He was scheduled to be a FA next year. Now he is signed through 2015 according to NFLPA.
2012 700000.00
2013 824000.00
2014 925000.00
2015 975000.00
competition this year in camp.
A LS who can be a rotational DL or #1 backup at an OL position.
I highly doubt you will find an OL or DL who can down the field and make the tackels he does. No worries at that position for at least a few more years.
don't screw with the long snapper... hello trey junkin?
after we just re-structured him to keep him with us til 2015? Alrighty.
for what he costs to know that we're covered with long snaps and as a bonus get a snapper who gets down field in coverage, i like this move.
My thoughts exactly. At one point he Giants went several years without a player like D'Ossie. Lets relish what we have.
and we should get Weatherford some competition because I want my punter to also be my primary back-up at QB
hope David Carr knows how to punt the football....
by being a better long snapper and special teams player than a LB and making a full career out of it.
yes, def jay alford looking for a try out!!
gives props to BBI:
| As noted by the folks over at @BigBlueInteract, looks like LS Zak DeOssie got a contract extension. #nyg |
I'm not sure Zak even practices with the LBs anymore...
and that playoff game against the 49ers to understand how valuable a long snapper is. Giants' management doesn't want a repeat of that fiasco.
everyone loves him and wants to keep him. Im not saying cut him I am saying lets see if we can draft a DL/OL that can long snap and contribute not only to ST but to depth at that position.
As one poster pointed out, Im not even sure if he still practices with the LBs (half joking of course).
That's not going to happen. A lot of NFL teams have a dedicated LS.
I'm teaching my son how to long-snap at a very early age.
and I don't think we're bringing in people to battle for Eli's spot..
No way.
They guy is one of the best if not the best coverage long snappers. He is often the first one down the field on punts making the tackle.
He is a pro-bowler for a reason.
for NFC Championship games, it doesn't matter who's snapping it.
doesn't practice with the D anymore. Solely a LS specialist.
He still had twice AS many tackles (10) as the next closest at his position.
why do people need an opinion about everything? Bring in competition for the long snapper, someone who can help on O or D? Maybe yes, maybe no. But I dont give a crap.
most Giants fans have an opinion about the playoff game in SF in 2002.
That's a totally different issue.
why does everyone have an opinion about everything? Don't most people have opinions about most things? Also.. you then proceeded to give your opinion as well.. nothing wrong with that.. and I respect it.. just as those who don't feel he needs competition have an opinion..
regardless.. I believe in training camp there are others who might work as LSs so we can get the most out in practice and in case we ever needed an emergency LS..
scratch that.. but I guess not giving a crap is somewhat of an opinion.. ;) then again maybe not.. either way.. no big deal..
Are you saying footballs are made of metal? I'm confused.
that has a LS who also plays on offense or defense.
...but he does need a backup just in case of injury. Not sure who it is, probably one of the OL (maybe Boothe).
he snaps one over the punter's head. He will be the Giants' LS until that day, or until he is too old to run down field.
That any rookie's LS skills are going to keep them on the squad.
One-year qualifying contracts every season, to reduce his cap hit. But this is fine too.
Just have to say I get it I am wrong and move on .
after snapping to Weatherford, brings a chuckle.
Compared to Deo.
If the only thing the dude can do is long snap, I'm fine with that.
I'll never forget 1/5/03.
playing a bunch of LB when he was here. Beating out guys like Reasons and Carlton Bailey for playing time. I also seem to remember zack and his dad talking about how zack pretty much taught himself to snap. And to Mark: EVERY NFL team has a dedicated LS who does nothing else. Giants just happen to have one of the best.
