Pauline: teams expect Brandon Carr to sign with Dallas

Dubs : 2/26/2012 10:05 pm
Well, this would seriously suck:

Quote:
Teams in Indianapolis fully Brandon Carr will end up a member of the Dallas Cowboys via free agency..

Carr is a stud, and it raises another question mark about Pioli that he essentially chose to go with Routt instead of him.

Carr is solid
Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 10:08 pm : link
I wouldn't call him a stud. Brandon Flowers was the better cornerback on KC. Let's see the contract before we praise Dallas.
They need more help
Stagger Lee : 2/26/2012 10:09 pm : link
in the secondary than that.
Dallas needs a lot more than Brandon Carr to fix that secondary.
arcarsenal : 2/26/2012 10:09 pm : link
.
Routt was signed
Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 10:10 pm : link
as security in case Carr left in free agency.
Obviously the contract matters, but it's not about praising Dallas...
Dubs : 2/26/2012 10:10 pm : link
as much as it is not really wanting to see them get a very talented player in their secondary.

Dubs : 2/26/2012 10:11 pm : link
That doesn't really compute. Once they signed Routt it was essentially impossible for them to retain Carr without letting Bowe walk.

no it wasn't they still had money to re-sign Carr. They had a money figure in mind of his worth and they knew another team would probably over pay for him so they brought in Routt who should compliment Flowers and Arenas well. Keep in mind Berry is coming back which will dramatically improve the secondary.
I will be the first to admit
Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 10:15 pm : link
that I do not want to see Dallas upgrade their secondary but is Carr a #1 CB as his contract will most likely suggest? No he is not and they are paying Scandrick almost 7 million a year as well.
Jay
Dubs : 2/26/2012 10:15 pm : link
They couldn't resign Carr unless he took a pretty serious hometown discount.
...
Dubs : 2/26/2012 10:15 pm : link
I think Carr can absolutely be a #1 CB. That Flowers is better isn't a knock on Carr, because Flowers is really, really freaking good.

I respect your opinion but the truth of the matter is we do not know how Carr will fare going up against the #1 receivers in the league. He was playing in the NFC west and now he has to play in the NFC East where he will be facing Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, DeSean Jackson, and Jeremy Maclin.

enjayray : 2/26/2012 10:23 pm : link
god i'm psyched for the free agency meltdown in a few weeks

It has to be a bit of a yellow flag that the Chiefs would let him walk
Bino5 : 2/26/2012 10:31 pm : link
they can say they are still interested in signing him, but signing Routt says otherwise. It could very well be they had some talks with his agent and think he is asking for too much, but it is an odd situation.
Seems like they wanna sign
ShOcKwAvE 80 : 2/26/2012 10:31 pm : link
Carl Nicks as well. They have tons of cap space this year.

Cam in MO : 2/26/2012 10:34 pm : link
KC is somewhere around 30million under the cap without the "rollover" from how much they were under last year.

They absolutely could retain both Carr and Bowe with no problem.

The thing is, they aren't going to get close to the cap until they are forced to via the floor...which I think is enforced next year.

Lets see how he does
giantsfan44ab : 2/26/2012 10:36 pm : link
He is a great CB and could pontentially be the best one in the division. Its hard to gauge him though since he usually wasn't the one covering Bowe and Vjax in the division.
Jay I think
beatrixkiddo : 2/26/2012 10:38 pm : link
you mean the AFC West, though not really any better than the NFC West.

Carr to Dallas would suck, he's a very good CB, not somewhere I want to see him go. Carl Nicks there to would also be very shitty. I hope not.

How can they afford 2 FA's that are probably going to command the most $ for their positions? That would also free up Dallas to really improve their team in the draft, by a pretty substantial amount given those are 2 of their biggest needs.
Carr is a decent player
Rflairr : 2/26/2012 10:44 pm : link
I wouldn't call him a stud

I didn't realize they had that much space. My bad (to you too, Jay).

Even so, though, the Chiefs need to use that cap room elsewhere...they could have Carr in addition to Routt and, along with Flowers, Berry, Arenas, etc., have the best secondary in football, but that would be at the expense of other need positions that they have to address in order to take the next step. My point being that there was still an inherent choice in signing Routt--they knew their chances of retaining Carr at that point dropped dramatically.
Sorry
Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 11:09 pm : link
I did mean AFC West.

Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 11:11 pm : link
I do agree with you that it would be ridiculous for them to spend so much on their secondary even though they were so far under the cap. I was just stating that they could re-sign Carr to a short term deal which would give them one of the deepest secondary in the NFL. Flowers is a very versatile DB in which he could shift over to safety in certain packages.
If signing Carr
Jay on the Island : 2/26/2012 11:13 pm : link
prevents Dallas from having the cap room to sign Carl Nicks I am all for it.
Apparently the Cowboys covet Carr....
Vin_Cuccs : 2/27/2012 6:36 am : link
....and have since he was drafted. So this isn't a big surprise especially since they are so thin at CB.
Nmadi A signed with the Eagles last year
ejcube : 2/27/2012 7:36 am : link
Look how that turned out. Relax folks
..
Dubs : 2/27/2012 8:06 am : link
It is still not a good thing that Nnamdi is on the Eagles, regardless of the year one results. They used him terribly last season but they brought in a great secondary coach and did make defensive adjustments as the season progressed.
Nmandi
Jon in NYC : 2/27/2012 8:09 am : link
and the Eagles will get it figured it out. That much is close to certain.
Nmadi ...
BillKo : 2/27/2012 9:38 am : link
is an incredibly soft player when it comes to physical contact...which doesn't bode well when you're in the NFC East. And NFC East QB's will throw at you....as we saw that year.

Problem with Nmadi, as some have pointed out on here, he can only play one side of the field.

And at 31, he might play better next year but for the investment they made he isn't even close to the player they thought they were getting. Very overrated IMO.
No worries..

Wasn't DC consulted?
