It will be interesting to c which way giants go with their groundgame.
32nd will not be tolerated.
they want to go beatty-boothe-baas-snee-diehl.
they have an entire offseason to restructure the run game if it's a systematic problem. (they've re-designed their run plays in the offseason, before) for instance when shockey left they took the emphasis off the te at the p.o.a.
and started using boss out of a 2pt. stance when they could
what is interesting is they might have a better zone blocking OLine mixed with "power" players at supplemental blocking - TE martellus bennett and fb henry hynoski.
they may not have the power o.tackles
also at tailback, bradshaw, wilson and scott (and not jacobs) may be best in zone, using their cutback ability and vision to pick the best route
i'm sure theyll use a little of both styles but what will they lean on??
Wow I just watched this episode and the writer is totally on point about the helmet thing when with Dallas. Bennett at one point even sarcastically laughs at the Hard Knocks cameraman after Dallas TE coach was coaching him up. The coach walked away and he just laughed into the camera like "F this guy"
That was 4 years ago when he was a 22 year old rookie during pre-season. Since I'm sure way more than a few people have matured at least somewhat from age 22 to 26, I wouldn't rely on that show to consider Bennett a lazy turd at this point in his career. Reese & Coughlin interviewed him & were obviously happy enough w/ his maturity to sign him, so I'll go w/ their evaluation of him rather than some dipshits on message boards & blogs.
that people here feel that a reality TV show from 4 seasons ago is an useful tool to make an accurate judgement on a player's personality. Or even dumber, that most of us here will turn on our TV and agree with them
To me, it's a slam dunk: MB will thrive under Pope. Â
Im telling you he's going to be lining up as the starter week one. As someone said above, its hard to come to work everyday knowing you aren't going to contribute much. Look at what Shiancoe did in Minny after leaving the G-Men when he was playing behind Shockey. I think this guy is going to breakout. People forget how much Eli's ability will help him when he's route running. Who will be starting over him??? People say hes lazy and whatever but until I see it with him wearing Giant blue I wont take blogs and rumors into account. Dallas never used him bc they didnt have to. Their offense really doesnt use 2TE sets, relying on more WR's and Witten.
he wasn't really all that different 3 years ago either Â
But they couldn't. Because Bennett wasn't good enough to merit that type of focus, outside of his blocking abilities.
Frankly, while the Giants have a good QB, the Cowboys have a pretty good one in their own right -- there was no QBing issue in play to excuse why he was mostly a bust in Dallas. And Eli's not going to run the routes or catch the ball for him here (two things he had/has? problems with), as we've seen plenty of guys during this era struggle with those things. Pope, as good as he also is, isn't some guaranteed magician either.
He's not getting cut and he is going to see a lot of playing time if he's healthy, so this blogger is quite off-base, but really, so is a lot of the homerism shown in Bennett's favor now, as if he's suddenly a lock or even likely to be an entirely different player than he always has been, in both the pros and college, just because he's in blue -- if he was, he wouldn't be on a 1 year obvious show-me deal, given the current obsession with TEs.
why people start threads as if the "writer" is an actual writer is ridiculous - he is a fan just like you!
pat from inside football comes to this thread and gives information that real sportswriters get - from being in the locker room and around the team...you know, a person who actually has the job that the bloggers want but will never have
stop creating threads based on what bloggers write
i was referring to his personality and how he approaches the game with that, not his run blocking particularly
i was watching some of his youtube videos the other day and his personality didnt seem to be all that different than what he showed on hardknocks. except ofc that didn't include coaches asking him to run routes with effort or putting on his helmet
but yea id agree, he sounds like he has a strong reputation of superb run blocking

but i guess between 2010 and 2012 he went thru great maturity and his approach to the game took a 180. Certainly plausible
But I'll believe it when I see it
