I read that he is going to USA Today. I would imagine that means he is done with the Giants, but do not know that for sure. If this has been talked about, I will delete, but did not see it on first two pages.
is owned by the same company that owns the Syracuse newspaper, which announced today that they are cutting back their print edition to 3 days a week. I would assume that the Star-Ledger is downsizing their operation.
complete garbage to read. I hated it, and so did my students. That said, I'm happy for Mike because it's obviously a step up for him w/respect to exposure. I'm sad of course because he's not going to be covering the Giants anymore, and he happens to be the best there is in that department. Definitely mixed emotions, but we've all gotta wish him the best. He deserves it.
Marc Craig going to cover Mets for Newsday made no sense. It is not like Newsday is a better paper than the Star Ledger. If anything, they are equals. Sad that we are losing a good talent like Mike.
good for him - he'll be missed but the guy deserved a wider
Garafolo is good, but I think its mostly in comparison with the crap competition. You don't see him breaking down tape in any kind of sophisticated way, getting scoops from scouts or GMs, doing any kind of interesting original analysis. It's unfortunate that in NY we have such shitty sports journalists.
...remember around this time. last year he had the videos where he would comment on the team status. I'll always remember him for showing his pure emotion in the video about the current roster. "THAT'S NOT IT!!!" I am going to see if I could find it.
I think mike did the best with what he had. The giants don't bend over backward to give reporters complete access. He broke down games like everyone else. Nfl rewind.
I think mike was the best of the bunch. Pat Traina is also fantastic.
Ralph seems to be into the negative angle more, and hanlon has a very short temper with him and Schwartz
our beat guys suck. If you watch the Giants.com interviews, you basically have what there stories will be, minus the filler to string the quotes together.
When's the last time you heard anything interesting from an opposing scout on one of our players? Or got any kind of solid breakdown of a game that any reasonably knowledgeable fan couldn't have given? Or seen any kind of quantitative analysis? The guy from the NYTs blog is the only one who I've occasional seen doing that.
you do realize that if you are on Giants.com...you represent the GIANTS and do not tell their secrets, right? RIGHT???
Holy stupid, Batman. If a beat writer publishes something that will hurt the team, that's the LAST time they're going to get information from the team.
in his reviews you don't just get the typical game summaries, you get concrete analysis and breakdowns of assignments or technique. hes very football intelligent and knows his sh_t.
Can someone please do an infographic pie chart in color showing the percentage of fans who will miss his coverage, here are the perctlentages:
23% will miss him
12% wished he covered the Jets
14% wish he covered Justin Tuck more
18% wished he covered Justin Beber more
33% wished he could play CB at this pont
He was by far our best beat reporter, and it was obvious to anyone who paid attention. And when you're the best beat reporter for a team in the nation's biggest media market, it's only a matter of time before a national publication comes calling.
I used to read all the papers religiously. Now I watch the full press conferences and pretty much hear what they hear before they decide to write a story.
This is a similar route that guys like Ian Rappaport and Adam Schefter have taken. Start as a beat reporter, move on to a national coverage for a paper or magazine, and then the NFL comes calling.
So I expect to see him there sooner than later.
Do any of you know how the press conferences work?
Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Lets hope Jorge learned something from him.
And you're straight up wrong. He rewatches game tape and provides plenty of original analysis.
It's going to suck not having him covering the Giants.

it will never be the same...

Figures
Congrats to MG on his new gig, but it sucks...

Big congrats, MG.
Our loss, the rest of the country's gain.
