very happy right now

Arguably our top offseason priority is done
Kyle in NY : 2/27/2013 2:58 pm : link
Now get this Cruz deal in place.
That's a good
Dave in MD : 2/27/2013 2:58 pm : link
deal for both sides.
In 4 years I hope we aren't complaining about how
Curtis in VA : 2/27/2013 2:58 pm : link
overpaid he is and that he's why the Giants don't have any cap room lol
freaking awesome
redbeard : 2/27/2013 2:58 pm : link
get cruz locked up and I'll get off the ledge
Excellent excellent news
Overseer : 2/27/2013 3:00 pm : link
Congrats, also, to Anak for the sticky even though Mort beat him by a split second. This should make up for the Lebron thread which superseded yours. March on!
Woo Hoo....dominos
GiantBlue : 2/27/2013 3:00 pm : link
here we go boys......Beatty is the first domino and the rest will fall.....Go Jerry! Go Jerry!!! Cruz, Bennett
also, now that we resigned Beatty maybe we will finally
redbeard : 2/27/2013 3:00 pm : link
cut bait with Diehl and free up even more caproom
ouch... thats a ton of dough....
GMAN4LIFE : 2/27/2013 3:01 pm : link
hope we have dough for cruz
Seem like the going rate for an upper echelon LT.
Curtis in VA : 2/27/2013 3:01 pm : link
Its probably fair.
Nice......
Giantmaniac616 : 2/27/2013 3:01 pm : link
Keep it poppin' Reese!
Deal they had to make.
GP : 2/27/2013 3:02 pm : link
Good.
Is
Jon in NYC : 2/27/2013 3:02 pm : link
~8 mil per what was expected?
That is IMO a great deal for a starting LT
Headhunter : 2/27/2013 3:02 pm : link
the 3rd or 4th most important position on the team. Very reasonable
I'd like to hear Milton's thoughts on this one now lol
David in LA : 2/27/2013 3:02 pm : link
.
it is
Dave in MD : 2/27/2013 3:03 pm : link
less than the franchise number for tackles.
I think that's a fair deal.
Boy Cord : 2/27/2013 3:03 pm : link
How much less did you think the Gmen were goin to get him? That's to Curtis.
redbeard,
GiantFilthy : 2/27/2013 3:03 pm : link
agreed. I expect Diehl news to hit the next day or two.
Seems like a reasonable deal
Reale01 : 2/27/2013 3:03 pm : link
What do you all think?
SIGN CRUZ
Ten Ton Hammer : 2/27/2013 3:04 pm : link
PLEASE
19M Guaranteed
I wanna be Torbor, sucka : 2/27/2013 3:04 pm : link
says to me the Giants do not have very many concerns when is comes to Beatty. They are expecting him to perform for the life of that contract.
Boy Cord,
Curtis in VA : 2/27/2013 3:04 pm : link
I think its a fair deal too. I said that right? I was responding to the post above mine.
Also
Reale01 : 2/27/2013 3:05 pm : link
Thank God, now he can afford to get a good mattress to sleep on during training camp.
Maybe one for Austin as well
Reale01 : 2/27/2013 3:06 pm : link
:-)
the guarantee
Dave in MD : 2/27/2013 3:06 pm : link
is likely the bonus and the base salary for the first two years. Years 4 and 5 don't mean as much, though the money is likely much higher in those years.
Priority number one locked up
JonC : 2/27/2013 3:06 pm : link
Now, decide on Diehl, make some cap space and get Cruz locked up, if possible.

From here, we should also see a decision on Webster, and others.
I keep hearing its a ton
OPBigBlue00 : 2/27/2013 3:07 pm : link
of money. Is it really for a quality left tackle? For those that wanted Long how much dop you think he wanted
Necessary signing
jeff57 : 2/27/2013 3:07 pm : link
But still 1 or 2 holes on the OL to plug.
Capologists
JonC : 2/27/2013 3:08 pm : link
what ballpark do you envision its structure in terms of cap hits?
any chance
Mr. Nickels : 2/27/2013 3:08 pm : link
Lane Johnson's combine performance caused this movement?

I feel we won't get a shot at any of the top olinemen. Now if they all get drafted before us it could push our guy to us.

8 million a year for a starting LT is fair
Anakim : 2/27/2013 3:08 pm : link
Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl
Will Beatty's 5 yr, $38.75 M deal with $19 M guaranteed includes a $12.5 M signing bonus, per source.
a little premature for this

You need to see the structure of the deal first. How much of that guaranteed money is in guaranteed base salary, how much is signing bonus, etc.?
His intial cap hits
JonC : 2/27/2013 3:10 pm : link
shouldn't be painful, given $12.5M bonus.
excellent news
WeatherMan : 2/27/2013 3:11 pm : link
and a good rate for a starting LT too, not an overpay as would likely be required had the team needed to replace him in the open market.
Is
Jon in NYC : 2/27/2013 3:11 pm : link
the 12.5 bonus included in the 37.5?
$12.5M signing bonus
GIANTSr01 : 2/27/2013 3:11 pm : link
prorated that's $2.5M cap hit over the deal which is very reasonable for a solid, starting LT. I'm guessing the other $6.5M is in guaranteed base salaries in 2013 and 2014. Probably signifies a very backloaded deal, but we'll see.
Nice

Seems like an overpayment
JoeyBigBlue : 2/27/2013 3:12 pm : link
But Beatty was a pressing need on this team. Now I'm hoping Diehl is released, so we can get our cap situation in order.
not an overpay at all
Dave in MD : 2/27/2013 3:14 pm : link
in fact, it sounds like a fairly cap friendly deal.
I
AcidTest : 2/27/2013 3:14 pm : link
defer to others, but that seems pretty fair given that he is an upper echelon, albeit not top 5, LT. But you have to believe somebody is going to get axed to make room for that contract. Or somebodys.

PFF
Only 8 OTs allowed fewer total pressures than Beatty last season and none allowed their QB to hit the deck fewer times than he did (sk+hit)

HUGE move by the Giants to re-sign Will Beatty. One of only 4 OT this year with a +10.0 @PFF grade in both run and pass blocking.

the oline franchise tag value for 2013 is $9.4M. On average this deal is worth $7.7M/year which is almost 20% below the franchise tag level. Seems like a very good deal for both sides.
I'd like to compare his numbers against other LTs before
ZogZerg : 2/27/2013 3:15 pm : link
saying it's a great deal. It was must signing for the Giants. But, that doesn't mean that they don't have any concerns about him.
we still have alot of pieces to fill...
GMAN4LIFE : 2/27/2013 3:16 pm : link
i guess bennett wont be resigned for sure now... unless they let go of diehl...
