Do we bring back Shockey or Shiancoe?

bigbluewreckingcrew25 : 2/25/2012 7:28 pm
Obviously we need to sign and/or draft a tight end. The pickings are slim in the free agent market, but two of the top 5 guys available are former Giants. Things didn't end well here for Shockey, but maybe time and the knowledge he's not an
elite player have healed all wounds. He didn't have a terrible year last year.
I can't see
MookGiants : 2/25/2012 7:29 pm : link
them bringing back Shockey. I don't think he and Eli ever were on the same page
Plaxico would have a better shot at signing here than Jeremy

Shockey is never going to be...
Dunedin81 : 2/25/2012 7:31 pm : link
an under the radar guy, even if he's a 30/400 guy in this offense. I just don't see it.
If the price is right
Nick from Goa : 2/25/2012 7:31 pm : link
I'd definitely bring back Shiancoe

Shockey sucks now...
Bringing back Shockey would make zero sense.
arcarsenal : 2/25/2012 7:32 pm : link

Shiancoe maybe...
Dunedin81 : 2/25/2012 7:33 pm : link
Rudolph put him on the bench by the end of the season.

The Shockey boat has sailed.
I'd bring back Bavaro before I brought Shockey back.

No to both
Eggs55 : 2/25/2012 7:41 pm : link
only Scott Chandler could I see returning.

I really feel we take Fleener at 32 though (I hope we trade down and pick him)
Forget Shockey
TMS : 2/25/2012 7:43 pm : link
ELI wants a precise route runner who knows how to get open and provide a late target when he is in trouble. Like Ballard and Boss did and Witten does for Romo. Thtats not Shockey. Not sure it is Shiancoe either.
shockey/ballard
enjayray : 2/25/2012 7:44 pm : link
same number of catches and tds

and shockey was a backup
Just imagine it
bigbluewreckingcrew25 : 2/25/2012 7:45 pm : link
Home opener....pomp and circumstance. The Giants win the coin toss and march down the field. Its first and goal on the 6. Eli drops backs and zips a ball over the middle to Shockey for the touchdown. Shockey gets up and spikes the ball in the defender's face....15 yard penalty for taunting. It would be great!
Ballard stretched the field...
Dunedin81 : 2/25/2012 7:46 pm : link
he was hurt for some of the year and he took a couple weeks to click.
sorry
enjayray : 2/25/2012 7:47 pm : link
ballard had 1 more catch
More like "Eli zips a ball over the middle. Shockey runs a piss poor
Riggies : 2/25/2012 7:49 pm : link
route. Interception!"

It's amazing to me the sentimentality that this guy still generates with some of you. He doesn't deserve a fraction of it.
I don't know
dan518 : 2/25/2012 7:51 pm : link
about shockey. Didn't Eli have a hard time with him? I wouldn't want anything to ruin Eli's confidence. Now if we could get Fleener, that would be very nice! Probably won't be there for our pick.
I swear some of you
Wuphat : 2/25/2012 7:53 pm : link
didn't watch the Giants when Shockey was here with Eli.

No fucking way.
...
enjayray : 2/25/2012 7:53 pm : link
we should all hate him and completely disregard the fact that he was the best te we've had since bavaro

Jeremy Shockey's athletic ability then..
arcarsenal : 2/25/2012 7:56 pm : link
..and Jeremy Shockey's athletic ability now are two completely different things.

I swear, some people don't care how much of a douche a player is.. if they're enamored with something they did as a Giant, they'll always want them back.
He's not worth hating.
Riggies : 2/25/2012 7:57 pm : link
He's also not worth fanboying over either (or making really dumb comparisons between his and Ballard's season, given that Ballard played in games/on fewer snaps and had 143 more yards on 1 more catch).

For all the shit Tiki still gets, Shockey did the Giants even worse and, somehow, Giant fans still back him. It's bizarre.
I don't hate him
Wuphat : 2/25/2012 7:59 pm : link
I just recognize that he and Eli do not work well together, and Eli isn't going anywhere.

And he's done as a player.

He may hang on for a couple more years, but he's done.
It's a shame about Shockey...
Milton : 2/25/2012 7:59 pm : link
If the maturity light bulb were to suddenly go on for him, I would want him back just for his blocking. He's been the best blocking TE we've had since Campbell. He just got stuck in puberty and never fucking grew up.
We've got a better chance of seeing God play
Sneakers O'toole : 2/25/2012 8:07 pm : link
for the Giants than Shockey. I would be open to at least considering Shanc, although I think it's unlikely they go after him either.
Shiancoe was a bit of a dick...
Dunedin81 : 2/25/2012 8:09 pm : link
about the Giants after he went to Minnesota, IIRC. Might be water under the bridge, might not.
Shiancoe
Power Wins Football Games : 2/25/2012 8:11 pm : link
is better at this point in time
I don't think he liked playing
Sneakers O'toole : 2/25/2012 8:12 pm : link
second fiddle to Shockey and made some statements about that, is that what you are referring to?
Yeah something along those lines...
Dunedin81 : 2/25/2012 8:14 pm : link
might not have been a big deal, but it's annoying when ex-players have to bitch about the team they're leaving.
Eli zips a ball over the middle...Shockey screws up the route...
Klaatu : 2/25/2012 8:14 pm : link
Ball bounces harmlessly on the turf. As the Giants punt team takes the field, Shockey follows Eli to the sidelines, yelling, screaming, throwing his hands up in the air...Eli just walks away.

Shockey's still yellling, takes his helmet off, follows Eli over to the Gatorade...gets in his face...

Wait...who's that coming down from the stands? It's a woman...and she's climbing down onto the field! It's Eli's mother, Olivia Manning! And she's pissed! She takes something out of her handbag and points it at Shockey. It's a Taser X26C! The one Archie gave her for Christmas!

Shockey sees her now, tries to run away, but it's too late. Two wired probes hit him smack in the ass, followed by 50,000 volts.

"Down goes Shockey! Down goes Shockey," yells Bob Papa.

"He asked for it, Bob," says Carl Banks. "He's had that coming for a long time."

Now, THAT would be great!
That was awesome Klaatu!!!!

Shockey was a great draft choice

Sir Army Suit..
John Carlson would be the best option IMO
sexymoves : 2/25/2012 8:44 pm : link
If the terms are favorable.
sexy
Milton : 2/25/2012 8:57 pm : link
The problem with Carlson is injury concerns. He missed all of last year and has been banged up before. TE is a rough and tumble position. Can they count on him come playoff time?

If he can come cheaply enough, he might be a good signing coupled with a premium draft pick like Fleener. But I'd be nervous about putting all my eggs in the Carlson basket.

Could get his number 82 back after Manningham signs with the Bears.
BBD
Milton : 2/25/2012 10:23 pm : link
2010 was an injury plagued year for him even if he only missed one game. That's why his numbers were so down. And then he missed all of 2011 with a torn labrum. So it gets you wondering, especially with a shoulder (for a TE).
The thing I liked about Shockey
oipolloi : 2/25/2012 10:30 pm : link
is he didn't take scheit from kids in the stands
Fleener
Eggs55 : 2/25/2012 10:52 pm : link
could wear 82 after Mario leaves as well..
Shockey
Flanker7 : 2/25/2012 10:54 pm : link
spent the last 2 years of his Giants career catching balls and immediately falling down. It was seriously fucking impressive.

Don't want anything to do with him.
Highly Unlikely
Pat from Inside Football : 2/26/2012 9:22 am : link
Shockey burned his bridges here. Shank, from what I remember, couldn't wait to leave because he wasn't happy with how he was being used. The WRs are more of a focal point in this offense whereas the TE usually doesn't get as many passes thrown his way as the receiver because his primary job is to block. So they would need a guy who would be just as comfortable doing the dirty work as he'd be catching passes.
Just what we need, a TE who will catch 20 passes for 350 yds ,
PatersonPlank : 2/26/2012 9:30 am : link
be a locker room cancer and give Eli a hard time. Pass on the washed up Shockey.

if you were talking about shank of 5 years ago, fine. He's gonna be 32 and his big payday is gone. Very few will sign him for much more than we would, imo..He will not be featured in any team's offense, so doing the work of Ballard would be a good fit for him..Now if he was TG, that's another story, even as old as he is..
Shockey offers no improvement over current TE's
GiantJohn : 2/26/2012 10:57 am : link
Then consider his attitude before he left. Giants and Shockey are finished with each other.
