NGT - "The Arm" has earned legendary status at Redskins Camp

RGIII's teammates are in awe of the power, range, and accuracy of his passing

huh. We'll see.
The NFC East is no longer the Least

but the Beast! Toughest division in football is BACK... love it. If we can just get our running game going we will be F.I.N.E. fine... :) Go Giants!
good...now we have a retort

i got your arm right here... now go get ya shine box

but the reports coming out of DC are his has looked great.
Still much ado. Shells and shorts. WoW!
Big Blue '56 : 6/1/2012 8:13 am : link
Let's see how he looks after pre-season when teams are coming at him full speed and he's taking the pounding, even when he takes off..Then I'll gove him any deserved props....

Sheesh, it wasn't until the Parcells era until they even started having minicamps I believe..
give him

Let's see what happens when he has JPP, Tuck and Osi chasing his ass!

Unless he plays at a Pro Bowl level this year...
Phil from WNY : 6/1/2012 8:18 am : link
this kid is going to have a lot of people turn on him. This constant talk about how great he is will set up expectations that he likely won't meet.

He's already been awarded the starting job and now they're crowning him the next great QB. It's a lot of pressure to put on the young man.
Don't 'the reports out of Washington'
jcn56 : 6/1/2012 8:19 am : link
all originate from Snyder owned communications outlets?

Kinda like saying 'the reports out of Iran is that the uranium is for energy only'.

Perhaps not analogous, but in terms of hype and expectations
Big Blue '56 : 6/1/2012 8:23 am : link
who can forget when Spurrier had the Skins tearing it up during the pre-season? I make my "just stay healthy" during the pre-season statement every year, so here we go again.

As always, I wait and see when the real action starts and even THEN, it can take 3-4 games into the season before players/teams begin to gel

it's the players at camp who are making the comments.

If we had Giant players raving about David Wilson, we'd be pretty darn excited.
E,
Big Blue '56 : 6/1/2012 8:25 am : link
not really. Some of us would wait and pray he stays healthy
I learned my lesson after I thought Damon Washington
Big Blue '56 : 6/1/2012 8:28 am : link
would make it big after watching him wow many of us during the preseason. Never again...
Reports out of training camp 2 years ago was Ramses Barden

This may
muhajir : 6/1/2012 8:33 am : link
be good. All the early praise and nicknames may foster some arrogance/pompousness inside of him which could lead to a lack of work ethic. Lack of work ethic may lead to early struggles, clashes, depression, bath salt use, cannibalism and snowball affect from there
Blah blah blah.....
damdevs : 6/1/2012 8:35 am : link
and the initial reports out of camp when Eli was a rookie was that he was the worst QB they've ever seen lace them up.

If the clown can't read a D then all of his skill means jack shit! If he can then it will be fun to watch us get after him.
Kyle Boller
Pete in MD : 6/1/2012 8:37 am : link

He might be...
Matt G : 6/1/2012 8:38 am : link
But may as well wait for the real bullets to start flying... Jeff George had the most powerful arm that I've ever seen...
Again, as with Cam Newton(who had no playbook until lockout
Big Blue '56 : 6/1/2012 8:39 am : link
ended), once it's proven on the field during the real season, RG will get plenty of props from me
He's flinging it around in shorts
redbeard : 6/1/2012 8:41 am : link
not too surprising that a massively talented kid would look great.

Let's wait until he get on the field against the rest of the NFC East and JPP, Tuck, Osi, Kiwi, Ware, Cole and Babin are chasing him around. Then we can talk about how good he looks
We'll see if he earns legendary status when games start for real
Greg from LI : 6/1/2012 8:43 am : link
Until then, he's just another rookie QB. One who plays in an offense with a lousy OL and a weak WR corps.
Pretty good article
ctc in ftmyers : 6/1/2012 8:52 am : link
Actually states that there in no training camp intensity, pass rush, etc. Realized that after injuring his knee in his sophomore year that he had to become a pass first guy. Boom or bust? who knows? He'll have the same chance to prove himself as the guy drafted before him.
Hahahahaha

When does the reporting out of DC say otherwise on anything? Mike Shanahan could take a crap on a piece of bread, call it a sandwich, and show it to reporters and they'd say it was the best sandwich ever made.

Doc Walker is priceless

I remember wayyyy back when CSN Midatlantic was Home Team Sports, there used to be a Redskins Magazine show with Doc Walker and Monte Coleman, and it was the most ridiculous homer show of all time.
Doc Walker is a former player....
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:03 am : link
and just another minion on Snyder's payroll that works for the "unbiased" Redskins media.

Doc Walker, Larry Michael, Sonny Jergenson, Sam Huff, I forget the other clown in the booth with those last two loons.
the thing about this article is
gidiefor : Mod : 6/1/2012 9:03 am : link
there's no predictions - just comments from a bunch of RGIII's teammates being in awe of the kid's arm - and what he can do with it. Rex Grossman actually sounds jealous and intimidated by it.

Not for nothing - but the skins getting a good QB makes them very dangerous competitors
Does it, though?
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:04 am : link
Cam Newton had a fantastic rookie year. Didn't stop them from going 6-10.

let's discount next season and take the long view here - the skins haven't had a decent QB in a Looooong Time…

If this kid has half the tools and smarts being reported - the Skins are going to be for real.
btw
gidiefor : Mod : 6/1/2012 9:08 am : link
do you have any doubts that Carolina is going to be better than last year?

Cam Newton is the real deal.
Yawn
area junc : 6/1/2012 9:09 am : link
The skins break out the hype whenever they can and havent had a good qb prospect in a long time.

Vick has a jaw dropping Arm too: in this league its about reading defenses and delivering on time....well see!
I was in awe
bois : 6/1/2012 9:09 am : link
Of Jamarcus Russel's throwing ability during warmups of a game at Giants Stadium. Guy had a cannon, just effortlessly flinging it all over the place. It was hard not to glance across the field and notice Eli simply didn't have that natural ability, that throwing power.

Giants won 44-7.
Good luck RGIII
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:10 am : link
Quote:
The Redskins had a depth problem on the line last year, and the general consensus seems to be that they didn't do much to address it this offseason. They still have an issue at right tackle if Jammal Brown can't get over his hip problems.

guys
RD in CT : 6/1/2012 9:10 am : link
Cam Newton had arguably the best rookie season ever for a quarterback, and his team was under .500. Even if you think he can emulate the stats that Cam Newton did last year (and even if you think RGIII is great, you can't bank on that), its not a given that the redskins are going to be great.

They should be solid and competitive, nothing more IMO. If he does pan out, this year isn't the year to be nervous, it's the future.
You know who really has to love these reports?
jcn56 : 6/1/2012 9:10 am : link
Browns fans.

I mean, they have to want someone dead in the FO over there right about now, right?
it's hard to impress you guys - lol
gidiefor : Mod : 6/1/2012 9:11 am : link
if the reports were he was stinking it up - you'd be laughing about how foolish the skins were - I never saw any respect coming out of fellow teammates for Russell. Never ever.
We've been playing against great QB's....
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:12 am : link
for awhile now in this division. We have the solution for that. Good pass rush. I'm not worried no matter how he looks.

He should be worried about his offensive line when he plays us.
Britt
gidiefor : Mod : 6/1/2012 9:13 am : link
the skins beat us twice last year - with Rex Grossman at the helm - and that flawed Offensive line
Yawn.
AcidTest : 6/1/2012 9:13 am : link
Everybody knew RGIII had a cannon, and he has certainly looked as good as anyone could expect, but he hasn't even played a preseason game.

As others have noted, Cam Newton had an insane rookie year, and the Panthers were still 6-10.
Fluke. We were due.
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:15 am : link
We had beat them how many times in a row up to that point? 8 or 9?

Either way, I'll believe it when I see it. Money talks, and bullshit walks, and the Redskins have been doing a lot of walking for the past decade.
I'm sure Griffin will be fine
bois : 6/1/2012 9:16 am : link
Just having fun with it.
the Redskins won three games other than the two with us
Greg from LI : 6/1/2012 9:18 am : link
Total, complete fluke. Not going to happen this year.
There must
ctc in ftmyers : 6/1/2012 9:19 am : link
be a different article linked some where. This one doesn't predict success, failure,or record. Talks about arm strength and accuracy. Something we all knew about before he was drafted.
Well the Panthers sucked...
Dunedin81 : 6/1/2012 9:19 am : link
because their defense sucked. Newton was not the problem.
Right, my point in bringing up Cam Newton...
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:20 am : link
was that one man does not make a team. That's also why I posted the article about the Redskins offensive line, who you haven't heard a peep about this year, because they suck.
Get this effin season started already!

But it is similar....
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:33 am : link
in highlighting how ridiculous trying to judge the upcoming season in the early offseason is.

However, I expect RGIII to have a considerably better career than Awasom.
whoa whoa whoa
Greg from LI : 6/1/2012 9:35 am : link
Are you sure you want to go that far out on a limb?
I think the guy will be good, RGIII that is....
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:36 am : link
I like him. He seems like a smart kid and a helluva athlete.

BUT, that franchise has been terrible for over a decade. It starts up top. Bruce Allen is no great franchise builder either. Shanahan is an average coach. They dug a huge hole for themselves over the past decade with all of their sh-tty signings.

And what's really going to sting them, is that lost 18 million this year in dead money, 18 million next year, and they don't have a first round pick until 2015.

That's typical Redskins. Until that BS stops, I'm not impressed. They suck.
The Giants are the best, most talented team in the division.
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:38 am : link
The rest of the division should fear us.

They have the best coach, the best QB, the best pass rusher(s), and the best depth across the board.

We are talented everywhere.
And sorry for my enthusiasm....
Britt in VA : 6/1/2012 9:38 am : link
I'm fired up this morning.
He's
dorgan : 6/1/2012 9:39 am : link
a great athlete.
But, you just never know how things will turn out with a young QB.

For those of you too young to remember, check out the linked video of one of the best arms I've ever seen.
He put Terry Bradshaw on the bench for a while and by rights should have stayed the starter in Pittsburgh.

it's about as humble as you'll ever see Bradshaw. He knew Gilliam was more talented than he was and you can see it in his eyes during that interview.

I remember him well. He could throw a football through a sheet of plywood.
Obviously, that team will probably get worse before it gets better.
Mark C : 6/1/2012 1:24 pm : link
Let's just hope that, by the time RGIII gets through the growing pains, the owner will have the team shackled to a few more big stupid contracts again.
arm strength

Word. Just remember though, the Giants aren't winning Super Bowls now just because they got Eli. It started there, but they had to make a whole lot more smart personnel decisions and manage the salary cap, none of which Skins ownership has shown a capacity to do...
I hope he ends up good
Go Terps : 6/1/2012 2:31 pm : link
I believe that our own success is due in part to the general quality of the division. By the time we make the playoffs we've usually already played huge games.

Greatness isn't acheived by ducking anybody.
