, BBI is going nuts...is Steve Smith signing with Â
the dude had microfracture surgery in december and from all accounts isn't close to ready to be able to play. good for him if he can get a solid guaranteed contract.
@TheBlueScreen
Ralph Vacchiano
There you go. The rumors were true ... RT @Jeff_McLane: The #Eagles have signed WR Steve smith to a one year contract, per a league source.
Wow... let's start playing some games so I can lose Â
you're beating the war drums when people are still in shock. We get it, u think Smith is Chris Calloway part 2. I think you're wrong about Smith's value to the Giants but you have a right to your opinion.
Nicks may be better/more talnented. But Maningham (see fumble that started the avalanch in Eagles game) last year has talent but not even half football smarts Smith has. THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't think hes calloway part 2, hes a nice player, i don't want to get into all the various criticisms of his game because ive done it before and it would just get lost in this soon to be 8000 post thread anyway
get back to me on Mario by seasons end. Lets also forget that he spent the better part of that day raping the Eagles before that fumble, scored twice, got deep on their secondary routinely and was missed a couple times by Eli for some potential huge gainers
Hes going to break out this season. The light is ready to come on
they're gambling. it's a good complimentary part for them if they can get him on the field. they have burners but they don't work the middle of the field that well.
if they can't get him on the field, they're not stuck with him for 3 more years afterwards.
are going to have a shit load of egg on their face ifhe ever comes back healrhy. People can sugar coat things any way they want, but they have done absolutely nothing to get better
I will admit, though, I'm a little perplexed as to where the possesion Â
type guy is coming from, the guy who can get open in the middle of the field, get down and not get hit, so he can keep doing it. I don't know if Nicks can do it without taking abuse.
Manningham's light about to come on doesn't discount Smith's importance to the offense or the need for a 3rd WR to step up and convert the 3rd and 7's that keep drives alive and win games.
What the hell does Manningham have to do with Smith or whoever is the 3rd WR this year?
By about week 3 or 4 most of the Mario myths around here will be well dispelled. For people paying attention, they saw the difference as the season wore on last year. Hes got more of a comfort level in the offense and with Eli now
He and Nicks are going to unleash a brutal pillaging on opposing secondaries this season the likes of which we have never seen before on this team.
Don't care how many times i say it. And this is not after the fact homer talk and sour grapes on him because he signed with Philly. I was yelling this even when it appeared Smith could be back this year.
I applaud the Giants for holding firm here with him
MikeGarafolo
And if we're giving proper credit, btw, the Smith signing was first posted on @BigBlueInteract. They were all over it. #nyg
less than 1 minute ago from web
I think alot of Giants fans for some reason will always shit on Mario. Whether he be how he talks in interviews, his wonderlic score, or his 1 fumble in a game where they came right back to get another TD after, some people are just stupid on here. Im biased because Im a huge Michigan fan but I'd take Mario over steve 100% of the time.
I agree with you. This team is has done little to get better from last year.IMO we are worse off then we were a year ago at this time. Reese is reminding me of George Young when he let all our free agents leave. Show me another team in the NFL who has lost three startes who were less then 27 years old to free agency?
to step up, but there's no reason why it can't happen. We just spent a high draft pick on a guy who does a similar thing that Smith does. Get him on the field.
Jerry Reese you better know what the heck you are doing. This is a sad day. A very sad day. No positive spin. This was a no brainer for eagles, if he can't contribute no big deal, if he can they hit the jackpot with him.
in multiple WR in recent years, Cruz also continues to impress in camp. At some point these guys need to get a chance to sink or swim. The depth will work itself out, and these guys are no more of a question mark than Steve Smith coming off this surgery
Between Cruz, Beckum, Hixon, Barden...there are guys that simply are too good to be not getting snaps. Not brining back Smitty was not a bad move, especially considering the injury. That being said, him going to the Eagles fucking sucks. There's no way to spin it.
from my standpoint, is that another 07 Giant bites the dust. You watch those playoff games on DVD, it always strikes you how fast roster turnover occurs in the NFL. And we lost a bunch more this offseason. But thats just the business of football
I liked what I saw in his cup of coffee last year, but right now he's more prepared to be in next year's Tour de France than to play football.
I'm sure someone will fill that void, I just hope it's not Nicks because he doesn't know better and will try to fight through guys in the middle of the field
this whole situation shook out. Were the gmen playing games with Smith? Are they really concerned long term? Did SS just pick up and leave behind our backs?
Will have to learn a new offense and do so with limited practice time. Will not start. Will play with a QB who while improved is not conducive to producing big numbers from his wideouts. Will likely not play all 16 games
Does he expect that when he hits the market after this season that he will have shown enough in Philly to warrant a big deal? If i was him i would have gone to a different situation if one was available, and wanted a little more security than just one season. Id have signed a 2 year contract
One, they signed a valuable from the division rival..regardless of what he does this year, it's a long term plan. if he plays and gets health, then they can resign him for a longer term
This is in fact a win-win for the eagles, as much as it sucks..
We'll find out in time. I think when the dust settles we'll look back at the hysteria of today and remember it as one of the most over reactionary days in the history of BBI
?? never heard that before.
Thanks Darasman. But, again, was not news I would have ever wanted to tell. Smith and Eli were my favorite Giants. Eli still is, and I don't care if this is a business (which I know it is), Smith is nothing to me now. I understand he has to do what is best for him and his family, but that does not mean I have to cheer for it or him. I root for the blue jersey. You are either in it or not.
On BBI, asshat is used as a term to mean 1) a person who has inside information and is reporting it to us (the term is used endearingly), and 2) a person who is making believe that they have inside information (the term used critically).
In general internet lingo, an asshat is a person who is so clueless that they wear their own ass as a hat (they've got their head up their ass).
But since this lurker was causing everyone mass anxiety, i at least wanted people to know what was going on. Also, as i said in the thread, thought my source could be messing with me, but i knew i couldnt burn him by asking mike and ralph, wanted someone else do that for me.
is that it? Is that the bad news?
Now watch something happen...
And good news got deleted.
Bad news, however, lives on.
Ain't that America...for you 'n me?

Strange thread to troll with, so something tells me BBI better brace itself.
break the other ankle......dammit.
That would be bad news...that would really, really suck.
Isn't that Simms guy a Simo?
There's no such thing as the Vulcan Death Grip.
But, the Romulans don't know that.
*yawn*
However, we had many opportunities to resign him. We wouldn't let him walk without a reason.
a. he signed with the Eagles
b. we'll have to listen to the chicken little's on BBI about it for the next month or so.
Yes I know it's a business and he has to look out for himself, that being said FUCK THE EAGLES!
But there's a reason we haven't re-signed him. He wants to be here, we wanted him here.
But going by the fact that he was thoroughly examined by doctors yesterday, and TC's words on it today, well...
Put two and two together.
I'll miss the SS I knew and grew to love. If the Giants let him go, then they obviously feel whenever or if he recovers, he won't deserve the big bucks..
We certainly can win without him, but we must lock up MM
We disagree on several things but he is certainly not a troll or pot stirrer by any stretch of the imagination.
I'm all for rumors, they're the life blood of BBI.
I am seriously sick of worrying about what moves they make....History has proven we know a whole lot more on how to run a successful franchise...I still say this is the year we break the trend with them...no matter what happens..
Smith in a Philly uniform would kill me, but if the Eagles want to sign somebody who can't even pass a physical, they should feel obliged.
I for one would be sick to my fucking stomach if he went to the Eagles.
If he went anywhere other than the Eales I don't think it would bother me all that much just because I've convinced myself he isn't going to play this season.
Goes to show you more and more its a business for the players as much as it is for the teams/owners/GMs
looks even worse than Smith playing for the Eagles.
If he does leave, so be it. The Giants aren't losing '07-'10 Steve Smith, they'd be losing a guy who's entire game is based on quick cuts/movement who may never be the same player.

@tspicchiali Trying to find out for myself what's going on
Aug 10, 6:20 PM via web
I'm gonna wait this one out.
You have to be on the email list, but he may have visited with the Eagles.
Maybe....
it means they're taking a cheap flyer on something that would be a good complimentary part for them, if he can play.
IF.
if they signed him to a long-term deal, they're on crack.
More likely, no matter where he ends up, he won't be on the field until at least midseason because his knee is actually f'd like everyone says it is.
Its part of the game. They can't all be Strahan.
I guess we'll see.
Sucks if he signs with the Eagles, but if they offer more, can you blame him?
This could all just be a tactic to push the Giants toward upping their offer, whatever it was.

I'd be stunned if SS were all of a sudden an eagle tonight.
Nothing like trying to make a point...you're being ridiculous.
If the Giants don't think Smith is healthy enough to sign yet, why wouldn't Smith take a one year contract with a few million guarenteed to play with the Eagles in 2011 and then become a Unrestricted Free Agent next offseason when healthier to sign a long term contract in 2012.

OUR guys don't get the system sometimes. obviously Smith is a genius with it, but that doesn't mean it's going to translate to the defensive players.
option route madness isn't the same as "hey, they like to go off tackle when they look like that."
Eagles just signed WR Steve Smith (the USC one)

He is going to be signed Day 1 ..

But just watch the passing game this year.
if they get him out there healthy, and he produces, yes, it sucks.
if he doesn't get healthy he wasn't getting healthy here, either. hell, here, he'd probably end up an amputee. lol.
when they bring him in to be looked at (which you would think would be a precursor to a signing), and they don't sign him....
