Team draft grades

A thread for how the "experts" graded the draft. Or post your own.

This one has Bengals the best. Giants get a B. Randle rated their best pick.

I'd give the Bengals the best grade

Eagles, Bucs and Rams runners up.

No idea how you grade a draft already.
Nothing that said WOW.

First three picks... Just filling in the wholes of lost free agents, but not of more important needs. The Giants have a grab bag of who who to play the right tackle spot. The running game last year had it problems, not only becuase of the backs but a big part was the offensive line. Wilson was not the best pick with Cody and Martin on the board. Heck, there was still very good back on the board in round three that would have been just a good if not better then Wilson. Sorry, have to give this draft a C. This draft was just to deep with running backs and recivers for the Giants to draft 1 and 2 back and reciver.

superficial fluff. I guess he didn't have enough room to say we're exposed at RT bc Brewer is the current starter.
chiefmps: Cody?
Big Blue Blogger : 4/29/2012 7:32 am : link
Did you mean Cordy or Coby? Or were you hedging in case only one of them turns out to be any good?

As for right tackle, the Giants obviously think the answer for 2012 was already on the roster. Either they're comfortable with Diehl/Locklear as a stopgap, or they think Brewer is ready for prime time.
Picking last in every round

And coming up with Wilson, Randle and Holsey is very strong drafting. For a talent heavy team with a tight roster getting 3 guys who look like they can contribute and contribute soon is exellent. It's about quality not quantity for the Giants and they did that. The other picks are more potential than than prodution so it's hard to know what they will be.
I wonder
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 4/29/2012 7:54 am : link
what the Patriots got for a grade after they drafted Tom Brady in the sixth round? I would echo the idea that the Giants did very well given the fact that they were drafting at the end of every round. Wilson has as much potential as any back in the draft (short of Richardson), Randle was a 1st round candidate in almost all mocks. Hosley was a second round candidate in many eyes. That's pretty durn good for drafting #32 in each round.
Like I said a grab bag.
chiefmps : 4/29/2012 7:54 am : link
Cordy Glenn, lost the r there. I'm sure that the Giants feel a lot of things about who could start at right tackle? However, Glenn and or Martin would have removed all questions as to who the starting right tackle would have been. Let’s see, deep draft for running backs and receivers but not so deep for starting tackles what should we do? Now, the Giants have at least five or six choices and hope that one will be the answer? I don’t know about you but I just don’t get that happy feeling with, let see if one of the six guys will fill the need at right tackle! Sorry to say this but, the Giants just made the playoff because of how bad the rest of the NFC east was last year, don’t count on that happening again this year. Sorry, when I see Wilson I just don’t get that happy feeling knowing that the Giants could have addressed their need for a back later in the draft. Have to see and hope for the best.
yeah Brewer will be starting at RT??
BillyBoy8384 : 4/29/2012 8:05 am : link
The Giants can bring in a vet to play there or shuffle the line up. Their first 3 picks are solid. How can you not like Randle's NFL ready ability to play WR, smooth and sharp route runner. he was a 1st rd pick we got in the second in my mind. Eli will make this man tons of money. And I liked Doug Martin too but Wilson is fine by me. After watching tape on him he will be a vocal guy who plays, eats, and shits football. He will be tearing up the turf at Metlife. He has KR/PR ability too that people are forgetting. Pope will turn that athletic freak at TE into a monster. This is Pope's first season in awhile where he has 2 new toys who will make an impact(Bennett) off the bat and the sky is the limit for yo Adrien Robinson from Cincy. I personally loved the first 4 picks, hope that one of the O-Lineman turn into something and Im happy. I think Reese deserves all the b and b+'s hes getting across the country. He added two weapons on offense that happened to fill a need. Who cares just bc they fill a need its bad? Ill take Wilson and Randle any day. These two had Eli drooling Im sure, especially Randle being 6'3. Hosely Mosely and Adrien Robinson I watched tape of all them and think they will make the final roster or stack some on the practice squad.(Develemental OT's and Kuhn) I think the TE will be coached by the best and turn into a freakish athlete at TE. Jimmy Graham switched from basketball to football based off raw athletic ability. Why not yo Adrien Robinson? Happy with the draft

What exactly did you see from Glenn or Martin to think they are better than what the Giants already have. Glenn cant play T in the NFL. Martin went up against 1 NFL caliber player and got used.

article on the draft class of 2009?

I don't know why more authors don't write about that. I think it'd be very interesting to see how teams did in retrospect.
Our draft sucked, even the Bengals got a higher grade,.
Scrub : 4/29/2012 9:42 am : link
and it's all Eli's fault. He's got to go playing SB hero again, and we get stuck with the last pick in each round. We could have been drafting 15th or so.

I also blame Reese. He sucks, he's always sucked. How are we ever going to have a good draft with these 2 leading our team. Not to mention that we never get any of the big name stars in FA either. Again, Eli's fault with his huge contract, and Reese's conservative attitude about throwing $$$ at the big stars. So we are left to muddle with mid range FA's and bottom of the barrel draft picks.
What Billy Boy said
BBurns : 4/29/2012 9:52 am : link
after the draft veteran O-line talent
may come off the books with some teams
that drafted O-line high say they found a
day one starter . I think Reece mentioned
that even after the draft they keep looking
to improve the roster .

We got the best talent we could get. I would went LB or Oline in the third round, but can't complain.
These early grades can be easily summed up:
SB : 4/29/2012 10:34 am : link
Teams with more than one first rounder = A

Teams with more than 7 picks = A
Well, I'm not wowed and I was paying attention.

But that's primarily because, while I like the draft on paper, none of us -- including Prisco & Co -- can even begin to try and fairly put a grade on a bunch of players that haven't even been through rookie camp, nevermind seen real game time.

It'll be quite awhile before anyone can put forth anything more than a superficial assessment.
Interesting that the Giants' "questionable move"

was picking a guy with a positive drug test. Assuming it's pot and not cocaine, that strikes me as an easy problem to fix. If that's his biggest objection to NYG's draft, he doesn't have a lot of objections.

Only slightly less impressive from the confluence of need and value were the Giants, who love to hew to their best-player-available draft approach. Maybe so, but it worked out well to fill needs in New York this time around. The Giants replaced Brandon Jacobs on its running back depth chart with Virginia Tech's David Wilson in the first round, and subbed in LSU receiver Reuben Randle for the departed Mario Manningham in the second round. In the third round, the Giants took Virginia Tech cornerback Jayron Hosley, neatly making up for the loss of Aaron Ross in free agency.
In the fourth round, New York was at it again, taking Adrien Robinson of Cincinnati, after the Giants lost tight ends Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum to ACL injuries in the Super Bowl. The Steelers and Giants were like experienced shoppers on the grand opening of a new supermarket. They knew what they needed, and they efficiently buzzed around getting good bargains in every aisle.

On ESPN this morning, he talks about the NFC East draft....what a great draft Dallas, Wash, and Philly had....and guess what? He says nothing about the Giant's draft, like they didn't even participate in it....he didn't like the Giant's last year in all his predictions, and the fact the Giants have won 2 SB's in 5 years, makes him look like an idiot....well, if the shoe fits, wear it....
