Reese was on Sirius/MTC earlier (No Cruz info)

Racer : 3/18/2013 3:48 pm
PK and TRock asked him who starts at left guard, his first response was "we can do some things in the draft", and then made a general comment like they can "play with some veterans on the roster".

Murphy: Jeremiah Davis (Exec. Scout) calls him a 'knife'. Really will take the top off defenses now, and be a big help to Nicks and (hopefully) Cruz.

Adrien Robinson: Expects him to use his 280lb frame as "the big TE". Didn't mention anything about getting downfield, but commented about some amazing things he flashed in practice last year. 280??

Myers: "QB Friendly", "Quiet 80 catches/going to be a big help in the pass game", "He's played a lot"...he said the latter to underscore the fact they haven't usually given Pope guys with a lot of experience to work with.

Beatty: Good young player on the rise and wanted to get that done before free agency started.

Wouldn't comment on Cruz contract situation because it was 'inappropriate', but praised VC as a person/player. Funny, they re-played his comments on the 2min update... zero-info on Victor beat out Jake Long signing with STL.
Good stuff

That's why I've been saying Robinson and Donnell will likely compete for the down TE position...they have the size...280 pound range, like Ballard and Bennett.
wow
Andy in Boston : 3/18/2013 3:53 pm : link
Robinson, must be bigger and stronger.
And great insight to Murphy and Myers.....good stuff.

did they ask about Connor.

Good stuff on Murphy.

i would say its not looking great about resigning Boothe.
Thanks for this Racer
4thand17 : 3/18/2013 3:54 pm : link
Was Boothe mentioned specifically?

I'll be the first to say I hope he was not referring to Deihl as a possibility to start at LG. Others who watched him more closely or know more can weigh in, but from what I saw he was awful at Guard and rarely if ever lays a hand on anyone when pulling.

Did they ask for an update on Cruz's dog?
he's
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/18/2013 3:55 pm : link
not going to talk about Boothe...same as Cruz.
Good thing about Myers
SLIM : 3/18/2013 3:55 pm : link
is that Robinson can be brought along slower with Myers in the fold. He doesn't have to worry about playing in the spread offense. That is a luxury that Boss and Ballard did not have.
Diehl will be the cheaper alternative
Canton : 3/18/2013 3:56 pm : link
If Boothe can't be resigned.

Hopefully we catch a good one in the draft.

I could still see us
Andy in Boston : 3/18/2013 3:56 pm : link
trading our 5th or 6th rounder for a decent serviceable NFL guard.(if a team has an expendable guard on their team)..to possibly start or compete with a potential high draft pick guard. Especially if we get a 5th or 5th compensatory pick.

that Myers and Bennett are similar players....they are not.
2 completely different kinds of players. I see Myers as a Pete Mitchell or Chris Cooley type of player.

Suprised PK didn't ask about lowering Tuck's reps because he's mentioned it a few times lately.

Didn't realize Robinson was up around 280 now.
Trying not to get too excited about Robinson's potential

BSIMatt : 3/18/2013 4:03 pm : link
good stuff. You nailed everything. Also..Robinson I believe weighed 265 at his pro-day when he ran the 4.5 forty...which is really unbelievable. He probably could add 15 pounds easily in an NFL strength training program.
So
AcidTest : 3/18/2013 4:07 pm : link
does that mean Robinson is the blocking TE? I thought we got him to catch passes. ("JPP of tight ends.")

As far as Murphy is concerned, he may be a "knife" in terms of speed, but sometimes he catches like Edward Scissorhands.

Oh well, as I said, this level of FA is like the last few rounds of the draft. Everybody has warts. Just hope you get a player who can do one or two things well, whatever their other shortcomings. I think we did with these FAs. And most on one year contracts, so no real cap problems if they don't work out.

Good job Jerry.

Maybe thinking about his production will help.
280
AnishPatel : 3/18/2013 4:14 pm : link
seems a bit high in weight. I would think 6'5 256-265 would be good both for blocking and getting down field to make plays. Can that be done if a player is at 280? Michael Matthews was a blocking TE, who played at 270. If AR is at 280, I think that's high for a TE, in terms of weight.
Reese kinda emphasized they were looking
BSIMatt : 3/18/2013 4:14 pm : link
for Robinson to be their big blocking TE, as an aside he mentioned that he had good hands but he emphasized the frame/blocking first.(He did mentioned Robinson's 4.5 forty time at his pro day).

So why not have him as
AnishPatel : 3/18/2013 4:20 pm : link
our duel-threat, 2 way TE? That would be a let down, especially watching his highlights of getting down field quickly. I really hope he isn't a glorified Mike Matthews.
Does putting on weight really make that much of a difference?
Curtis in VA : 3/18/2013 4:30 pm : link
I can see maybe 5 or even 10 lbs but damn... he's going to be tired or hurt by the end of the year if his body isn't conditioned to carry the extra weight. We see this happen all the time.
Curtis,
AnishPatel : 3/18/2013 4:35 pm : link
For a 2 way TE, yes, for a purely a blocking TE, who is a glorified OL, who perhaps catches a few passes in key situations then no. Extra weight, mixed with technique taught by Pope, and athletic ability can all factor in with a great blocking TE. If that's the goal then fine.

I do think he has the potential of being a good 2 way TE. It seems the vision based on this is a blocking TE. Again, if that's the goal, then he is at a good weight.
Maybe Robinson has enough work ahead of him
BSIMatt : 3/18/2013 4:36 pm : link
that it's a two phase process, and phase one is getting him on the field and learning everything entailed in being a successful blocker first.

I remember reading that even though he was primarily a blocker at Cincinnati, the Bearcats ran a spread offense so he really had no experience engaging 270-280 pound ends.

In describing Robinson as their blocking TE it also informed you that they weren't looking for Myers to fill that role(which was already predicted based on Myer's frame/skillset).
His LG comment
awm34 : 3/18/2013 4:43 pm : link
may just be a bargaining ploy to let Boothe know they can live without him.
I'm looking for the Giants to draft two offensive linemen
GeofromNJ : 3/18/2013 4:46 pm : link
with their first four picks, and one of these picks will be a 1st or 2nd rounder. I can't believe Reese is happy with his offensive line, especially RT and center.
GeofromNJ - I agree w/your post except about Center
Optimus-NY : 3/18/2013 5:41 pm : link
Baas hasn't been great, he hasn't been bad either. They're content with him. The issue besides RT is LG. Diehl and Snee won't be around here too much longer. Baas will be here for two more years.
The glaring hole
TMS : 3/18/2013 5:45 pm : link
is at RT right now. Could it be JR thinks we can get a first year starter in the draft for that spot ?
Reese was on the PFT show, too.

I like what he brings. Any time he's been brought in.. he's delivered.
RT is a huge glaring hole..
prdave73 : 3/18/2013 7:33 pm : link
Questions should be what hes going to do about it? It should not include Diehl either.. I really think Rt needs to be addressed in FA, the Giants need a sure thing to protect Eli.. this offense with all its weapon will not be dominate without protecting Eli period..
I heard the first few minutes,
barens : 3/18/2013 7:40 pm : link
he did seem a lot more comfortable talking to Kirwan and Ryan than he normally does with the media. It did seem like he let it slip that they like quite a few interior linemen in the draft.
barens, he specified INTERIOR?
GmenDynasty : 3/18/2013 8:02 pm : link
could be a shout out to our boy Boothe lol
It's hardly a secret that they like Brian Winters.
Klaatu : 3/18/2013 8:30 pm : link
And there are quite a few interior linemen in this draft that it would be hard not to like.

GeofromNJ : 3/18/2013 9:21 pm : link
Baas has been damaged goods since the Giants got him. I'm sure Reese expected more because he touted Baas as an example of how the front office was not standing still during free agency two years ago. But I'm not sure Baas will ever be healthy. When he's in the lineup and not on the sidelines, he seems to get run over. I think Reese is looking for a center.
Geo - There's nothing wrong with looking for a Center
Optimus-NY : 3/18/2013 9:46 pm : link
Be aware of this though: Baas will be here for another 2 years weather you or anyone else likes it or not. The numbers after they restructured his contract clearly indicate this.
Canton - Thanks for the link

barens : 3/18/2013 10:57 pm : link
Going to play left gaurd? He asked if Selvish Capers was the answer. Reese just said we'll see, and that the Giants like the interior linemen in the draft. Maybe it wasn't a slip, but that's about as much as I've ever heard from him per draft.
