Rumor: Dolphins offer 2nd and 4th for Osi?

kelsto811 : 5/8/2012 2:16 pm
RUMOR...INSIDE RUMOR

Had to put that out there because well it is out there...Might be worth discussing. Saw it browsing Ralph Vacchiano's twitter and it was posted on Scout.com. For the record I really don't believe it but where are the BBI asshats when you need them?

link - ( New Window )
that's an offer I'd consider
GIANTSr01 : 5/8/2012 2:18 pm : link
Miami will be lucky to finish 3rd in that division with or without Osi so it's a high 2 and a 4th
Consider?
Canton : 5/8/2012 2:18 pm : link
Take it and run Jerry.
Didn't they just sign Wake to a big deal?
Torrag : 5/8/2012 2:18 pm : link
Sounds far fetched to me. If the offer is true I'd do it.

If it is true I would take it
moespree : 5/8/2012 2:19 pm : link
Definitely take it. You will not get much better. Especially from a team is not likely to make the playoffs, so the picks will not be low in the round.
I doubt

From a team that might pick in the top half of each round? Id maybe hold for a 3rd insteaf of the 4th but its close. Also Dolphins are not as much a threat as the Ravens, Osi doesnt put them it over the top
Never get a 2nd and 3rd......

He gives us the best chance of a repeat. However, if the situation becomes totally out of control and a 2 and a 4 from Miami is real, then do it.

Sign Andre Carter to play DE (Played on Pats last year) along with Kiwi. We might be short an outside LB.
This rumor haz ZERO validity

I checked Ralph's twitter. Nowhere does he discuss the tradce rumor with Osi and the Dolphins. The rumor is a post from a message board, where the user has 48 total posts with no link to such rumor.

What kind of cap space would an Osi trade create in the immediate future.
No one has to delete anything...
Jan in DC : 5/8/2012 3:16 pm : link
The first thing in the title says "Rumor".

Half of sports journalism is reporting unsubstantiated things. I don't know why the possibility of something being untrue riles up people so much.
A good sized chunk of BBI
JonC : 5/8/2012 3:19 pm : link
has grown intolerant of rumors, and wants nothing other than confirmed fact to be posted. Thus, asshats no longer post on the forum and posters take a pounding.

It's pretty weak and lame.

Didn't Jason Taylor just retire?
Geeman : 5/8/2012 3:23 pm : link
I think this trade is a possibility for them to get a couple of bookend rushers in Miami. Even though this is a bit of a rebuild, this team played very competitively in several games last year so they do have talent and Osi is a proven commodity. The other part of this is that many teams, especially those in the AFC will look to copy the NYG blueprint for beating the Pats which is by getting after Brady with a heavy pass rush.
Miami may also get permission to negotiate a new contract with Osi
Optimus-NY : 5/8/2012 3:25 pm : link
in this trade scenario, hence the 2 picks floated around. They're not giving up that much to give him up after one season.

I can't find it on Ralph's timeline. The reference to Ralph's twitter feels like a complete fabrication on the part of the OP to give this rumor added validity.

Reese said he wanted a second? I call bullshit. The only thing I remember him saying he would take is a 1.

From a value perspective a 2 and a 4 might be worth it in a vacuum, but this trade would greatly diminish our chances of repeating this year. It's all about this year as far as I'm concerned. I'd really, really rather we did not make this trade.

I just went through Ralph's Twitter feed from the last 48 hours twice and can find no such link. Are you sure it wasn't somebody else?
No
kelsto811 : 5/8/2012 3:49 pm : link
He posted this link to "suria"...whatever that is I thought it was an extension of twitter. Either way apparently it updates relevant Giant news including all of the beat writers on there. I never said Ralph tweeted it I said I was browsing his twitter and came across it.
When you read a thread titled "rumor"
Danthebigbluefan : 5/8/2012 3:49 pm : link
I think it's pretty clear the subject is a rumor. So why are you complaining if there's no validation.

Besides, the point of "stickying" threads is they are Giants related and trending/have a lot of reply posts. Nothing wrong with that.
kelsto, could you please post a link to Ralph's actual post?
3rdandSmith : 5/8/2012 3:59 pm : link

I figured if Ralph is linking the site it has to have some sort of credentials. Amazingly the link to the story is GONE (unless someone can find it in the archives). It is whatever it was there about an hour ago whether you guys believe it or not.

I was correct about the Lavar arrington signing..and that i did hear at the tick tock before it happened. That doesn't excuse the person who stickied this thread.
Now is not the time. Wait until the pre-season. If another team
Marty in Albany : 5/8/2012 5:00 pm : link
has an injury to a starter, they will be willing to make a better offer. Also, by waiting, the Giants will have a better understanding of how well they can play without Osi.

I apologize if this has already been said.

Eli did say in Americas Game that the doctor told him he would be out 3-4 weeks, but Eli did not allow himself to be out that long. Most players would have probably missed at least 2 weeks.

The team just came off winning a championship. I want them heading into next season with the best chance at a repeat. Osi on the roster next season offers that best chance.
any chance this rumor was floated BEFORE
andrew_nyg : 5/8/2012 7:06 pm : link
Wake signed? Great motivation for them to get the deal done.

While we're fantasizing how about Osi and a 3rd for Long and a 5th?

They could move Beatty to the right side and have a nice set of bookend OT's
That is a tempting offer
RB^2 : 5/8/2012 7:11 pm : link
but Osi can be the difference in another championship run. The NFC is really competitive. That's a huge amount of incremental talent we'd be losing just to do what teams that WANT to get to our position would do.

steve in ky : 5/8/2012 7:17 pm : link
Yeah, one could argue we might not have won it last season without Osi. I want Osi playing hungry in his contract year on the roster. I want the Giants to repeat, something they haven't yet been able to pull off.

funny how sensitive

People become on internet boards. Guilty of it myself. Find myself getting angry when people don't agree with me or post a contradictory opinion forcefully. Why should I take it personally? It's just an opinion

Some posters seem to have snarky condescending posting styles, so there is that, but we all know that it's easy to confuse sincerity with sarcasm on the internet

Why the hell
djstat : 5/9/2012 8:43 am : link
Are people in such a rush to get rid of a guy who brings in double digit sacks just for a 2 and a 4? I'd rather keep Osi, get 10 more sacks out of him this year and get nothing in return when he leaves via free agency. If the dolphons offer a 1 thats a different story.

Some knuckleheads here are too into playing arm chair GM. Great pass rushers do not fall off trees. Before Osi, name the other great pass rusher we had next to Strahan for years?

Carl, I would say that attitude towards passed along inside info
Jay in Saratoga : 5/9/2012 9:08 am : link
has changed for the better over the years. I wasn't around on BBI when we signed Ziegler so I don't have any recollection of your experience with sharing information. I can think of several occasions in my time on BBI when someone has broken a scoop before it hit the media and while not everyone believed it they didn't necessarily attack the poster for sharing what he believed to be inside information from a credible source.

I can remember a guy who lived in Tiki's building breaking the news that we cut Arrington, Emmons and Petigout because he heard it from Tiki himself. Aside from the exception of one or two idiots, I don't remember the guy who broke the Steve Smith to the Eagles story taking much flack prior to news hitting the media. Heck, we were even mostly receptive to that asshole who ended up scamming people out of fantasy football money when he claimed his sister was friends with Hixon when he told us Hixon had been traded to Cleveland in a deal for Braylon Edwards.

Now where people do catch flack for posting rumors is when they have a rep for posting bullshit to get attention (Rich Houston) or when they have just signed up and don't make any kind of case for why we should believe them. Those 2 types of people catch shit all the time and they should because 99% of them are pathetic losers. If we miss out on the scoop that other 1% of the time it's worth it, because the beating those idiots take probably discourages other idiots from doing the same.

In general people who link to rumors on other forums don't get attacked directly. If someone saying the rumor is bullshit hurts the posters feelings, they need to get over it. It's not like BBI is saying you or your close personal friend is an asshole for telling us this. They're just saying I think this thing on the internet you happened to stumble across before anyone else is likely bullshit.

The only thing I saw people on this thread giving flack over was the fact that this shaky rumor got stickied and that the OP claimed he saw it on Ralph's twitter (likely a deciding factor in the thread being stickied). The few of us that did some research found that it is absolutely not on Ralph's twitter timeline or in any of his expanded tweets on that sulia site. Whether this deception was by design or incompetence of the OP, that is where people had the issue.

kelsto is not an insider so we aren't risking driving him away. And anyone with inside contacts and even mildly competent critical thinking skills isn't seeing this thread as a reason to not share inside information.
Jay

way to ruin a good pile-on with level headedness and reasoning. ;)
And btw ...
The Original G Man : 5/9/2012 9:18 am : link
The poster at the link says he "read an insider rumor" ... Now, I may be wrong, but I interpret that as meaning the "rumors" section on ESPN's "Insider" page.

For the record, there is no such rumor, or even speculative conjecture, over there about Osi going to Miami.

(Side note - I find it funny how on that other message board there is no curiosity whatsoever by any of the posters about whether it's BS or not. They all just accept that guy's word and believe trade talks are in the works with the Dolphins)
Here's an example of a guy who will catch shit

Don't ever agree with Carl
The Giants would consider trading Osi for a 1st round pick
GeofromNJ : 5/9/2012 6:12 pm : link
I say, consider, not absolutely make the trade. Short of that, Osi is a Giant for 2012. GMs always say they draft for the future, but this is an exaggeration. If the GM thinks his team can win this year with the players he has, he keeps his players. Winning a SB is not a given. It's very rare. When the opportunity presents itself, you go for it. The Giants have an excellent chance to repeat with Osi. Without him, it's problematic.
Sorry

Bad morning. You can agree with me now :)
