2013 Free Agemt Offensive Tackles & Guards.

Klaatu : 12/31/2012 11:20 am
Take your pick. My guess is the Giants will try and re-sign Beatty and Boothe to keep the left side of the line intact. Beyond that...your guess is as good as mine. I don't know if the Giants will have the money (or the inclination) to do much more than that in free agency.

Giants will keep their own Β
Blue Blood : 12/31/2012 11:22 am : link
and will not dip big time into the FA market..
Would love a shot at Long, Β
Keaton028 : 12/31/2012 11:23 am : link
not the Giants style though, nor do I think we have the cap room for it.
I've said this a few days ago Β
nyjuggernaut : 12/31/2012 11:23 am : link
I'd love to see Brandon Moore signed here. Guy hasnt missed a game in 8 years and would be a nice upgrade over Kevin Boothe.
How many will be re-signed? Β
Big Blue '56 : 12/31/2012 11:24 am : link
Each year, more and more teams are getting smarter, imo and re-signing their own instead of reaching out for crapshoots in FA..Crapshoots in the sense of the higher priced FA's fall in play once they secure that fat contract..

The Boothe and Locklear types seem to be the way Reese likes to go which as a fan I'm quite fine with
I'd love to see Β
Phil from WNY : 12/31/2012 11:25 am : link
Reese offer a mid-round pick for Gabe Carimi to see if they can resurrect his career. Cutler openly questioned whether he can play tackle in the NFL and at 6-7, he may be too tall to play guard.
Isn't Moore.... Β
BillKo : 12/31/2012 11:28 am : link
in his mid 30's already???

Anyway, I think Beatty and Boothe are both resigned, but I don't see us doing much in the FA market simply because I think we will be up against the cap.

We're probably going to have to rebuild that right side of the line thru the draft.
Ryan Clady Β

.
Reese hasn't been great at FA Β
chris r : 12/31/2012 11:31 am : link
he's overpaid for solid not great guys at positions of need.

Rolle, Boley, Canty and Baas were all need positions, were not great players prior to coming to the Giants, were over paid, and have predictably not lived up to their contracts since coming to the Giants.

It seems like Reese prefers overpaying based on need in FA rather than overdrafting based on need.

Hmmm... Β
Reb8thVA : 12/31/2012 11:33 am : link
Bushrod or Loadholt for RT.
Baker, Clady, Loadholt Β
old man : 12/31/2012 11:34 am : link
aren't going anywhere; just look at their teams, and Minn, and Denver(I think, have $$$$.
Radar FA's are almost always going to Β
Ash : 12/31/2012 11:34 am : link
be overpaid, nature of the game. That said, I think canty, when healthy, has been an excellent and valuable player.
Rashad Butler might fit the Sean Locklear role if he can stay healthy. Β
Big Blue Blogger : 12/31/2012 11:35 am : link
That's kind of a big "if". Since being drafted in the third round by the Panthers in 2006, Butler has dressed for just 42 of a possible 112 games. Ulcerative colitis and fluke injuries have reduced him to a footnote in Carolina and Houston.
I think if the Jints sign any of those guys it Β
jintsfan : 12/31/2012 11:39 am : link
will be as back ups. I think they will go after a RT in the draft.
Brandon Moore Β
stretch234 : 12/31/2012 11:40 am : link
He is 33 and has he played any better than Kevin Booth. I don't think so

I see Giants resigning both Beatty & Boothe. Letting Deihl go and signing thier token FA veteran T. Brewer will be the starter unless he is awful.
Gosder Cherilus might be available without breaking the bank. Β
Klaatu : 12/31/2012 11:45 am : link
I think he'd thrive under Coughlin and Flaherty, and anchor the right side for the next five or six years.
RT Β
giants1977 : 12/31/2012 11:57 am : link
Would luv to see the G-Men go after Andre Smith from Cincy. He would solidify our O-line for the next 5-7yrs ala Kareem Mckenzie. Big "?" is what is the deal with Son-in-law, that is the big unknown going into next season
Carini can't stay healthy Β
ChicagoMarty : 12/31/2012 1:42 pm : link
Patrick Mannelly is older then dirt and is a long snapper not a tackle. He isn't going anywhere

We need to draft a cb with our first pick then spend the next three picks on OL
CM, Β
Big Blue '56 : 12/31/2012 1:47 pm : link
I agree, but wouldn't be surprised if 2 of our first 3 or 4 picks are CBs..
CB in the first is a definite possibility. Β
Klaatu : 12/31/2012 1:49 pm : link
OL in the next three, not so much.
I like the thought of Β
redbeard : 12/31/2012 1:50 pm : link
Beatty at LT and Loadholt at RT but I'm not totally convinced Reese will go in that direction. I could see more Locklear type additions with hopes that the young guys step up

whatever they do, I hope it works. This offense struggled this year mostly due to the oline
Replace Snee with Β
mrvax : 12/31/2012 1:53 pm : link
a young huge guy like Louis Vasquez of the Chargers. Snee isn't worth over 6 million per. I doubt Coughlin will even consider this because of Snee being his son-in-law.

Vasquez - ( New Window )
2 names Β
hutch33 : 12/31/2012 1:54 pm : link
sam baker from atlanta and dennis roland from cincy....could be bookends for a long time.
We will keep Snee Β
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 12/31/2012 1:56 pm : link
but we do need to replace Diehl and Baas. Plus, we need two solid backups because you KNOW we will see an injury or two.
Klaatu, on another thread, Β
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 12/31/2012 1:57 pm : link
can you post the free agent LBs and then also post the free agent DL's? I think these three areas are of greatest concern for us.
EricJ Β
Neverend : 12/31/2012 1:57 pm : link
If you cut baas, the cap hit still remains. We're going to have to wait until 2014 to get an upgrade
Eric Β
redbeard : 12/31/2012 1:58 pm : link
I don't think we've seen the last of Baas. I'm fairly certain, due to his contract, he would end up costing us money if we cut him. Maybe they bring in someone to compete with him but he would be a mighty expensive backup if he's not a starter
I'm sure Coughlin and Snee have prepared themselves Β
mfsd : 12/31/2012 1:58 pm : link
for the fact Snee's days as a Giant will end eventually, and it may well be for cap reasons and be an unpleasant end

I'd like to see Snee back, but hopefully in better health after successful surgery, which is a big if...

I think Beatty is set at LT - would love to find a stud RT somewhere
... Β
redbeard : 12/31/2012 2:00 pm : link
They have to figure something out with Snee. He is paid a huge chunk of change and these past two years simply has not been worth the contract (and yes, I know injury has a lot to do with it)
I'd like to see Baas replaced Β
mrvax : 12/31/2012 2:00 pm : link
but it's too expensive right now.
Snee hasn't performed as a top level guard for 2 consecutive years. Something's wrong here. I'd love to upgrade him. I do not think it will happen though because he's Chris Snee.
Here's a thought: Β
Big Blue '56 : 12/31/2012 2:08 pm : link
I wonder when Snee goes, TC follows?

Doubt it, but they are family..;)
On Snee... Β
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 12/31/2012 2:13 pm : link
they both know that a player's life in the game is shorter than that of a coach....which is why TC is still coaching at his age. I am also sure that before Snee was drafted, they had a conversation about how their relationship on the field would be business only and that if tough decisions had to be made, then so be it.

It is possible that TC would help groom Snee to be an O-line coach.
EricJ...done. Β
Klaatu : 12/31/2012 3:18 pm : link
I won't post the free agent DBs. It's bad enough this site doesn't differentiate between DEs and DBs (or ILB/OLB), but it doesn't differentiate between CBs and Safeties, either, and that list is just way too long. I'll wait until Football'sFuture posts their complete FA lists (right now they only have the top prospects up).
FA Β
stretch234 : 12/31/2012 3:24 pm : link
Very few FA hit the market who are top end at their position. You dont get rid of great players.

Baker & Bushrod are not better than Beatty. Baker is really not that good.
I think the Giants will Β
pjcas18 : 12/31/2012 3:28 pm : link
possibly use the FT on Beatty. I want to re-sign him, but let's face it before this year he was a big question mark.

It might be safer than signing him long-term.
