Anyone else listening to Sam Huff on Sirius now?

Optimus-NY : 2/29/2012 4:23 pm
He's going off on Goodell, is waxing poetic about the Giants (present and old version), and throwing bouquets at Dan Snyder.

Pretty good listen. Turn it on if you can now.
Snyder pays his salary

just sayin'
With all due respect
bigblue12 : 2/29/2012 4:24 pm : link
he sounds like a senile old man and knows little about the game of football today.
Sorry Optimus, I'm listening
Big Blue '56 : 2/29/2012 4:26 pm : link
and he's rambling with utter nonsense..Truly sounds drunk. Worst interview I've heard in years..
A respected local sports anchor

goes to my gym. He agrees that Huff is senile and says the only reason Huff is still a broadcaster is that Sonny Jurgensen won't work without Huff being kept on.
Has Sam Huff said anything nice about the Giants in decades?

Please make this stop.

He lost it a while ago

Living in the DC area, I sometimes pick up Redskins games on the radio while driving around. He truly is senile. He constantly gets lost re what's going on in the game, who has the ball, names of players, everything, and Sonny Jurgensen and Larry Michael have to correct his mistakes. They try to do it with a laugh, but sometimes Sonny is a litttle rough on old Sam. It's really sad. If he makes it through this year, I'm sure it will be his last.
Dude is a relic
Optimus-NY : 2/29/2012 4:35 pm : link
An oldie, but definitely NOT a goodie. Sad. I feel for the Giants fans who are down DC way and have to put up with all things Skins.

Sam never wanted to leave the Giants, but get over it already--he never has though.
What did he have to say about Goodell?

Considering all the stuff we're learning about brain injuries
81_Great_Dane : 2/29/2012 4:36 pm : link
for NFL players, we might want to show a little more compassion for a man who's "senile" after winning a ring.
Why did you say
tito wooten : 2/29/2012 4:37 pm : link
it is a "pretty good listen?" It was awful.
Basically talked about no player safety when he played.
Big Blue '56 : 2/29/2012 4:39 pm : link
They were men..Went on to talk about knocking out Jim Brown, making Jim Taylor swallow his tongue. Feels players should be allowed to use their helmets like he did. After all this is football! I guess he'll never understand what all those hits with his helmet have affected him now..He talked punch drunk
lol tito
Optimus-NY : 2/29/2012 4:40 pm : link
you're right.

Pretty good listen for 4:30 pm at work. I'm just numb now I guess, lol.

He said Goodell never played th game, so what does he know about all the rules that are being implemented now for player safety. That kind of thing.
Ah
Sneakers O'toole : 2/29/2012 4:43 pm : link
I see. I suppose I'm somewhere in the middle then. I don't like the way the game is being officiated today with some of these rule changes and emphasis. But I don't think that there should be blatent headhunting either. So I agree with him about Goodell, just not willing to go as far down that street as he is.
He sounds like a senile version of Ogre from "Revenge of the Nerds"
Optimus-NY : 2/29/2012 4:44 pm : link
For those who can remember back that far
Defenderdawg : 2/29/2012 5:09 pm : link
In a unrelated note, however from the Giants/Colts championshop games that Huff was a part of, I saw where Don Joyce former Baltimore Colts DE passed away the other day, he played against the Giants in the 1958 and 1959 championship games, was overshadowed by Lipscomb, Donovan, Marchetti, still made the probowl in 1958 and later became a respected scout in the early days of BLESTO and beyond.

It wasn't that many years ago, was it, when one of the network's
Reese's Pieces : 2/29/2012 5:36 pm : link
weekly pregame show included a highlight reel of the last week's most viscious hits. And the NFL itself (or maybe it was Sports Illustrated) sold retail recordings of the NFL's greatest hits.

Shouldn't be too hard on Sam. He is an old warrior and admitted himself in the interview, if you caught it, that he is suffering from senility.
dawg,
Big Blue '56 : 2/29/2012 5:41 pm : link
underated indeed..He was one helluva Player, imo..RIP

So I've been hearing Huff on Skins broadcasts for years. He literally doesn't known who's playing. He routinely mis-identifies players. He contradicts himself from one moment to another. I've also heard that Sonny won't work without him; it's the only explanation I can accept.

God bless the guy; he was a great player, and wasn't an awful announcer once. But it's over. The irony of this guy, whose brains are completely scrambled, blabbering about how there should be more head-hunting in the game, is just sad and ironic.
Hearing you guys describe
ColHowPepper : 2/29/2012 6:58 pm : link
the interview and those in the DC area listening to him in regular season broadcasts, it is quite sad.

A true warrior in an era where the game was played differently, and you wore your manhood each day, but didn't know what it was doing to you.
his radio commentary
ep in md : 2/29/2012 9:07 pm : link
is insufferable on multiple fronts but If I am in the car and want to listen to a Giants-Skins game there are few options.
I listened to this interview twice
djm : 3/1/2012 11:28 am : link
because I couldn't believe my ears the first go around.

Sam Huff sounds senile. HE actually admits it too.

I can't believe this guy broadcasts games every week?

Huff contradicted himself about 20 times and just darted in and out of topics, throwing out different anecdotes at random points in the conversation. He's shot. But amusing.

"Skins beat the world champs TWICE" Ok Sam thanks for that. We get it. Saying it three times was enough. MAybe the Skins can have a parade.
djm,
Big Blue '56 : 3/1/2012 11:30 am : link
listen again, he said it a bunch more than 3 times..;)
Is Huff any different than the late
PEEJ : 3/1/2012 11:31 am : link
Dick Lynch ?
"You have to have the QB"
djm : 3/1/2012 11:32 am : link
then he goes on to blast the running game in Washington but I swear he then praised the running game 15 seconds later...then "admits" that you need a QB to win, then says the Skins have the QB, but the QB in Washington needs to make plays...but then insinuated that the system is flawed.

I heard that on the way home yesterday
Walt in MD : 3/1/2012 11:33 am : link
I hope he was drunk, because if not, he's lost his mind. He couldn't answer a question. He just kept talking about hitting Jim Brown, or Gifford, or something else from his past. It was a rough listen.

djm : 3/1/2012 11:34 am : link
it's funny I was waiting for Huff to fire off some missles the Giants way. He always does. He's bitter about being traded and hates Allie Sherman....

So I waited for the first missle. Didn't take long. And then he kept saying it, lol.
honestly
djm : 3/1/2012 11:38 am : link
If My old uncle started talking like that at one of my family get togethers, i'd just humor him the exact same manner that Kirwan and Ryan humored Huff. They would chuckle in that uncomfortable way...you know....we allk have been there...and they would then try and dodge the awkward moment with another safe question. Problem was, there was no safe question. Huff was on the prowl and if you were on his lawn, he was ready to yell get off it.
I was going to start the same thread
djm : 3/1/2012 11:40 am : link
except I was going to point out how insane the guy sounded. I'm surprised the thread started in this manner. I guess interesting was one way to describe it. I would have gone with scary. Huff sounds like he's suffering from dementia.
