UDFA - DISCUSSION Thread

Optimus-NY : 4/28/2013 3:14 pm
Please feel free to discuss Undrafted Rookie Free Agency (UDFA) here on this thread. The other thread is for news ONLY. Let's keep things simplified and uncluttered on that thread. Post only news there. On this thread, feel free to discuss the players you wanted the Giants to get un UDFA as well as where the players that you wanted in UDFA went.

If you want to talk about the impact of the signings that the Giants made in UDFA on the roster, then go ahead and do that here (e.g., speculation about veteran free agents that the Giants might still sign).

Official Confirmed UDFA News/Signings thread for the Giants | Matt in SGS : 4/27/2013 6:23 pm
I would like to make a comment about the UDFA's
wgenesis123 : 4/28/2013 3:39 pm : link
Every year these guys face staggering odds of even making a roster. Many are simply camp fodder. I give these guys credit for chasing their dream. This isn't some singing contest where your ego may get hurt. Alot of these guys suffer significant injury. Yet somewhere in the NFL each year a Victor Cruz or Tony Romo emerges from the UDFA's and fame and fortune soon follow. Its the American dream from rags to rich's. I think when a team gets an Arian Foster or a Victor Cruz its bigger than most first round picks. Its the kind of thing that can really help put a team on top. I love it and I hope Jerry Reese can get lucky again.

Mr. Nickels (had him for the comp pick in the 7th)

#7 Marcus Davis WR 64/228

Has been a disappointment. Has some freakish workout numbers. Strong, hard body that runs a legit sub 4.4. Not the kind of player that gets the most out of his natural ability though. Low football IQ. Often that target of QBs and coaches for running wrong routes. Lack of hustle as a blocker on a weekly basis. I think he gets drafted based on upside, but nothing before round 6 because he is a big time underachiever.

And then there are these dissents from BigBlueDownTheShore:

Marcus Davis can't cach. He is Tim Carter! All the

Athletic talent and speed but can't put it all together. I'm a Hokie fan and I can't stand him. He is the only player I have ever hated.

As a devoted Hokie fan that has watched everyone of Marcus Davis' games... I want no part in Marcus Davis at all. He is Tim Carter part 2. He can't catch at all. He is awful. Honestly I never hate any Hokie player, and I hate him. He gets thrown perfect balls and drops every one of them. Everyone has always been infatuated with his athletic ability, but his catching skills suck!
So the Saints

What veteran free agents do you guys wana see added to the roster?
Optimus-NY : 4/28/2013 7:08 pm : link
We still need another starting quality LB to supplement the draft picks and these UDFAs.
Karlos Dansby
BloodlustRevenge : 4/29/2013 1:14 am : link
do we even have cap space for a player like him?
He can play all three spots.
100 solo tackles and 9 PDef last year.
maybe

Gerald McCrath
Giants have the space for him Bloodlust
Optimus-NY : 4/29/2013 9:19 am : link
Dansby won't cost much at this point. Probably a little over the veteran minimum at this point. I'd make an educated guess that at MOST, the cap hit for a player like him would be somewhere between 1.5 and 2 million bucks. It's a buyet's market to begin with, and if you add in the fact that the draft is over, there are even less available jobs now then there were a few days ago. The supply of players (I mean veteran free agents) FAR exceeds the demand, thereby driving down their negotiating power--not that they had much to begin with at this stage of the game.
Giants' list is back down to 7 UDFAs:
Optimus-NY : 4/29/2013 11:34 am : link
S/LB, Alonzo Tweedy, Virginia Tech
LB, Etienne Sabino, Ohio State
TE, Chase Clement, LSU
DB, Charles James, Charleston Southern
LB, Charles Dieuseul, Mount Union
WR, Marcus Davis, Virginia Tech
RB, Jeremy Wright, Louisville

As per this Vachiano tweet, Kenny Miles is not going to sign with the Giants, Instead, he's going to sign with the Redskins:
