Gruden's comentary last night

RetroJint : 12/4/2012 7:01 am
was the disgustingly pro-Griffin, pro-Shanahan, pro-Redskin, biased genuflection that I've ever heard. He's officially a non-person as far as I'm concerned. What a suck ass! The Redskins scored 17 points last night. The Giants win with a better snap from DeOssie. Having to listen to this jerk off last night was far worse than Aikman or Moose have ever been. Geez, use the Shout to get those grass stains off the knees of your pants, Chuckie. And, please, do sign up for your RG3 secret decoder ring, membership card and super hero comic book series. I would have thought Tirico would provide some balance-forget it.
You didn't have to listen to it
Wuphat : 12/4/2012 7:03 am : link
I would bet very good money that you have some means of controlling the volume when you watch things.
I don't have the same feeling after watching that game.
Beez : 12/4/2012 7:07 am : link

I thought he was fair. At one point, he was all over BOTH the quarterbacks, saying they're highly talented, but do things vastly differently.

Griffin got the win.

Moving on.
I watched it muted. Which is pretty sad.
Jints in Carolina : 12/4/2012 7:07 am : link
ESPN is a pile of shit. I didn't watch but maybe 5 minutes of pregame. Had MLB Network on. That's the best sports channel going,
These guys
steve in ky : 12/4/2012 7:09 am : link
are paid to hype the story at hand. They are trying to build excitement for the broadcast to people listening across the country, and sell the game. What did you expect?
I concur
jnoble : 12/4/2012 7:09 am : link
I was bitching the entire game about how much "RG3 IS THE BESTEST PLAYER EVER!!!" gushing was going on. Gruden needed little animated cartoon hearts in his eyes.
....
taterbug : 12/4/2012 7:10 am : link
gruden loves everything and everybody. i didn't think he was biased either way. he commentates as if he is high on ecstacy...he loves, loves and loves some more
Tough to build excitement with RGIII's dick in your mouth
Jints in Carolina : 12/4/2012 7:11 am : link
And 15 commercials between every play.
I was telling
lester : 12/4/2012 7:11 am : link
my friend the same thing. It was not his typical commentary, felt lie he was a homer at times.
.....
Micko : 12/4/2012 7:12 am : link
holy moly. Gruden was talking up the Giants all night long as well. That's just how he is....not to mention...RGIII deserves all the praise he's getting.
The snap wasn't significant
ConMan22 : 12/4/2012 7:23 am : link
The redskins would have scored that last drive if they wanted or needed to anyway. A better gameplan on offense in the red zone wins the game.
The holding penalty ...
Beez : 12/4/2012 7:29 am : link
was significant.
You have never heard Gruden
Geeman : 12/4/2012 7:29 am : link
gush about Eli and the Mannings???
Try to have a sense of balance, Gruden gushes about players every week. Griffin is a very exciting player, what's not to gush about?
This may go down as the greatest QB class ever!!!
Luck
Griffin
Wilson
Tannehill
Weeden
Foles?
This was a great crop of QBs.
The 04 class didn't play nearly this well as rookies.
Gruden gushes about everyone
JoeyBigBlue : 12/4/2012 7:31 am : link
He was giving Eli props as well.
I hope he gets a HC job so I don't have to listen to him anymore

ConMan22 : 12/4/2012 7:38 am : link
Agreed. Both the holding penalties in the fourth were backbreaking. The one on Cordle looked like a shitty call and the one on the Bennett catch was holding but they weren't calling any of that shit on the redskins ... We were losing last night before the game started.
Dont be a sore loser.
Curtis in VA : 12/4/2012 7:38 am : link
.
Yeah ... I can't comment on whether or not
Beez : 12/4/2012 7:39 am : link
they were calling that holding on the Skins ... but that was a very easy one to call for the officials.
Gruden didn't say a bad word about anyone last night...
Jan in DC : 12/4/2012 7:43 am : link
if Hitler had laced em up he would have praised him for his determination. He doesn't do any analyzing at all. He's a praise machine.
Hard not to complain when immediately following the wilson return
ConMan22 : 12/4/2012 7:45 am : link
We punt (probably wouldn't have been punting if not pinned at our 9 due to the penalty) and there's a block in the back in front of two refs on their return that goes uncalled.

Then there's the helmet to face on Nicks that looked like may have broken his nose.. Also uncalled. Say what you want, that game wasn't called evenly.
The commercials
Houston : 12/4/2012 7:47 am : link
WTF is with all the F'n commercials ...?!? Monday night, late, people need to get up the next day! Talk about dragging a game out! Anyone else get sick of London Fletcher "miked" for the game?
Biggest shit show ever
BBurns : 12/4/2012 7:48 am : link
If ever a game was bought off it was that one .
Whenever we gained momentum in the 2nd half
it was dashed away with a hanky .
From not showing key penalties ignoring blatant
pass interference .
Still in the end we score a couple of TD's
in the first half we should have won .
Bradshaw nearly had equal numbers running the ball .
The exception was the two big Runs Griffin broke
off . The ESPN telecast ignored the game to honor
Fletcher and Griffen . I did not think the Green Bay game could be topped .

Best defensive coordinator in the NFL goes to ESPN. Problem solved. (And you know Rex would be a freaking star in the booth)
Gruden is the reason
newmike2 : 12/4/2012 7:54 am : link
why I watch ESPN MNF with the sound off. I started about ten years with the constant Red Sox ballwashing that went on during Yankee/Sox games and muting made it tolerable. I just wish I had am synchronized radio broadcast available.

Can't stand the sequence of TD-review(ads)-XP-more ads-KO-ads again-1D,2D-end of quarter (more ads)

It didn't get that bad last night.
Gruden

Actually was spot on. He said he'd keep attacking deep all night because the safeties couldn't cover. It was there all night but we went to the short passing game and run run pass system for some reason. Had no issue with Gruden.
Gruden never complimented

That said, I hope Bob at least buys him breakfast this morning after the verbal BJ he got last night.

listening to him in the 4th quarter you would think that the Skins had 50 on the board with all TDs by RG3. What an asshole.

I thought Gruden

He is the Dick Vitale of Pro Football
Essex : 12/4/2012 9:10 am : link
he called DeAngelo Hall a shutdown corner.

ESPN is not interested in analysis, as some have said, they are interested in product enhancement. In other words, they have you and I locked into this as fans, why not go after the casual fan by talking up the game. By contrast, Dan Dierdorf doesn't bring the casual fan to the game with his grumpy analysis (and often wrong).
He
NJGiantFan84 : 12/4/2012 9:12 am : link
is pro-everyone, always praising, never saying a bad word about anybody. I didn't take away from it that he was pro-Bob.
The most annoying thing, and its not even close,
j_rud : 12/4/2012 9:21 am : link
was him harping on the running game and how it was pointless to continue to try. This started in the 3rd quarter, at which point the Giants were already beyond the Skins average allowed per game. Gruden is a pain in the ass but last night was something else entirely. I'm not sure Ive ever seen a broadcaster felate an entire team from the booth. Between the constant talk and countless flashy graphics I actually forgot the Giants were playing...
not gonna bash gruden...
jakedege : 12/4/2012 9:29 am : link
but man, the pacing and length of the commercials last night were HORRENDOUS

i was watching on the comcast streaming, which doesnt show commercials. so it pretty much broke down to 3 plays, 9 minutes of muzak, 2 plays, 9 minutes of muzak during review, etc. the game actually could have been over in 2 hours with the way both teams had loooong drives. ESPN gotta pay the bills i guess
how about the commercials during the 2 minute drill in the 1sr half?
Victor in CT : 12/4/2012 9:48 am : link
I don't think I've ever seen that before
Griffin fumbles in the red zone
4thand17 : 12/4/2012 9:49 am : link
and somehow it's chalked up to "the magic of RG3"

Gruden is unlistenable.

montanagiant : 12/4/2012 9:56 am : link
They decide on a storyline and push that agenda as much as possible. This is almost as bad as the Teabow storyline they pushed last year
Why not bash Gruden?
j_rud : 12/4/2012 9:59 am : link
Excitement is fine but he gets so damn amped that at times hes just making bad calls. Last night he tried to talk about the Giants run game and went off about misdirection. He says something like "this Giant run game is trying everything. You got Eli making adjustments, Hynoski goes one way, Bradshaw goes the other and Boy, lemme tell you...". The replay then showed a simple dive where Bradshaw followed Hynoski into the hole for 3 yard gain. Later on the broadcast missed a punt because they were too busy with theor graphics, Gruden drooling over 40 times and "sports science" while the actual game is being played out.

Literally the only time ESPN comes on my tv is when the Giants are on and each time there's a "Christ, they got worse since last time..." moment.

bullshit
djm : 12/4/2012 11:40 am : link
he raves about everyone but last night was a new low for ESPN. It was downright insulting.

I swear, Bob could have squatted at midfield and taken a steamy dump on 3rd down and Gruden would have praised it. ESPN just pushing the agenda as usual. HYPE HYPE HYPE and build the guy up to incredible and buzz generating heights. if he stays there, great, we build off that buzz and generate income. if he falters, even better as we can build off the fall, knock his ass down and generate even bigger buzz.

It's akin to marketing. Same fucking thing and it's insulting.
look at what ESPN and NFL net have done to Cam Newton
djm : 12/4/2012 11:43 am : link
and Vick and Romo. This is not a coincidence. They don't hype guys and then rip them to shreds because they feel like it. They do it to generate buzz and attention and RATINGS. What does the average mouth breathing mutant want to watch? Good insightful sports talk or drama and crazy cranky Cam Newton press conferences? Do they want to watch fair and objective analysis or see where Romo and his GF vacation at?

It's all bullshit. ESPN is the sports opiate for the masses. I fucking hate them.
