Seeking Nominations for BBI Giant of the Year

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/6/2013 8:03 am
We are seeking input from fans on who the candidates should be for this year's "BBI Giant of the Year" voting. To be clear, we are not collecting votes right now - just feedback on who should be on the poll.

The "BBI Giant of the Year” award is given to the Giants’ player, coach, or member of the front office who most contributed to the team’s success on the field in a given year. The vote is held at the end of each season by members of the BBI community and the award is presented at a ceremony on the practice fields during training camp. For a list of previous winners, see the BBI Giant of the Year section of the website.

Here is a list of candidates we are considering. Please feel free to suggest additions or deletions to this list.

Head Coach Tom Coughlin: Moved past Bill Parcells into second place as the Giants' winningest coach (83 regular-season wins, eight post-season wins).

QB Eli Manning: Not as good as 2011, but Manning still threw for 3,948 yards and 26 touchdowns.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw: Bradshaw had his second best season ever as a Giant, rushing for 1,015 yards on 221 attempts (4.6 yards per carry). Tough guy who did this despite playing on a foot that once again needed offseason surgery. (Downside is he would not be present for training camp ceremony).

WR Victor Cruz: Not as good as 2011, but Cruz still caught more passes in 2012 (86) and touchdowns (10) than he did in 2011. Finished with 1,092 yards. (Downside is he may not be present for training camp ceremony if he is holding out).

S Antrel Rolle: He finished with a team-high 96 tackles. Rolle also had two interceptions, one forced fumble, and five pass defenses.

S Stevie Brown: Brown had the most interceptions in a single season by a Giant in 44 years. Brown played in all 16 games, started 11, and finished with 76 tackles, 11 pass defenses, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

My vote is for Tom Coughlin

Love that man!

to be clear...we are not collecting votes right now. Just who should be on the poll.
Stevie Brown
truebluelarry : 5/6/2013 8:07 am : link
He became a catalyst for the defense when little was expected from him. Aside from the high total of INTs, he displayed an uncanny knack for long returns.
Stevie Brown
regulator : 5/6/2013 8:08 am : link
One of the few players who exceeded expectations last year.
D'Oh!
truebluelarry : 5/6/2013 8:09 am : link
Sorry, missed that...
Diehl,
Big Blue '56 : 5/6/2013 8:10 am : link
as with Seubert, a career thing
Martellus Bennett
George : 5/6/2013 8:13 am : link
Seriously. He was the Man. Or, at least, the Unicorn.
Given the overwhelming evidence
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 5/6/2013 8:15 am : link
that the effect of winning the award is debilitating to one's career, I want to nominate RGIII. : )
Victor Cruz.... because karma is a bitch
GMAN4LIFE : 5/6/2013 8:38 am : link
.
Bradshaw
Some Fan : 5/6/2013 8:40 am : link
He played hurt thru two SB seasons.
Fewell not under consideration? ;)
Victor in CT : 5/6/2013 8:42 am : link

Bradshaw
Bramton1 : 5/6/2013 8:43 am : link
Dude needs some recognition for the effort he's put in as a Giant. Especially if this is it for his career.

Bonus points for no curse worries!
It's a Complete List
Jim in Tampa : 5/6/2013 8:49 am : link
I really wouldn't add or delete anyone. But if for some reason you needed to get it down to four candidates I would eliminate TC and Eli.

Lifetime achievements are nice, but I'm not sure how you could recognize a coach in a year in which we blew a division lead and missed the playoffs. (Can't imagine TC would think he was deserving either.)

Eli just didn't have a good year.

It would be cool if Bradshaw won it. And although it wouldn't be as much fun for the award presenters (since Bradshaw wouldn't be there) it would satisfy the "let's not jinx an active player with the BBI trophy" crowd.

Maybe the RB coach or Wilson could accept on behalf of AB?
Bradshaw

should take the win!!

Toth029 : 5/6/2013 8:52 am : link
Eli didn't have a good year?
How about Prince?
Tark10 : 5/6/2013 8:52 am : link
He had a solid year and played like a first round draft choice.. I like Stevie as well.
TC imo.
yatqb : 5/6/2013 8:53 am : link
.
I think Antrel Rolle
gidiefor : Mod : 5/6/2013 8:54 am : link
deserves consideration

but Coughlin has my vote - thanks for making me grin inside for the past 6 years coach!!!
If we wanted to go in a completely different direction, Pat Hanlon
yatqb : 5/6/2013 8:54 am : link
deserves recognition...but that would likely be too disrespectful of the players and coaches.
Hixon
ada34ada : 5/6/2013 8:55 am : link
Coming back from back to back knee surgeries and had a successful season.
Maybe
Jolly Blue Giant : 5/6/2013 8:57 am : link
Tunes should be on the ballot
TYNES
Jolly Blue Giant : 5/6/2013 8:57 am : link
sorry....
......
Micko : 5/6/2013 8:58 am : link
Interestingly, my first thought is no one. Did anyone really have a great year last year?

Stevie Brown: made the most big plays

and......
...
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/6/2013 9:01 am : link
I considered Tynes, Weatherford, and Amukamara...but...

While Tynes had a lot of field goals (I think 2nd in NFL), his field goal percentage was only 18th in the NFL.

Weatherford's net punting stats were below average when compared with the rest of the NFL.

Amukamara only had one interception and didn't have many game-changing plays. He also really wasn't a guy that other teams shied away from.

Rolle is on the list above.
my list of nominees
Micko : 5/6/2013 9:02 am : link
(1) Victor Cruz (86 catches, 10 TD)
(2) Stevie Brown (8 picks)
(3) David Wilson (special teams ace / 1500 yards on kos, 1TD)
(4) Antrel Rolle (96 combined tackles)
.....
Micko : 5/6/2013 9:04 am : link
Cruz is probably the logical choice based on stats but I kind of like the what Wilson did on special teams. Probably the most exciting aspect of the season. Always seemed like he was going to break one.
Bradshaw
AcidTest : 5/6/2013 9:06 am : link
for all he did for the Giants. One of the toughest Giants ever. Great player. What heart.

Second place would be Brown. Came out of nowhere to have eight picks, etc.
Mike Pope...
Dunedin81 : 5/6/2013 9:07 am : link
unless the trophy curse then exacts itself on Adrien Robinson.
I was going to say Mike Pope as well
Shockstarr80808 : 5/6/2013 9:10 am : link
Guy each year develops these tight ends and does a great job!
What would everyone think about nominating
Jaychman35 : 5/6/2013 9:11 am : link
Jack Pinto (6 year old killed in Newtown, big Victor Cruz fan)? Just a thought. And it does not make you a scumbag to disagree. The award was intended to be someone within the organization. This could be a slippery slope with opening it up to other considerations.
Bradshaw
Padiwan15 : 5/6/2013 9:13 am : link
should be on the list. Also, while his numbers aren't there this past year, Chase Blackburn's body of work is deserving of a salute. He is a true giant, and I am convinced the Giants don't win the last SB without him (with that Int. that I believe would have resulted in a TD).
As much as my "old schoolness" doesn't want to give it to
goldy1313 : 5/6/2013 9:15 am : link
a rookie, I agree that special teams were so much more exciting than any year I can remember. Add that to some excellent play down the stretch and I think Wilson deserves a nom too.

That having been said, I give it to S Brown when voting comes. He exceeded expectations and was very exciting too on his int returns.
bradshaw
gmyers400 : 5/6/2013 9:19 am : link
Blackburn
Osi
Hixon
Tynes

Or anyone we else not with the team any longer.
or get rid of the cursed trophy all together

heres my list
mattlawson : 5/6/2013 9:22 am : link
Coughlin
Bradshaw
Stevie
Hynoksi
Boothe
Tynes
AnishPatel : 5/6/2013 9:23 am : link
I think at one point he led the league in FGs. I shudder to think what happens if he actually sucked. He was used a lot this past season. Plus give it to him because he is not on the team anymore. So win-win!
I Think...
Porch622 : 5/6/2013 9:23 am : link
you should give Coach Coughlin a shot at the award this year.
even though the d sucked
nms24 : 5/6/2013 9:32 am : link
I think it is about time we give the award to someone on defense. we haven't had a defensive winner in the history of the award.

So i nominate JPP, Rolle & Stevie Brown.

I wouldn't mind giving the award to coughlin or reese either.
someone who can't get hurt or start sucking
Flanker7 : 5/6/2013 9:36 am : link
so yeah, Bradshaw sounds good.
I think Will Beatty
Jay on the Island : 5/6/2013 9:38 am : link
deserves to be on that list. He played very well and he helped to stabilize the line upon his return to the starting lineup.
Nice
dorgan : 5/6/2013 9:39 am : link
going, LTS.

This was your doing.
I like the Jack Pinto idea
mac attack : 5/6/2013 9:51 am : link
That would be a great gesture.
Will Hill
Mike in NY : 5/6/2013 9:52 am : link
Hear me out - great player on Special Teams and our Pass D improved greatly when he was playing. Stevie Brown may have had more INT's but a lot of what he had was on deflections and just being a rover. Was burned way too often because his play recognition skills are awful so the CB would turn the WR over to the S and Brown was nowhere to be found
I think Bradshaw definitely.
Montreal Man : 5/6/2013 9:55 am : link
Not only did he have a very good year, he had it while hurt and played hurt for a lot of his games with us.

And you can add that he's also on the list for his body of work with us as well as having an excellent year.

I don't like the idea of giving it to Coughin, Reese, Pope, coaches .... I've always felt that the BBI award was a players award and I personally would like to keep it like that.

I also like the Jack Pinto idea
NYFG 23 : 5/6/2013 9:58 am : link
But, if you want to stay away from that then I'd say Tom Coughlin.
how about John Mara. When I read and hear about the ongoing
Victor in CT : 5/6/2013 10:04 am : link
shit show that is the Jets, I appreciate more and more the way JM has continued the tradition of dignity and class established by Wellington. Maybe a co-candidacy along with Steve Tisch? JM and ST have seamlessly continued the harmonious and professional atmosphere forged by the fathers. It is that culture that allows JR, TC and co to do their jobs.
I second Victor's comment
Adam G in MD : 5/6/2013 10:14 am : link
When looking back at the season, I don't feel anyone stood out as consistently playing well. With the possible exceptions of Beatty, Rolle and Stevie Brown. But, when looking at the organization as a whole, I feel that they don't panic, and act in a mature, professional way. So, when I'm sitting here in the DC area dealing with Skins fans, my rebuttal of: "Well your owner is Dan Snyder", pretty much quiets the mob. That is a testament to Mara, et. al.
The best
dep026 : 5/6/2013 10:16 am : link
Giant on offense last year was Eli.
Giant on defense was Stevie Brown.

Being that our defense was atrocious last year, the award should go to Eli.
WR Douglas
Hades07 : 5/6/2013 10:16 am : link
I forget his first name. He was unstoppable in practice.
