*Asshat Info* about Brandon Jacobs

gidiefor : Mod : 3/19/2012 10:13 am
Okay - I'm prefacing these remarks with the following disclaimers. I was told this info by a friend of a friend of Brandon Jacobs - I know both of them and I deem them at least to be reliable - and I am not going to reveal who they are. I don't know if this is true it's just what I heard - and that's as far as I'm going. This is what was said:

Quote:
BJac is about to be signed to a 1 year deal and possibly even a # change to 29..... shoudl be done in the next day or two..

Have fun storming the castle!

No offense to Jacobs but....
Vin_Cuccs : 3/19/2012 10:21 am : link
....with better, younger backs like Michael Bush, Mike Tolbert and BenJarvus Green-Ellis only generating lukewarm interest at best on the open market, this would be a no-brainer for him.

With that said, I'd be happy to have him back but would still look to draft a RB very early.
as long as the #s work i'm all for it
RodneyHamp : 3/19/2012 10:23 am : link
but he's gotta keep #27!!!!!!!!!
An expected re-signing
JonC : 3/19/2012 10:23 am : link
we still need to draft a RB.
one year deal with whom
chris r : 3/19/2012 10:23 am : link
?
I'm indifferent
Mark from Jersey : 3/19/2012 10:27 am : link
on bringing him back. I am not sure what he can add this year with other viable options in FA & draft.

Then again signing him does not insure he makes the team. I just know the first time he starts tip toeing east & west people will start calling him out (again).

I saw this all over FB this morning…License Plate Guy posted this, I also think Giants 101, etc. I was actually surprised it wasn’t on BBI. I saw it early this morning.
Why would he change his number
Tyrion : 3/19/2012 10:31 am : link
Not doubting the source, but that just seems odd. The 1 year deal seems spot on the money to me.
Any free agent RBs with the number 27
rnargi : 3/19/2012 10:32 am : link
that might be making a visit?
Might be changing his # bc of the
halfback20 : 3/19/2012 10:33 am : link
New Nike jerseys and this is his first opportunity to change. Idk though.
Gidie and Kannell...I saw it on FB, too, and was about to post it
FranknWeezer : 3/19/2012 10:34 am : link
LPG is close w/ BJ, so I have no doubt this is true.
Maybe he's changing his number to 1...
BMac : 3/19/2012 10:35 am : link
...This way, he can retire as the Giants' number 1 running back.
rnargi
Fish : 3/19/2012 10:35 am : link
maybe a trade with the Broncos and we get Knowshon Moreno?
I hope this is true...
Jan in DC : 3/19/2012 10:36 am : link
Jacobs is a good locker room guy to have, I think. Vocal guy, plays hard.
Josh in the City would rather there be disinformation
mort christenson : 3/19/2012 10:36 am : link
and misinformation that has the feel of inside info rather than there be no type of information. So he'd rather get misled than simply be in the dark. Cool.

And that, ladies and gents, is why we have conspiracy theories flourishing. Like the 9/11 stuff.
The way he picks up the blitz
Chip : 3/19/2012 10:37 am : link
and saves Elis ass is the most important function of our RB tandem. Brandon stones lb and other blitzes. While the Scotts of the world get thrown around like rag dolls. Bradshaw is also excellent in blitz pick up. We lose Eli for the season then the season is done.
Many players may change numbers
ballanda : 3/19/2012 10:38 am : link
because of the switch to Nike equipment. In the past if a player changed his number then he had to personally buy all existing inventory of the jerseys made with his old number. but this is a one time opportunity for players to switch for free.

Josh in the City : 3/19/2012 10:39 am : link
so you're comparing the light-hearted nature of Giants free agency to national security conspiracy issues? LOL you sound ridiculous.

It's the offseason...if someone is wrong, big f-ing deal. As long as you know it's unofficial what's wrong with speculation from random sources? Not good to take yourself (or the Giants) so seriously.
I'd rather sign Jacobs to a 1-year deal
pjcas18 : 3/19/2012 10:40 am : link
than BJGE for longer.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a RB drafted early too.
Well, maybe it's because 29 is a prime number
Mark C : 3/19/2012 10:42 am : link
?

Or, it's Strahan's number backwards, which could mean that Strahan's coming back too!
(Remember, you heard it here first...)
Well
mitch300 : 3/19/2012 10:42 am : link
we know that License plate guy is close to Jacobs so this very well might happen.
Ah, I
muhajir : 3/19/2012 10:45 am : link
love the smell of asshat in the morning
I've
sin : 3/19/2012 10:46 am : link
heard the same thing from my source, however, i've heard nothing about a number change.

Modus Operandi : 3/19/2012 10:46 am : link
When I need to know what the cap ramifications are of cutting/extending a given player...or for the latest news on the NYG...

I always go to License Plate Guy.
It has a lot of upside for minimal risk
GiantBlue : 3/19/2012 10:47 am : link
* Knows the offense
* Great at blitz pick-up
* Has decent hands for swing passes
* With one year deal, can play with passion rather than
worry about injury compromising big, long term salary
*Can't doubt emotion and will to win
*Is a beast against the Cowboys
Great news Gidie. Thanks.
Marty in Albany : 3/19/2012 10:53 am : link
Brandon, it's time for you to learn how to catch.
Love to see him back ....
mjt832 : 3/19/2012 10:58 am : link
especially for money/years that is reasonable. Just curious about the number change.
Come on back
BigBluePrestige : 3/19/2012 10:59 am : link
big boy. Retire a Giant =]
One more condition-
OldPolack : 3/19/2012 11:02 am : link
NO RUNNING OTHER THAN NORTH SOUTH.
ZogZerg
SLIM : 3/19/2012 11:03 am : link
Why would you need to do that? What has changed in the past 10 days since he was cut?

He might've only been offered a minimum contract anyway so there is no room to cut.
If this is true it is smart and says were the Giants
Larry in Pencilvania : 3/19/2012 11:08 am : link
are looking in the draft. I expect them to pick up a RB. Why spend money on a vet who has wear on his tires when you can get a rook with full tread and much cheaper. A vet is not fiscally responsible on a multi year deal
Thanks Judge, for passing that along
HomerJones45 : 3/19/2012 11:10 am : link
I think he was told all along that the Giants would be getting back to him once they got their cap straightened out. I think the Giants always wanted him back and the Jacobs' family didn't want to leave the area.
i think jacobs is just about done
GiantsFan84 : 3/19/2012 11:27 am : link
but this lessens the immediate need to draft an RB and it allows you to cut jacobs if you want to

i like it
Decent hands?
BlueLou : 3/19/2012 11:33 am : link
lol.
Garafalo isn't so sure
SwirlingEddie : 3/19/2012 11:36 am : link

Mike G. refers to this thread - ( New Window )
As long
Sammo284 : 3/19/2012 11:37 am : link
as it is for the vet minimum and doesn't preclude the Giants from getting a RB drafted, I am okay with it.

To my "source"
gidiefor : Mod : 3/19/2012 11:52 am : link
Ha - we made the papers dude!
The problem
muhajir : 3/19/2012 11:54 am : link
with using Jacobs as a depth signing is that he freaks out when people jump ahead of him on the depth chart
I wonder
Reeses Pieces : 3/19/2012 11:59 am : link
what Mike G's handle is
Jacobs is a team leader
BeachBumGiant : 3/19/2012 12:04 pm : link
I'd love to have him back.
is NJ.com allowed to link
bluefin : 3/19/2012 12:16 pm : link
the word "asshat"? I hope the FCC doesn't catch wind
Slim
ZogZerg : 3/19/2012 12:29 pm : link
Because he realized no other team is willing to pay what he wants and his wife wants to stay in NY. Why would the Giants pay him more money than he's worth?
Hope Mike
fkap : 3/19/2012 12:30 pm : link
doesn't use the same loose interpretation/absolutes as with "it's going to happen" when he reports what his other sources say
ZogZerg
SLIM : 3/19/2012 12:48 pm : link
You said that they should offer less than what they originally offered. The Giants offered what they feel he was worth to their team. There is no reason to basically throw him an F U now and say you should've agreed 10 days ago and now we are offering less. Again, I think it is probably very close to the minimum already. They value him enough to have left the door open, now is not the time to haggle.
Damn Zogzerg
muhajir : 3/19/2012 1:40 pm : link
that's cooold
Jacobs should be the third back
chris r : 3/19/2012 1:41 pm : link
if he's willing to be paid as such, welcome back.
Reeses Pieces...

It's Mike G
not sure if it was a rumor
jel0514 : 3/19/2012 5:31 pm : link
But, didnt someone say bshaw was going to wear 27 in homage to jacobs? Idk if it was true or just rumors but could be the reason for the number change...
Not
DanMetroMan : 3/20/2012 8:39 am : link
an asshat at all but my friend ran into Jacobs at some boxing event and he told him he was a big Giant fan and would miss him and Jacobs said something like "well see, well see" which my friend took to mean the door isn't closed yet.
I was pretty sure he was going to be a Jet by now.
an_idol_mind : 3/20/2012 8:44 am : link
The longer he sits in free agency, the more likely it seems like he'll come back to the Giants.
Jacobs..
Q : 3/20/2012 7:16 pm : link
to blocking tight end/full back.

I am wearing a hat and my ass is itchy today.
