Eric from BBI : Admin : 4/20/2012 12:39 pm
He was scheduled to be a FA next year. Now he is signed through 2015 according to NFLPA.

2012 700000.00
2013 824000.00
2014 925000.00
2015 975000.00
sexy moves
Semipro Lineman : 4/20/2012 12:40 pm : link
sexy moves are sexy
He needs
Mark from Jersey : 4/20/2012 12:42 pm : link
competition this year in camp.

A LS who can be a rotational DL or #1 backup at an OL position.
huh
Semipro Lineman : 4/20/2012 12:46 pm : link
0_o?
Love the move
oldmanTom : 4/20/2012 1:04 pm : link
I highly doubt you will find an OL or DL who can down the field and make the tackels he does. No worries at that position for at least a few more years.
hes fine...
Gordo : 4/20/2012 1:09 pm : link
don't screw with the long snapper... hello trey junkin?
ProBowl quality LS needs competition
Giantology : 4/20/2012 1:13 pm : link
after we just re-structured him to keep him with us til 2015? Alrighty.
agreed
ShockNRoll : 4/20/2012 1:14 pm : link
for what he costs to know that we're covered with long snaps and as a bonus get a snapper who gets down field in coverage, i like this move.
Gordo
oldmanTom : 4/20/2012 1:15 pm : link
My thoughts exactly. At one point he Giants went several years without a player like D'Ossie. Lets relish what we have.
Agreed
redbeard : 4/20/2012 1:21 pm : link
and we should get Weatherford some competition because I want my punter to also be my primary back-up at QB

hope David Carr knows how to punt the football....
I think Mark from NJ is Jay Alford
nyjuggernaut : 4/20/2012 1:24 pm : link
.
Following in his dad's footsteps
Antdog23 : 4/20/2012 1:30 pm : link
by being a better long snapper and special teams player than a LB and making a full career out of it.
haha
deboGIANTS : 4/20/2012 1:31 pm : link
yes, def jay alford looking for a try out!!

gives props to BBI:

As noted by the folks over at @BigBlueInteract, looks like LS Zak DeOssie got a contract extension. #nyg
His did could actually provide depth at LB
Matt G : 4/20/2012 1:33 pm : link
I'm not sure Zak even practices with the LBs anymore...
Teach your kids to snap the football...
moze1021 : 4/20/2012 1:38 pm : link
wow
That's "Interactive", with an "ive" you fucking hack
Moondwg : 4/20/2012 1:45 pm : link

I kid.
One need only think back to Sunday January 5, 2003
GeofromNJ : 4/20/2012 1:47 pm : link
and that playoff game against the 49ers to understand how valuable a long snapper is. Giants' management doesn't want a repeat of that fiasco.
I can understand
Mark from Jersey : 4/20/2012 1:51 pm : link
everyone loves him and wants to keep him. Im not saying cut him I am saying lets see if we can draft a DL/OL that can long snap and contribute not only to ST but to depth at that position.

As one poster pointed out, Im not even sure if he still practices with the LBs (half joking of course).
And we're suggesting
Giantology : 4/20/2012 1:59 pm : link
That's not going to happen. A lot of NFL teams have a dedicated LS.
Shit,
Pete in MD : 4/20/2012 2:06 pm : link
I'm teaching my son how to long-snap at a very early age.
DeOssie is the Eli Manning of long snappers..
Rsspro : 4/20/2012 2:12 pm : link
and I don't think we're bringing in people to battle for Eli's spot..
Competition for DeOssie?
Vin_Cuccs : 4/20/2012 2:50 pm : link
No way.

They guy is one of the best if not the best coverage long snappers. He is often the first one down the field on punts making the tackle.

He is a pro-bowler for a reason.
As long as we heave Weatherford's magnetic ring
Mike in Long Beach : 4/20/2012 3:07 pm : link
for NFC Championship games, it doesn't matter who's snapping it.
Zak
ConMan22 : 4/20/2012 3:17 pm : link
doesn't practice with the D anymore. Solely a LS specialist.

He still had twice AS many tackles (10) as the next closest at his position.
don't know why AS is in caps.
ConMan22 : 4/20/2012 3:18 pm : link
.
Dont really care
Deej : 4/20/2012 3:20 pm : link
why do people need an opinion about everything? Bring in competition for the long snapper, someone who can help on O or D? Maybe yes, maybe no. But I dont give a crap.
Deej
ConMan22 : 4/20/2012 3:22 pm : link
most Giants fans have an opinion about the playoff game in SF in 2002.
ConMan
Deej : 4/20/2012 3:41 pm : link
That's a totally different issue.
Deej.. kinda a weird statement in my opinion..
Rsspro : 4/20/2012 3:48 pm : link
why does everyone have an opinion about everything? Don't most people have opinions about most things? Also.. you then proceeded to give your opinion as well.. nothing wrong with that.. and I respect it.. just as those who don't feel he needs competition have an opinion..

regardless.. I believe in training camp there are others who might work as LSs so we can get the most out in practice and in case we ever needed an emergency LS..
ahh.. i missed the question marks.. I see that's not your opinion then
Rsspro : 4/20/2012 3:49 pm : link
scratch that.. but I guess not giving a crap is somewhat of an opinion.. ;) then again maybe not.. either way.. no big deal..
Mike in LB-
ConMan22 : 4/20/2012 3:50 pm : link
Are you saying footballs are made of metal? I'm confused.
Remember DeOssie's last horrible snap?
Headhunter : 4/20/2012 4:43 pm : link
neither do I
I can't think of a single team in the NFL
Jay on the Island : 4/20/2012 4:47 pm : link
that has a LS who also plays on offense or defense.
He doesn't need competition...
Milton : 4/20/2012 6:36 pm : link
...but he does need a backup just in case of injury. Not sure who it is, probably one of the OL (maybe Boothe).
I doubt that DeOssie gets any competition in camp until
Marty in Albany : 4/20/2012 6:47 pm : link
he snaps one over the punter's head. He will be the Giants' LS until that day, or until he is too old to run down field.
I believe Jim Cordle
Jay on the Island : 4/20/2012 8:48 pm : link
can LS.
I don't think
Killed the K-Gun : 4/20/2012 9:37 pm : link
That any rookie's LS skills are going to keep them on the squad.

I'd prefer to see him on the David Carr plan.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/20/2012 9:54 pm : link
One-year qualifying contracts every season, to reduce his cap hit. But this is fine too.
Sometimes you
BBurns : 4/20/2012 11:10 pm : link
Just have to say I get it I am wrong and move on .
The idea of Cordle, or better yet Boothe, waddling down the field
BlueLou : 4/20/2012 11:51 pm : link
after snapping to Weatherford, brings a chuckle.

Compared to Deo.
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 4/21/2012 6:36 am : link
If the only thing the dude can do is long snap, I'm fine with that.

I'll never forget 1/5/03.
Antdog I remember his dad
BACKERSFAN : 4/22/2012 7:10 pm : link
playing a bunch of LB when he was here. Beating out guys like Reasons and Carlton Bailey for playing time. I also seem to remember zack and his dad talking about how zack pretty much taught himself to snap. And to Mark: EVERY NFL team has a dedicated LS who does nothing else. Giants just happen to have one of the best.
