Doesn't Sound Like Amukamara is Coming Back Soon

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/6/2012 8:16 pm
He hasn't started running yet.

“It’s not necessarily a tight feeling, it’s just sometimes when I load it, I just feel pain,’’ said Amukamara. “The trainers explained to me that pain isn’t good and they just told me the whole 1, 2, 3 of the injury. I’ve just been trying not to put a lot of pressure on it lately.’’

"I don’t know, I don’t know (about Amukamara)," said Coughlin. "I’m not sure about that guy. He’s trying though; he’s trying like heck."

This doesn't surprise
JoefromPa : 9/6/2012 8:18 pm : link
me, up to now he has been an oft injured slow healer player.

Thinking that he might be the answer to the woeful play of the defensive back field is a bit disconcerting
The only good news, is that
barens : 9/6/2012 8:19 pm : link
there's a longer rest period until the next game. I don't expect him back for next week, but at least we're not close to the next game yet.

Speaking of injuries, I wonder how we made out last night? The Giants always seem to keep their injuries under raps for a long time.
Just great

They need to sign someone like Jennings or McFadden.
How
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/6/2012 8:19 pm : link
has he been a slow healer?

He had surgery on his foot last year in camp and they rushed him back from that.

High ankle sprains can linger all year.
Fantastic.

Amazing. I can't explain just how much I love Prince.

you are mad at a player for being legitimately hurt?
Eric, no.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/6/2012 8:22 pm : link
But I am frustrated he has started out his first two seasons as a pro with injuries. And even more frustrated that his replacement got hurt in the very first game of the season. Hello, Justin Tryon for the foreseeable future. I've never seen the same position decimated by injuries in back to back years, and we're only in Week 1.
Sounds like he'll be feeling better for the second half of the season,
Rico : 9/6/2012 8:24 pm : link
which the last few years has demonstrated that that is what really matters.

He played well for us in the playoffs last year, so he should only improve this year.
This is going to bring a whole

lot of stupid out.
Its important to remember
MarshallOnMontana : 9/6/2012 8:26 pm : link
that other than New Orleans or Green Bay, Dallas is probably the most lethal passing attack we will see all season. We're not seeing anything like them for about 2 months when we meet them again. Prince will be back, maybe a week or two later than we hope. But I don't think the teams on our upcoming schedule are as equipped to expose us as they currently are. Romo takes shit here but the guy is one of the best on the planet.
i think we

He'll probably be back Week 8 or so.

Didn't he just say he was still targeting a Week 2 return?
arcarsenal : 9/6/2012 8:32 pm : link
I don't necessarily think that's going to happen but I wouldn't be surprised if he was back in a couple weeks. He said he was feeling better and improving even though he hasn't run full speed yet.

I feel bad for the guy.. he's had some really shitty injury luck to start out his young career. I know he can play, he just needs to get back on the field and stay there.
He did say Week 2 very recently.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/6/2012 8:34 pm : link
I don't know what happened that changed that. I guess he is still experiencing pain, like he is quoted here. Hopefully, Coe can go next week, because Tryon struggles out there.
its ok

we will need him for the first Eagles game though..

We can go without him for Tampa and Carolina.

What does this mean:

"I’m not sure about that guy..."

Does it mean 'Im not up to date on his med condition' or does it mean 'I dont know if he has what it takes to play in the NFL?'
It will be 6 weeks

from the time he had the high ankle sprain untill he returns
I wouldn't read too much into it..
arcarsenal : 9/6/2012 8:45 pm : link
I think he simply means he's not sure when he's going to be ready to go.

Matt in SGS : 9/6/2012 8:51 pm : link
Coughlin qualifies it by saying that Prince is trying to get back out there. If he was questioning his desire/heart, he wouldn't have said that part. It sounds like is statement is simply that he's not sure when he'll be healthy enough to play, but it's not Prince dogging it.
Seriously?

Well, if a poster on a forum said it then its gospel. We have so many prognosticators and doctors that contribute on this forum, we are so fortunate...

I was interrupted and did not read the "he's trying like heck" comment until now. I take back what I said.
I did recall Parcells tho

I'm asking because I have no idea and clearly you do.

Does it make any difference that it's a mild high ankle sprain? Could it be less than 6 weeks because that it's a mild? Or did you already take that into consideration when you said 6 weeks?

Thanks.

What exactly is a high ankle sprain anyway? I'd love a legit explanation from an actual MD like yourself. And do you mean 6 weeks from injury, or 6 weeks from now? Any input is appreciated.
Didn't I read
pjcas18 : 9/6/2012 9:19 pm : link
somewhere he was able to jump on his ankle? Did I make that up?

Sounded like progress to me if I could only find where I saw it.

A high ankle sprain, also known as a syndesmotic ankle sprain, is a sprain of the syndesmotic ligaments that connect the tibia and fibula on the lower leg. Syndesmotic ankle sprains are known as high because their location on the lower leg is above the ankle.[1] Unlike common ankle sprains when ligaments around the ankle are torn or receive injury through an inward twisting, high ankle sprains are caused when the lower leg and foot twist out

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and while I was there I went on wikipedia :)

A high ankle sprain (syndesmotic sprain)....
rmc3980 : 9/6/2012 9:34 pm : link
is a sprain of the ligaments (syndesmotic) that connect the two long bones of the lower leg (outer-fibula, inner-larger tibia). Unlike an inversion ankle sprain (rolling your ankle inward) which can result in tearing of one or more of your three lateral ankle ligaments or your peroneal brevis tendon, a high ankle sprain is when you foot externally rotates causing a strain/sprain of your connecting ligaments. A high ankle sprain is graded I, II and III by severity and is not to be confused with a high ankle (Maisonneuve) fracture. Prince has a Grade I sprain (from reports) which will normally take approximately six weeks from onset of injury to resolution of symptoms. Much longer for a II and II (with III being a up to a year or longer) Nicks had the opposite injury....an inversion sprain where the peroneal brevis tendon was stronger than the bone and as a result caused an avulsion of bone from the base of the fifth metatarsal. The problem oftentimes with this injury is (1) poor blood supply to affected bone delaying healing and (2) continued pull of the brevis tendon which further distracts the fracture site and impedes healing and thus the stem cell injection to promote faster healing. Nicks injury is technically worse than Prince's however both should not be long term problems
With apologies to Sneakers..

injury prone coming out of School but is there a good
reason why he dropped in the draft .
I think we expected much more than we got so far .
Now if he does not progress or heal quickly it's
a Big hit to the defense . I like Coe but we went from
having four or five very good corners to one in
a damn hurry .
How does a player fall because of injury concerns in a draft...

...when he was healthy for pretty much his entire college career? If I'm not mistaken, he played in every game as a Junior and a Senior.
