Official "What the hell is Tyree doing out there" thread.

Maryland Giant : 1/31/2012 3:18 pm
Who can forget Anakim's classic post during the SB XLII game thread just moments before David Tyree made the greatest catch in NFL history?

What poster will have the dubious honor of authoring such an ill-timed, poorly-crafted, and totally ironic post in this Super Bowl's game thread, and what heretofore irrelevant Giant will step up and make the huge play that earns that poster a place of dishonor in the BBI Hall of Shame?

Any predictions?

the game thread thing. The few times I've checked it out it seems like one big circle-jerk. How the hell do you really focus on the game while typing stupid shit on a message board?

Is it really that hard to understand? Do you ever have conversations with other fans during a game? It's not that tough to imagine doing that online, is it? People watch the way they wanna watch. Are you trying to insinuate that there's something nerdish or psychotic about game threads? Cuz that would seem to be a real stretch to me...
Mark
Maryland Giant : 1/31/2012 4:03 pm : link
The game threads ARE nerdish and psychotic. There can be no doubt about that.

That's what makes them so fun to read after the game.

And it's one of the great moments in Giants history.

Anak pulls a reverse Babe Ruth and (doesn't) call the shot. - ( New Window )
I will always contend
Exit 172 : 1/31/2012 4:18 pm : link
that Anakim's 9:51pm post during the Super Bowl 42 thread is THE single-greatest post in BBI history.

And I don't know how it will ever be topped. It was just another piece of the magical run we were all on.
Exit...agreed
Maryland Giant : 1/31/2012 4:20 pm : link
Anak threw that quote out there and it kind of stuck to his helmet.

It was a great post and a great moment.

As I said when I implied when I started this thread, it will be fun to read those threads after the Giants beat the Patriots this coming Sunday and see who becomes 2011's version of Anak in 2007.
Anak takes a lot of crap....

Anak reverse-jinxed Tyree into making that catch,
Obviously
Anakim : 1/31/2012 4:39 pm : link
I've actually defended myself pretty well because people took it out of context. Whatever. People like to romanticize things, but it was taken completely out of context. I was talking about the play before where David Tyree had a major brainfart and Asante Samuel should have and nearly had an interception. He makes that play 9 times out of 10 and if he did, game over. We don't win the Super Bowl. Nor did I want Tyree out of the game considering he had a TD reception earlier in the game.

But whatever. In the end, I'll gladly take the flack, unfair as it may be, since we did end up winning the Super Bowl
Anak
Maryland Giant : 1/31/2012 4:42 pm : link
Embrace it. You are part of Giants lore for many of us.

As with most things in life, timing is everything.

You can be a pessimist and say that timing resulted in you being treated unfairly, but in my opinion that would be looking at it all wrong.

Your timing was perfect. You made the comment a single play before Tyree made that catch and he and you became legendary.

Well done friend, and I can only hope you outdo yourself this coming Sunday.

Godspeed.
No, I understand that and I accept it
Anakim : 1/31/2012 4:44 pm : link
But that wasn't the original intention and I'm sure that I wasn't the only one pissed off that Tyree ran the wrong route, which nearly led to a game-ending INT for Samuel. I know Eli was pissed because he was yelling at Tyree after that play as well.
Well
Peter in the Catskills : 1/31/2012 4:45 pm : link
you don't sound like you accept it :)
Eli yelled at Tyree,
Exit 172 : 1/31/2012 4:46 pm : link
"TYREE, WHY WERE YOU THERE??? WHAT THE FUCK!!!"

That encounter in the NYC watch store really made an impression on Eli.
i agree
Bill2 : 1/31/2012 4:48 pm : link
With Exit

That was an incredibly memorable post

Not because of.Anak. under the tension of the moment it was very understandable

Being down to fighting to win with Tyree a special teams player and 6th wr it was a legit outburst

Its the timing and the incredible outcome which immediately follows whi h makes it unforgettable.

The fact that Anakim at the time was amazingly unlucky as a poster only adds to it. But I point out that the average fan who did not follow the team would never have noticed. Anakim may be many.things but he is a serious and good sports fan
Peter
Anakim : 1/31/2012 4:48 pm : link
Well, I accept that it will hang over me for as long as I'm on BBI even though what was said was misinterpreted.

Whatever though. I don't think I'm thought of any less because of that post anyway.
Bill2 -
Exit 172 : 1/31/2012 4:52 pm : link
It has that "the last moment before everything changed" quality about it.

We were all about to witness the Greatest Play in Super Bowl History, and not a single one of us can claim to have had any idea it was coming. Anakim's post right before it specifically naming Tyree in disgust just underscores that ignorance we all had.
Talk about looking for hidden, subliminal meaning
Anakim : 1/31/2012 4:54 pm : link
in something that completely lacks it. Tyree fucked up the route, the game nearly ended, I said what everyone was thinking, including Eli. Why the hell did Tyree run the wrong route so late in the fucking game? That play would have cost us the game.
It's OK, Anakim.
Exit 172 : 1/31/2012 5:00 pm : link
The Chosen One usually rejects the calling.

This has been preordained for you since 1925. Tim Mara had foreseen it.
I would accept it more if I got some incentive

mfsd : 1/31/2012 5:02 pm : link
i agree, you should embrace it, it's become a legendary BBI moment.

And it's part of the mythology of that play now!! I mean, Tyree?!?!?! I still get goosebumps when I remember screaming and high fiving my buddies after that one

I mean it was 4 years ago...and I still don't know how he caught it and held on! Or how Eli got away!!

Any one of a thousand of us probably thought the same thing. Just shows we really don't know what the hell we are talking about. Part of the fun of being a football fan, IMO.
Um...
manh george : 1/31/2012 6:03 pm : link
just because he made the greatest catch in SB history, doesn't mean that he didn't suck as a wr. It's not difficult to understand the frustration at seeing him in the game at wr for several plays in a row. He was a superior ST player with very minimal receiving skills, who pulled one out of his ass that will be remembered as long as football is played.
Why the hell is Ryan Perrilloux out there!!!!!!

Anak, I don't think people are "making fun of you" in the malicious way they usually do. It's more of a teasing remark - there's no malice intended.

When I saw that post after the game I grinned, finding it hilarious in hindsight - but I didn't grin thinking you were a fucking moron for it.

I've got plenty of other reasons to think you're a moron. ;)
Beckum ....
djm : 1/31/2012 6:45 pm : link
I actually believe Beckum will have a pretty good game on sunday. He's been getting touches the last 4-5-6 weeks so not a stretch to expect 3-4 catches. Maybe even some big catches.
I still have Davisian's post game post on the play. Still funny.

The "OMG I was like "Oh shit, he's gonna get sacked, we're gonna lose," but then Eli was all "nuh-uh, I'm gettin outta here" but the Pats guys were like "well, I'm grabbin some Jersey" but Eli was like "you can't stop me with a jersey pull" and then I was like "holy shit, he got away" but then it looked like Vrabel was going to KILL him, so I was all "Throw the ball Eli!" but then I thought about the possibility of a pick, so I was like "But don't throw a pick." Then he heaved it and I was like "Please let a Giant catch the ball" and I saw Tyree and Harrison and I was like "Oh FUCK its Tyree" but Tyree was all "Fuck yo Mama, I'm makin this catch" and Harrisonw as like "fuck no you ain't" but Tyree was like "Bitch safety getting pwned sez what?" and Harrison was like "Take THAT and THAT, but Tyree was all "That didn't hurt, I can do it with one hand and my head fool" and he held on an I was all "WOOOOOHOOOO! FUCKIN A" and the Patriots were all "Dude.. that sucked.." and the Giants were all "KUNG FUUU!" and all sorts of reactions and shit, and even though I was drunk as shit, I'll never forget it.."
Would people care

any sane person would simply ignore you, you would get bored with posting it, and the thread would continue. However, the idiots around here would spend the entire game arguing with you to STFU. Unfortunately, simplicity is lost on simpletons (speaking, of course, in a generic sense).
So I would be another version of

After I was done celebrating with my buddies, reading Anak's post was the perfect way to end that night.
Davisian's post was

spectacular.

Hadn't Tyree already caught a TD?
