@TomRock_Newsday: Lawrence Taylor is auctioning off his New York Giants Super Bowl XXV ring, according to a release I just received.
Sad.

Here is

not really suprised, probably hurting for money after all the lawyer fees... amazing.. that guy
this is not a surprise to me

Pony up!

Current bid $37,982
Even if I could afford it, I don't think I could own LT's SB ring
jcn56 : 5/17/2012 10:49 am : link
Just something wrong about that, karma-wise, if you ask me.
I think it was Mark Bavaro or somebody....
Britt in VA : 5/17/2012 10:51 am : link
that wanted to fight a guy who was wearing a Giants Superbowl Ring at a Golf Tournament that wasn't on the team, but had bought it in an auction like this...

I don't know if I'm remembering the story correctly, but I believe something like that happened.
Do you
Josh in the City : 5/17/2012 10:52 am : link
guys remember in 2008 when one of the players lost their ring and some random guy found it and posted on the Internet about it? I believe it was eventually returned to the player but crazy story.
This was
Josh in the City : 5/17/2012 10:57 am : link
the story...forgot which "rookie player" it was though.

Sad day
Antdog23 : 5/17/2012 11:18 am : link
.... LT must be pretty hard up. Actually I'm surprised he didn't sell this sooner to be honest.
if I was rich
djm : 5/17/2012 11:21 am : link
i'd buy the ring and then give it back to him and say "this ring belongs to you, Mr Taylor."

But I own a Nissan Altima.
Kinda hard to feel sorry for him
jcn56 : 5/17/2012 11:26 am : link
especially when you figure he can just sign a picture of himself and get good money for it these days.
I wonder what the reserve is....as it said it wasn't met...
GiantBlue : 5/17/2012 11:36 am : link
probably $50,000. Just guessing.
On one hand, he's put himself in this position
Greg from LI : 5/17/2012 11:40 am : link
He made more money in 12 years than I'll make in a lifetime and pissed it all away.

On the other hand......I'm still just an awestruck kid after all these years and it just plain sucks.
Missing Ring
Bramton1 : 5/17/2012 12:09 pm : link
I don;t think they ever revealed who the player was that lost their ring, just that he was really excited to get it back.
This can't be real.
shepherdsam : 5/17/2012 12:11 pm : link
He must be jerking us around.
Sammy,
Big Blue '56 : 5/17/2012 12:13 pm : link
Will I, Emily and Pat see you at camp?
Sad and pathetic
ZogZerg : 5/17/2012 12:16 pm : link
Is he keeping the 90 ring or did he already pawn it?
Man, I wish.
shepherdsam : 5/17/2012 12:16 pm : link
Once again, I doubt very much it's going to happen but I refuse to rule it out just yet.
Emily and Pat just dried up

Amazing player.
Exit 172 : 5/17/2012 12:17 pm : link
Mess of a human being.

LT, Meggett, and Ingram have tarnished my memory of that championship team a little bit.
Think of all the coke
BigBlue TT : 5/17/2012 12:18 pm : link
residue in that ring.

Don in DC : 5/17/2012 12:26 pm : link
I have been having similar thoughts. It would really be cool to do that -- cooler than having the ring itself.

Of course, it would probably be smart to make him agree never to sell it again before giving it to him.
djm...
rnargi : 5/17/2012 12:29 pm : link
I was thinking the same thing. And my car is 11 years old, so...there's that...

rnargi : 5/17/2012 12:30 pm : link
LOL! Maybe THAT'S where the money is!
Not surprised
58Burst : 5/17/2012 12:34 pm : link
but no less saddened to see this. The league should hire him to visit each year's rookie class, to lecture on how not to run your affairs as an NFL player.
Someone like Phil Simms
wgenesis123 : 5/17/2012 3:39 pm : link
should buy it and hold on to it, you can not just give it back to LT, he may be compelled to sell it again.
I agree with Exit
mfsd : 5/17/2012 4:18 pm : link
These teams provided some of my greatest memories as a sports fan, but it bums me out how much some of these guys suck at life

The perpetual lesson, as always...be careful who you put on a pedestal
Maras buy the ring. Display it in Giants front offices.
CardinalX : 5/17/2012 5:51 pm : link
Say it will always belong to LT (with a legal caveat that he may never sell the ring, nor remove it from the NYG's premises unless he buys it back lol.) one of the greatest Giants ever!
Someone once wrote
BlackLight : 5/17/2012 5:54 pm : link
that buying someone's personal championship award or trophy or ring is probably bad luck. Like buying a haunted house.
So how does this auction thing work?
shepherdsam : 5/17/2012 5:54 pm : link

agree
Scotty9678 : 5/17/2012 6:28 pm : link

with the sentiment that it'd be great if it ended up on dispay at the NFL Hall of Fame or Giants Stadium version; but that's likely not to happen.

Pawn Stars anyone?

...
SanFranGiantsFan : 5/17/2012 6:44 pm : link
LT's having that much financial problems? Damn.

Really sad to see.
Bid up to
ChathamMark : 5/17/2012 7:05 pm : link
$89,658.
Mark
darasman : 5/17/2012 7:27 pm : link
I know where you can one a little cheaper..lol
That's going to buy him a lot
BigBlueinSoFl : 5/17/2012 7:34 pm : link
of.....nevermind.
Daras
ChathamMark : 5/17/2012 7:37 pm : link
well, that ring is clearly $89,000+ out of my poor-ass price range...

Now if I was a millionaire I would buy it and give it back to LT, on the condition he take a bunch of us out to dinner and tell us every crazy story of his life. (and sign a bunch of our crap....)
Mark he would love that and throw in a round of golf
darasman : 5/17/2012 7:42 pm : link
ashamed that he has to sell this ring......I met him with Banks at Carl's charity golf outing...signed a football for me and my girls...funny and likes having a good time..obviously
Wow
mrvax : 5/17/2012 7:59 pm : link
It's amazing what people can afford to buy. This doesn't compare with some works of art that have sold for $20M +.
The LT thing is sad
David B. : 5/17/2012 8:03 pm : link
But which IDIOT from the 07 team wore his ring to the beach and lost it?
