Panthers "leaning" towards Dave Gettleman, Marc Ross safe?

Vin_Cuccs : 1/4/2013 7:24 pm
This is from Pro Football Talk.

If this has been posted, I will gladly delete.

Quote:
Five teams are currently looking for General Managers. Five days after the 2012 regular season ended, a loose sense is emerging as to how things will fall together.

Here’s the quick summary, as it’s currently making the rounds in league circles.

1. The Jets are expected to hire 49ers exec Tom Gamble (pictured).

2. The Jaguars are expected to hire Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell.

3. The Chiefs are expected to hire Packers director of operations John Dorsey.

4. The Cardinals are expected to promote Steve Keim.

5. The Panthers are believed to be leaning toward Giants executive Dave Gettleman.

It seems as if these are just guesses by Mike Florio, but if these guesses are correct it looks as if Marc Ross could be safe. Losing Gettleman would obviously hurt, but many believe Ross one of the best talent evaluators in the league.

Gettleman would hurt more than Ross in my opinion.

agreed
With the current GM musical chairs being played,

Ross might find himself without a chair.
NO!

FUCK! Losing Gettleman would hurt more than losing Ross. I hope this isn't true.
Much rather

keep Gettleman. He is our cap manger is he not. Ross is just an extension of Reese. His friend and an other glorified scout.
Kevin Abrams was the cap manager before I know

The Giants front office website doesn't state who is performing that duty now (unless I missed it).

Here's the link:

I just remembered that Gettleman got a promotion this year from being the Director of Pro Personnel to now being the Senior Pro Personnel Analyst. IMO, if Gettleman goes bye-bye, then the next logical in-house guy to step up would be Ken Sternfeld.
Abrams is the cap king, not Getts.

Ross is a great college scout but the treasure hunting Gettleman does has helped a lot. Gotta believe he had input on Stevie Brown and signings like Deon Grant, Sam Madison and others.
The count...

PFT has Panthers leaning toward Gettleman. Jason LaConfora says Panthers were high on Gettleman, as does Pat Yaskinas. Panthers' No. 1 beat guy (Joe Person of Charlotte Observer) hasn't said one leads over the other as far as I know.

According to Cat Scratch Reader (see link), Chris Mortensen says Ross is in the lead.

If I were to wager a guess, Gettleman goes to Panthers and Ross goes to Chargers or Jags.

Losing both in a year with 22 impending free agents to wrangle
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/4/2013 8:07 pm : link
Would blow.

Fuck.
If Gettleman gets that

Ernie is clearly pulling the strings in Carolina in my opinion
It is freaking Accorsi

Easiest consulting assignment in the world. Get paid to simply poach from your previous employer.
Fucking Rug
Optimus-NY : 1/4/2013 8:16 pm : link
Quick! Someone put an offensive limenan's jersey on Gettleman. That way we'll know that Ernie will ignore him.
This list is forgetting teams
Essex : 1/4/2013 8:28 pm : link
that will hire the Coach/Gm pairing, like the Chiefs (although that is Heckert or Dorsey), the Browns (nobody knows who Kelly will hire) etc.

Speaking of ernie Accorsi linemen, I wonder whatever happened to Ian Allen and Chris Bober.
TTH - WHAT?
Optimus-NY : 1/4/2013 8:34 pm : link
Is Tam Hopkins chopped liver now?
Was the guy's name Jeff Hatch?
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 1/4/2013 8:37 pm : link
oy.
Oy Vey indeed!
Optimus-NY : 1/4/2013 8:42 pm : link
Jeff Hatch, Ian Allen, Tam Hopkins. Ugh. A veritable cornucopia of suckage.
Gettleman has done a great job for us for years.
yatqb : 1/4/2013 9:11 pm : link
I'd hate to lose him.

Ross has been hit or miss in the middle rounds. Reese did a better job there. That said, I trust in Reese to continue to keep the personnel department a top unit. There will be a bunch of guys out there with the various firings.
Tam Hopkins and Ian Allen are really just the same person
Ten Ton Hammer : 1/4/2013 9:12 pm : link
how could you tell the difference?
Gettlemen and Ross...
Chris in Philly : 1/4/2013 9:14 pm : link
both have done great work for us and deserve to move on to bigger jobs. This is not the first time Accorsi has done this consulting work. But this is the first time he's raiding us. Let's not be drama queens, m'kay?
Agree with Hammer and others.

agree that losing Gettleman would hurt more than Ross.

Losing both would hurt even more.
Ian Allen had an occasional gig in the UK
bigbluescot : 1/5/2013 4:39 am : link
as a studio analyst on Sky Sports NFL coverage, which consists of an american ex basketball coach who can't talk while someone is talking in his ear, a dweeby british NFL reporter, and a rotating crew of extremely minor ex NFL players, the one decent analyst they get is ex NFL Europe coach and current CFL defensive coach Jeff Reinbold) I believe Allen was married to a woman from the UK and was living there, but he's not been on for a couple of years.

He was a worse studio analyst than he was a Olineman if you can believe that.
