John Harbaugh: Patriots’ titles have asterisks, are stained Posted by Michael David Smith on May 1, 2012, 11:36 AM EDT Ravens coach John Harbaugh believes the Spygate scandal permanently taints the Patriots, saying the three titles the team won under coach Bill Belichick have to be called into question because the team broke NFL rules by taping opposing coaches’ signals. In an interview on Baltimore radio station 97.9 FM, Harbaugh was asked about the Saints bounty scandal. But instead of talking about the Saints, Harbaugh focused his answer on the Patriots. “In the end, everything is brought before the light of day,” Harbaugh said. “Even the thing in New England, no matter whether those things had any impact on whether they won their championships or not, they got asterisks now, it’s been stained. So to me, it’s never worth it. You’ve got to figure out ways to use the rules to your advantage.” Harbaugh said he and the Ravens organization are always careful to make sure they’re in compliance with the rules of the NFL. “If you’re cheating, in the end, you’re going to get discredited,” Harbaugh said. “It’s just not worth it.” Harbaugh added that he believes the Ravens have been victimized by other teams cheating in the past, although he doesn’t want to say which teams because he believes such an accusation would become a headline at a certain pro football website. “Yeah, I have, but if I say when, it’s gonna be like Pro Football Talk is gonna blow up like crazy,” Harbaugh said when asked if he thinks he has ever been victimized by another team breaking the rules. “I’m going to get accused of accusing somebody of something.” Consider PFT blowed up, Coach Harbaugh. |
Frankly, all I know is New England did this video taping against the Jets. We have no evidence, nothing confirmed, that they ever used this regularly and in big games against the Steelers or in the Super Bowl; I like to believe the commissioner would not have sat on this information and destroyed it.
Haters.
Parcells used to worry like crazy that teams were spying on the Giants when they practiced outside from the hotels that overlooked the practice field. They probably were.
What I could never understand about Spygate is why didn't Goodell follow through with the investigation? Why did he dismiss it? Doing that just makes it look like an even bigger cover up than recording other teams practices & signals.
These guys are all in the same line of work, they know what you have to put in to succeed, and hes smart enough to know that the reasons for their success go way deeper than spygate. To just shit on Belichick's accomplishments like this is a low blow. A really low blow. Typical Harbaugh.
Other teams try to pick up signals (spy). Cofield told the Skins what was coming on the Eli pick for a TD. It's part of the game.

After saying in a radio interview that Spygate had “stained” the Patriots’ championships, Ravens coach John Harbaugh has now revised and extended those remarks.
Harbaugh issued a statement this afternoon after making those comments this morning, and he said in his statement that he wasn’t saying he personally believes the Patriots’ titles are tainted. He was saying he thinks others perceive the Patriots’ titles as tainted.
“I answered a question about playing within the rules and referred to the perception that the Super Bowl championships won by the Patriots and Saints have a stain,” Harbaugh said. “My reference was to the perception out there that came as the result of the league’s actions.”
The question asked to Harbaugh was about the Saints’ bounty scandal, and in answering Harbaugh largely ignored bounties and instead brought up Spygate. But in his clarification Harbaugh said he doesn’t want the coaches of either the Saints or the Patriots to think he was suggesting they didn’t earn their Super Bowl rings.
“I could have been more clear that I was referring to those viewpoints,” Harbaugh said. “I totally believe that the Patriot and Saint coaches and players earned those championships. Bill [Belichick] and Sean [Payton] both know that.”
Harbaugh said he has always liked and admired Belichick and contacted him today to say so.
“I called him to remind him of my respect for him,” Harbaugh said. “I also reached out to Tedy Bruschi, who rightfully defended those Patriot players and coaches on ESPN, to tell him that I agree with him that the Patriots earned every victory.”
The Ravens host the Patriots in Week Three on Sunday Night Football. Harbaugh may want to take some advice from his brother and prepare in advance for his post-game handshake.

If its Pats vs an NFC East rival of ours in the SB, or SF, i would root for the Pats. New England vs some random other NFC team i have no connection too, it would be tough
I'd even more prefer to see Coughlin and Eli win another Super Bowl of their own, though.
I'd just assume Houston won one, or Peyton got another in Denver, before I'd want to see Bellicheck/Brady get a 5th.
You guys must not have Boston fan friends -- they don't come more arrogant than them, 95% of whom never watched a down pre-Drew Bledsoe.
06 it was theirs. 21-3 lead in an AFC Title Game
07 a ball bounce here or there
10 they were the best team in football all season and had a bad day
11, again, a ball bounce here or there
And talent wise I think they;re on the come up.

They were warned and then got caught first.
