Very Little Buzz About Plaxico Burress - ( New Window )

Oops. I mean A Chance."
Thats too bad

I guess its just too much baggage over the years. No one to blame but himself. What the hell does he do for a living now?
It sounds like deserve it or not

Buress is gonna get alot of credit for the dysfunction in the Jets locker room.
At least
steve in ky : 5/8/2012 10:53 pm : link
he is married to a very loyal and successful woman and he has his wonderful children. If he doesn't get an offer there are worse thing in life.
I would bet good money the Skins take a good long look
bradshaw44 : 5/8/2012 10:56 pm : link
at him. They are looking for good weapons on the cheap to help RG out. I actually think that would be a good spot for him and I don't want to see him go there.
As a situational player he still has value
MarshallOnMontana : 5/8/2012 10:58 pm : link
but teams don't really use WR that way. He's still a redzone threat. Jets redzone offense improved dramatically this season (from 28th in 2010 to 2nd in 2011), and its not only the TDs he caught but the attention he attracted down there.
In the 4 seasons since the end of August 2008,
Go Terps : 5/8/2012 11:02 pm : link
when I suggested we trade Plaxico Burress for Chicago's Mark Anderson (and was pilloried for it), the stat line for Plax:

- 80 catches
- 1066 yards
- 12 TDs
- 1 game missed due to suspension for a violation of team rules
- 1 self inflicted gun shot to his leg
- 38 games (including 1 playoff game) missed due to the gunshot and subsequent prison term

Hell of a stat line. Are we going to have to hear the same stupid shit again this summer about bringing this asshole back?

If I could I would go back and switch Plax catching that TD with Toomer or Tyree. He didn't deserve that moment and we as fans don't deserve to have that moment sullied by his presence in it.

Plaxico Burress is learning that the best thing about accidentally shooting yourself in the leg is that you can’t be sued for it.

Six months before that fateful night in Manhattan when a bullet from a Glock blew two holes in Plaxico’s leg (and sent him to prison for 20 months), Burress crashed his $150,000 Mercedes into a car near a toll plaza. In December 2011, a jury entered a $125,000 verdict in favor of the other driver.

Burress, whose insurance expired three days before the accident, has yet to pay.

“The general sense is that we are going to have to get the money the hard way,” attorney Anthony Quackenbush told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Burress has now been ordered to submit by the middle of May a full disclosure of his income (currently, none), his real estate holdings, and his bank accounts.

Burress currently is appealing the judgment, which is reason enough to not pay. But in the event the appeal fails, here’s hoping he does the right thing and write a check for the harm that a court of law has determined he caused.

A one-year deal in 2011 paid Burress $3 million. In four weeks and one day of free agency, Burress has not yet joined a new team.

And a judicial order
bradshaw44 : 5/8/2012 11:11 pm : link
prevents him from using Bankruptcy as an option. One way or another he is paying this victim the money. One of the few exceptions to bankruptcy discharges are judicial decisions. He should just pony up the money.

I wonder how much his lawyer is costing. I think his wife is a lawyer so maybe she or someone else she knows is working pro-bono.
Unless there is more to the story
steve in ky : 5/8/2012 11:13 pm : link
He should be a responsible person and pay what he owes. Pretty lousy to try and avoid it.
I couldn't care less
BigBlueinSoFl : 5/8/2012 11:17 pm : link
if he wound up on the 'skins, eagle or cowboys. He was a non factor in the game vs. the Jets (3-34, whoopdeedoo) that was supposed to be his big chance to "show us" or "get revenge" or whatever they were hyping it up to be. He's washed up and who cares where he lands.
And the rest of the story
sphinx : 5/8/2012 11:17 pm : link
His wife, Tiffany, is a personal injury lawyer specializing in, you guessed it, car accidents.

His wife is a lawyer
wgenesis123 : 5/8/2012 11:36 pm : link
who specializes in car accidents and his insurance lapsed, whats wrong with that picture? Either she isn't much of a lawyer or she learned the hard way she has to monitor Plax bills.
Wg
bradshaw44 : 5/8/2012 11:38 pm : link
Just cause she's a lawyer who specializes in car accidents doesn't mean she's good at accounting:)
If you lived with Plaxico
BigBlueinSoFl : 5/8/2012 11:38 pm : link
for some period of time and didn't realize that you needed to be the one in charge of the family's paperwork and accounts instead of him, well....not sure what else you can say about that.
Yeah, the fact that she's a car accident lawyer
Dave in Hoboken : 5/8/2012 11:41 pm : link
and this is still an issue certainly adds another layer of strangeness to this. She's either not a very good lawyer or just doesn't care if they pay the fine or not. Either way, not good and not cool.

apparently not or she just did not give a crap, because she had to know that knucklehead was capable screwing the pooch!

Book it.

And well said Steve in Ky
I honestly wonder if people that are that loaded
bradshaw44 : 5/8/2012 11:59 pm : link
Think they are so invincible that they over look small things such as car insurance because they can handle anything that happens if something does go wrong.

I would imagine such a high profile, high income household would have a personal accountant. And if that's the case shouldn't he/she have been on top of the car insurance payment? I wonder if an accountant could be held liable for that in court. I haven't come across that in my studies of regulation yet.
Looks like Plax...
JB in NJ : 5/9/2012 12:14 am : link
is entering the "vet minimum" phase of his career.
"vet minimum"
wgenesis123 : 5/9/2012 1:12 am : link
Perhaps but Plax maybe to stubborn to accept such a deal. Could be a good risk for the right team, I remember people last year saying it would take Plax a year to get his speed back, if that is true this would be the season it would show. I wonder what Plax would look like in orange?
I really think it's going to be washington that
bradshaw44 : 5/9/2012 1:15 am : link
scoops him up. Other teams I think would take a look would be Miami, Denver and as mentioned above philly.
If only

125 grand from Plax. I think he still owes the guys who cut his grass in Pittsburgh a few hundred bucks. He appears to be very irresponsible with money. The fact that he let his car insurance expire proves that.
Eagles
Dylan fan : 5/9/2012 8:28 am : link
Who & when was the last 34 year old player they signed? They let Dawkins walk at 35. Speaking of which, the Eagles are retiring his # during the week 4 Giants game.
I hope for Plax's sake
an_idol_mind : 5/9/2012 8:42 am : link
that he's smarter with his money than he is with the other decisions in his life. He's got a wife and kids who should be well off thanks to his playing career, even if he doesn't sign with a new team.
As to him owing money to people,
an_idol_mind : 5/9/2012 8:43 am : link
doesn't he still owe Feagles a kitchen for buying his number?
Guys,
NJGiantFan84 : 5/9/2012 10:00 am : link
I dislike Plax as much as anybody at this point, but he is not holding out the $125,000 from the victim, he is appealing the decision. When entering an appeal, you don't pay until after the appeal is heard.

Football wise, the only teams that would want him are teams in the re-building stage. He doesn't want to go through that. he wants to be on a team in contention, but teams in contention don't need him. He could wait until injuries start hitting and I'm sure somebody will grab him. Knowing him, he'd be happy to miss training camp.
He'll have an offer by

Can the man play Special Teams
TheDream88 : 5/9/2012 3:03 pm : link
if no, he is not even a thought for the Giants.

I can not see the Giants dressing both Barden and Randle on gameday since neither is a likely contributor on special teams, let alone add another NON ST WR in Plax.
