Does SB XLVI negate the pain from this play?

Bramton1 : 3/8/2012 10:02 pm

Or do I still get a "fuck you" for posting it?
obviously
MetsAreBack : 3/8/2012 10:04 pm : link
we got payback x10 on that.

And that's pretty much the last positive Eagles fan memory. They've played 18 games since then.
sorry, 19 games since then
MetsAreBack : 3/8/2012 10:05 pm : link
and went 8-11 in those game. oh, and 4 of those wins were in garbage time when they were already knocked out. They went 4-11 after that play.

Justice served.

Fuck you, Philly

erased this gif out of my head after Bradshaw scored that TD!!! They have that play to remember. We have Eli's escape & Tyree's catch and now Eli's perfect throw and Manningham keeping his feet in to remember. Our plays were in a little bit bigger of a game. I'll take ours :)
play
simatt : 3/8/2012 10:14 pm : link
hurt for awhile. It's still not a positive memory but I could care less about it at this point. Philly makes their own t-shirts in December, the Giants have the NFL make theirs in February
No.

That play
an_idol_mind : 3/8/2012 10:15 pm : link
brought about the "Finish" theme that was so important this year. I think that terrible loss is partly responsible for this year's Super Bowl win.
Nothing will erase that play

XLII erased
MookGiants : 3/8/2012 10:20 pm : link
the 49er playoff game in my mind, and XLVI erased that play, along with the fact that if we won that game, the Eagles very well may have won the Superbowl, because GB wouldn't have been in it to knock them out
Kyle maybe this will help you feel better
Larry in Pencilvania : 3/8/2012 10:28 pm : link
For that play they got a T-Shirt

For our loyalty and patience the Giants have rewarded us with these

They can keep their T-Shirt and one play because I'll take the championships every time
It's still
simatt : 3/8/2012 10:31 pm : link
painful watching it, but before SB XLVI it stuck out. Now it's just a bad memory that is only tough to watch, not something I think too much about. While it doesnt negate the pain, winning the SB the very next year pushes that memory back in my mind.
I honestly don't even think
TheBigBlueOne : 3/8/2012 10:33 pm : link
about that. Super Bowl > Eagles' Achievements.
I won't ever forget sitting in that stadium, saying aloud pre-snap
Kyle : 3/8/2012 10:33 pm : link
"he's gonna run it back", and the utter numbness and emptiness 10 seconds later.

Fuck that franchise.

That loss cost us a two seed. We would have played Seattle at home in the divisional round.

It should be our yearly mission to inflict as much misery as possible for 2010.
everything is erased

after our super bowl win.
One more gif
Bramton1 : 3/8/2012 10:43 pm : link

Ahh... much better.
That play cemented the need for a real punter and brought us
Larry in Pencilvania : 3/8/2012 10:43 pm : link
For me it does negate the pain of that loss.
Giants11737 : 3/8/2012 10:45 pm : link
Just like beating the 49ers in the NFCC negated the pain of the 2002 Wild Card game.

XXXV still hurts, not nearly as much though. Would love to beat the Ravens in a meaningful game, doesn't even have to be the SB.
Absolutely it does

We have won 2 of the last 5 Superbowls. Everything negative that has happened in between has been erased for me.

2 out of the last 5. We may never see this again. Fuck Desean Jackson, fuck Matt Dodge and fuck the Eagles. That game matters no more.
Have the Eagles won Superbowl since that play ??
Blue Blood : 3/8/2012 10:58 pm : link
Nope.. then nothing to talk about..
This has nothing to do with the topic
BigBlueinSoFl : 3/8/2012 11:21 pm : link
but I just wanted to join in on posting animated gifs:

A couple of thoughts....
bradshaw44 : 3/8/2012 11:26 pm : link
1. Nitro thank you soooo much for posting that gif...

2. Jackson can do that every year if it means we will win the SB the next year. I bet it hurt him more watching us hoist the Lombardi one year later, then the joy stupid eagles fans felt that day.
The Difference Between the Giants and Eagles
djstat : 3/8/2012 11:34 pm : link
The Eagles ade a play like that in a game in the regular season....the Giants make big plays like that in Super Bowls.

To the poster of the video: FU :)

I will always hate the Eagles. But that play was out of my mind when Victor Cruz embarrassed Nhamdi Ashamgha in week 3

If that play still makes you sick
4thand17 : 3/8/2012 11:41 pm : link
then don't watch the first five minutes of the 2011 America's Game. I bet NFL Films opens the show with that play.
Yeah I agree
SimpleMan : 3/9/2012 12:33 am : link
the punting of Weatherford will be a big part of the storyline, and surely they will use that clip.
Larry in Penn nails it
Rick Morehouse : 3/9/2012 3:30 am : link
Similar to how the '03 season brought on Eli, the '10 debacle brought us Steve Weatherford.

While Weatherford isn't to the NYG what Eli is, the shitty game (that I watched from my beloved seats in the MEZZ), made us get a real punter who actually made a difference in us making (and winning) a super bowl this season.

Rick Morehouse : 3/9/2012 3:32 am : link
Do we remember the crap we had at punter before Feagles? Guys like Feagles and Weatherford make a HUGE difference to football teams.

I honestly did not see the end of that play when it happened....
Britt in VA : 3/9/2012 6:45 am : link
As soon as I saw him break out, my back was to the TV and I was exiting the bar, I knew by the reaction what happened. I have not seen that play in it's entirety ever, until I opened this thread.

It does not sting anymore. One thought, when Jackson showboated before going in, I don't think he was aware somebody was behind him inside the end zone. Too bad he didn't slow up a bit and whoever that was could have tackled him short. That would have been sweet.
You can blame Dodge
yankfan : 3/9/2012 6:55 am : link
if you want, but they had him surrounded at the Philly 30. He should have been tackled there. That's on everyone.
I think the 2nd game of 2011 was big
Jerry's Kids : 3/9/2012 7:24 am : link
in putting that to bed. Amazing I had forgot how crushing 2010 was the Packers loss the next week was brutal as well.

What a bounce back to finish the way we did against the Cowboys and the Jets.

St. Jimmy : 3/9/2012 7:44 am : link
for whatever reason the three guys right in front of him all fall down. It looks like one was pushed into the two in front of him by an Eagle. It probably should have been a penalty for a block in the back since the an Eagle pushed the guy from behind into the players in front of him.

But in the end, something was wrong with the Giants team that year. Too many turnovers that year.
No,
Big Blue '56 : 3/9/2012 8:05 am : link
we might be celebrating a back to back with GB being eliminated
No the SB
pjcas18 : 3/9/2012 8:32 am : link
does zero to eliminate the pain of the fiasco and no super bowls win will.

they are mutually exclusive. Super Bowl wins are enjoyable, even euphoric, but that play is painful and always will be.
I don't see any reason to link the two.
WideRight : 3/9/2012 8:54 am : link
We are champions.

Punky J and the Eagles make some good plays. Let's give them some credit on that one. It's a shame they fail to win anything when it matters most.
I'm with pj

man is Jackson fast!

Whoosh
I agree that that game may have had a lot
tribs : 3/9/2012 9:50 am : link
to do with the sucess the Giants had this year. It was without a doubt the crucible of "Finish". This whole season was keep it close and you can win in the end. I think they learned it from the Eagles up close and personal in that game. The Eagles were down and playing like crap and NO ONE thought they had a chance, but the game wasn't over and they fought back.
Flash forward to almost exactly one year later and the Giants lose to the Redskins, they were down and playing like crap and NO ONE thought they had a chance, but the season wasn't over yet...

you know how the story ends.
