Good luck trying to sell that here... Jets rhyme with Mets, Jets suck, Mets suck, Jets fan = Mets fans... BBI logic...
As a fellow Mets fan, I can sympathize... Do Mets fans get "tired"of seeing the Yankees go to the playoffs every single year? Of course... Yet there really is no reason to disparage the Yankee organization and its fans just because the one you root for is an absolute mess... As a Knicks fan it is no different... Are there bandwagon Yankee fans? Yup, it comes with long term success... But there are far more die hard Yankee fans that just happen to be fortunate to root for a great team...
Last night, I profusely thanked my 73 year old father for raising us Giants fans... Especially for those of us who didn't have to endure the 1960s and 1970s, we are VERY fortunate...
The past 2 years were treacherous.. Jet fans getting so carried away thinking that they all of a sudden "owned NY" because they got to 2 AFC title games and lost in years where we didn't make the playoffs. Well, we're back in the Super Bowl for the 2nd time in 5 seasons and if we win it again... most of us will have witnessed our team hoist the trophy 4 times while most Jet fans I know weren't even alive yet when the Jets got their one SB over forty years ago.
The Giants are the football kings of this city and always have been.
On the line for both teams, in front of their home fans. Went to a Conference Championship game, which they couldn't shut the fuck up about for the last two years, then won the damn thing.
There's nothing they can say. Better get back on Hard Knocks to up the local profile Rex.
many of them are making rational points, and honestly, they sound less like fanboys than this thread. Maybe all the Rex bullshit has really gotten to our collective heads. I can't wait until he leaves and I can start rooting for the Jets again as my B team.
I was not implying that you did... I was referring to the Jets fans who disparage Giants fans because their organization stnks and relating to my personal rooting interest in the Mets...
The Bang Cartoon guys did a great job on the Jets Â
Despite being "little brother" in both sports, the Mets are far different historically than the Jets...
The Mets can actually claim a period of dominance in their history (but one they failed to take advantage of, from 1985-1989). In that five year stretch, they won a WS (1986), were the best team in baseball in '88 but got beat by the best pitcher (Hershiser) and succumbed to their own demons (1987).
The Mets can actually claim that they owned the town for two decent-sized periods (from 1969-1975 and from 1984-1990)
At no point in the Jets history were they perennial threats to win a Super Bowl for 5-6 years in a row, the same way the Mets were in the late 1980s.
Despite the fact they're a joke now, the Mets historically aren't abject failures, like the Cubs...
do not associate the Football Giants so casually with the Baseball Yankees. Did the Yankees ever win anything as underdogs the way that the 90 and 07 Giants came from nowhere to do. I don't think so. If the 11-12 Giants win, it will be a lot more like the down three teams that have come through, than the money player fattened Yankees. Not that anyone would deny the history and tradition of the Yankees, nor question their tradition of excellence. But the Giant have come to where they are by a different route.
But to be fair, most of the posters on that thread admitted that they had this coming to them. Their coach talked shit for years on us, really totally unprovoked, and then we ended their season and went on to the Superbowl to face their biggest rival. There were a handful of idiot posters on that thread but most admitted it was time to eat some crow.
But yeah, in general, Jets fans are just terrible. I used to live in Long Island and was surrounded by them. I hate the way they watch football. My best friend is a die hard Jets fan, and knows as much football as anyone I've ever met. A truly dedicated, knowledgeable fan who can see their weaknesses for what they are as well as their strengths. He has realistic expectations, knows when to remain hopeful and just in general knows the game of football and is a pleasure to discuss it with (whether it's Jets, Giants, or any other team).
But when you watch a game with him? It can be a 3-0 Dolphins over the Jets with 4 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. The Jets will carry the ball for 6 yards, turning a 1rst and 10 to a 2nd and 4 at their own 31, and I hear "YEAH!!!! YEAHH!!! ALRIGHT!! LET'S GO!!!"
It might sound nit-picky, but I feel like their fans just have no context once the game starts. They're so hard for a winner that even the most marginal sign of success is a life-altering football moment. Maybe I'm wrong in characterizing Jets fans like this (I've read about many posters here who can't keep their cool at all during the games) but it just screams ignorance to me... and the bitch of it is my buddy is NOT ignorant. He probably knows a little more about football (at least around the league) than I do. But during a game, it's as if he (and the rest of them) can't tell the difference in significance between a 6 yard run and an 80 yard game winning touchdown pass. It's SO annoying!
I mean *****4 minutes remaining in the FIRST quarter***** Â
Were there some idiotic ones? Yeah, but we have those also. I do feel the comment about us playing in a "weak division" was really fucking dumb taking into account we beat all 4 teams in the AFC East as mentioned above.
I really like Nick Mangold. I think he is a great center. Also he is an articulate interview and seems like a good guy. I am disappointed in Mangold's comments about the Giants and Patriots in this interview, if you have a moment, skim through and give it a listen. Mangold comes across as childish and jealous. He wants a 10 - 10 tie in the game because either team winning would be the worst scenario. I wish Kay and Lagrecca would have asked tougher questions like "wasn't it your coach that created this with the Giants?". Or ask about covering the trophies on Christmas eve. January 27, Michael Kay show - ( New Window )
That was one specific topic...did you get a chance to listen? What did you think of Mangold and the topic in general? Did it sound like Mangold is bitter and that's fine. I think you can answer with a bit more dignity and class.
I can't stand the Jets, but wow. The Pro Bowl is an honor for those players, and it certainly isn't something to shit all over.
I wouldn't mind if my company sent me to Hawaii because I was one of the very best at what I do. I guess Steve Serby doesn't have to worry about that ever happening to him.

Giants fan on the radio just said the Jets run their mouths and the Giants run the town. They actually think the Jets fans are classless and obnoxious. How much more annoying can these midgets fans be? Not the smartest fan base in the NFL.
BONUS Alert : Nothing like the Gmen’s success to help force our front office try to over achieve
Go JETS
Don't sit there and have your coach talk it up while filming his hairy ass wife's feet, use it for motivation and actually for once walk the walk. They brought the misery on themselves with all the huffing and puffing, take it like a man and stop fucking whining because we happen to be proving it on the field.
but Nick Mangold and Brandon Moore have not been a part of that, and it just seems unfair to me to put their picture in Hawaii on the back page and call them losers.
Now, if Rex were coaching at the Pro Bowl, putting him on this kind of back page cover would be fitting, I think.
to be a Jets fan. I work with one, and he is dreading this superbowl, I just laugh because all the Jets do is talk shit and they consistantly put their own feet in their mouths.
Best thing is Rex saying "We're tired of being the little brothers to the Giants, yadayadayada...". But what a way to eat your own words, We're the only team that can beat the team that bullies them so badly, just like an older brother sticking up to his little brothers bully. If we win this one too, Rex just seems even more pathetic than he already is.
I feel for the Jets fans. They have been a team for 52 years and only have one championship season in 1968 (they won the AFL title and the Super Bowl).
The Giants have played for 87 seasons, and have seven championship seasons and are playing for their eighth next Sunday. And they went to six other championship games. So in 87 seasons, they have played for the championship 14 times. The Giants have been very successful (except for that 60s-70s slump).
And then the Jets finally start to gain momentum with two straight conference championship games, advancing further than the Patriots both years and while the Giants missed the playoff both years. Yet, it all came crashing down when the following year (this year), both the Giants and the Patriots (their divisional and city rivals) are playing for the championship and the Jets are sitting at home specifically because they lost in Week 16 to the Giants in a game that turned on one play-- a 99-yard Victor Cruz touch down.
What makes it worse is that it wasn't as if the Giants were a dominant team all season. They won in the final week at 9-7 and are now on an awesome run. So in the Jets minds (and a bunch of other low-win playoff contenders, the thought process is "that could have been us. We could have gotten hot and made a run."
And on top of all of that, I bet that Jets fans are predominantly Mets fans, who not only have suffered because Mets failures over the years, but also have to deal with the Yankees, who are arguably the most successful franchise in sports.
It has to absolutely suck being a NY sports fans if you were raised to root for the Jets/Mets/Knicks/Rangers.
..I have no problems with the Yankees and rooted for them against the Phillies. I wouldn't call it jealousy. I sure wish the Mets could win a world series and if there is ever a year they have more success than the Yankees, I'm certainly not naive enough to think its a Mets town. How could the Jets be "annoyed" at the Giants success. I think the smart thing to do is to be humble and tamper the talks. I actually remember Woody took out a page in the daily news and congratulated the Giants in 2007 and I thought that was so classy.
Oh well, Nick Mangold. I'm just a Giants fan who is part of this apparently "not the smartest fanbase". I guess they got me because I'm a Giants fan writing about the Jets . I guess Mangold annoyed me because I liked him as a player and thought he was a person who conducted himself professionally. He is being a pouty baby who says is covering his ears and holding his breath because he came up short.
Yea,
Bloody Lethal : 1:26 am
and calling the Pats the Gaytriots makes you come off as mature and virtuous!
>>>> Yeah well I call 'em like I see 'em. If there's any franchise that has the Most obnoxious fans, it's the Patriots.
And again, I say that focusing on the Jets and their fans just gives THEM ammo to say "oh look! They're still thinking about us even though they're getting ready for a SuperBowl." IGNORE THEM! THEY DON'T EXIST ANYMORE!
The only thing that exists now is the VLT sitting right in front of the Giants just waiting to be taken.....
What exactly do fans do to get ready for a super bowl Â
Should we be practicing our cheers? Game planning how we're going to lay out the chips and dip?
Not really. I'm just saying that giving Jets fans any sort of attention just makes it look like we still worry about what they think when they should be in the rear-view mirror....long-forgotten.
So you have no problem as a Giant fan with this big mouth head coach and fan base running their mouths. For 3 years you mean to tell me it did not bother you.. Give me a fucking break. It bothered almost every Giants fan out theirs. An now that we are still the kings of this city it still bothers us that these Jet fans talk. That's why winning this super bowl will be the sweetest thing since beating the Mets in the world series, 2 hating fan bases who always talk shit. Sorry but fuck the haters
I've spent the last week snapping 3lbs of Tostidos chips into bite sized pieces.
I'd hate to have to explain, "Sorry for not being prepared, I spent a lot of time discussing the direction of NYJ football during the week," all while my idiot Eagles fan brother in law is trying to figure out how to jam a 3" chip into the queso dip jar.
I guess I can pour the queso dip int a jar for him.....but it's better than the commercials and I'm kind of torn.
What if Eli plays like azz while Brady and the Patsies roll to a victory over the Giants?
That would be so damn crushing.....
Plus, that would also make all that "motivation" garnered from shutting Rex Ryan up...worthless 'cause they would've lost in the game that mattered. NFL Fans don't remember the Runner's up in the SB. Only the winners.
The Runners up are only the last Losers.
And I pray we aren't 'cause if we are, it's going to be a LOOOOONG offseason(and you can bet the Jets fans will come in droves as a result).
The Jets haven't even PLAYED in a Super Bowl since 1969. Â

Reese and the Giants stayed focused, quiet and built from within, and now are back in the Superbowl.
You don't win with bravado...you win with talent, coaching and management.

Shouldn't they be focused on getting ready for the Gaytriots and their obnoxious rainbow-loving fans?
I mean at this point, worrying about what the Jets fans say is like beating a dead horse. It's over, Johnny. lol.
And please don't copy and paste posts from Jets Insider. It really makes you look pathetic and wanting for some attention.
