Seeking Nominations for BBI Giant of the Year

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/6/2013 8:03 am
We are seeking input from fans on who the candidates should be for this year's "BBI Giant of the Year" voting. To be clear, we are not collecting votes right now - just feedback on who should be on the poll.

The "BBI Giant of the Year” award is given to the Giants’ player, coach, or member of the front office who most contributed to the team’s success on the field in a given year. The vote is held at the end of each season by members of the BBI community and the award is presented at a ceremony on the practice fields during training camp. For a list of previous winners, see the BBI Giant of the Year section of the website.

Here is a list of candidates we are considering. Please feel free to suggest additions or deletions to this list.

Head Coach Tom Coughlin: Moved past Bill Parcells into second place as the Giants' winningest coach (83 regular-season wins, eight post-season wins).

QB Eli Manning: Not as good as 2011, but Manning still threw for 3,948 yards and 26 touchdowns.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw: Bradshaw had his second best season ever as a Giant, rushing for 1,015 yards on 221 attempts (4.6 yards per carry). Tough guy who did this despite playing on a foot that once again needed offseason surgery. (Downside is he would not be present for training camp ceremony).

WR Victor Cruz: Not as good as 2011, but Cruz still caught more passes in 2012 (86) and touchdowns (10) than he did in 2011. Finished with 1,092 yards. (Downside is he may not be present for training camp ceremony if he is holding out).

S Antrel Rolle: He finished with a team-high 96 tackles. Rolle also had two interceptions, one forced fumble, and five pass defenses.

S Stevie Brown: Brown had the most interceptions in a single season by a Giant in 44 years. Brown played in all 16 games, started 11, and finished with 76 tackles, 11 pass defenses, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Good list. I really like Coughlin, S Brown and Bradshaw on the list. Wilson had a good year in ST but not sure if that is enough.

Will Beatty...

I know it was a long time coming, but I thought he did a great job last season protecting Eli. One of the only spots I felt comfortable about on game day.
In a year
Jon in NYC : 5/6/2013 10:35 am : link
when there is no clear cut player I think it should be Coughlin.

usual.
The AB "Lifetime achievement" may very well be in order...
TommytheElephant : 5/6/2013 10:38 am : link
Stevie should be on the poll too...
Eli or
MikeN in Ottawa : 5/6/2013 10:42 am : link
Cruz as far as I am concerned. 3rd choice would be TC.
second
SamdaGiantsFan : 5/6/2013 10:43 am : link
Will Beatty...despite the overall performance of the OL he stepped his game up to a new level
Eli is the on-field MVP, but
David B. : 5/6/2013 10:46 am : link
When you put it the way Eric did, Stevie Brown looks pretty good for having the "best year."
Brown
PaulN : 5/6/2013 10:49 am : link
Eli
Cruz
Rolle
Bradshaw

I think those 5 were the best players last season.

Probably because they are just seeking nominations for who should be on the ballot right now.
My vote goes to Coughlin...

Voting for Ahmad Bradshaw
allstarjim : 5/6/2013 11:00 am : link
He deserves it, may be a bit of a "lifetime achievement award", but he ran so hard last year, so tough, and to do it on those bad feet, he really epitomized the phrase, "never quit". I think it would be a nice honor for him.
Does have to be a player?
jxs54 : 5/6/2013 11:03 am : link
How about Jerry Reese.
Bradshaw.

I feel Bradshaw should be
ECham : 5/6/2013 11:10 am : link
given some kind of "Lifetime achievement award".

Since the board does not have, i would nominate him.
Bradshaw
ligmen : 5/6/2013 11:13 am : link
It's not even close this year considering the tears when he knew his days as a Giant were over.

He gave this team evvvverything.
Stevie Brown

Ahmad Bradshaw
Kevin Boothe
Stevie Brown
Give it to Bradshaw.

anyone

affiliated with the Giants can be nominated...Owners, GM, coaches, etc. Problem with owner however, is the Giants have two.

I see some good suggestions on this thread. I wouldn't want the list to get too big. But perhaps Beatty, Boothe, Mike Pope, Reese should be added? I'm torn on Wilson (really had one huge game but doesn't he need to do more?) and Brown (TD's but not a lot of rushing yards).
I was really just trying
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/6/2013 11:37 am : link
to help you get the other nominees together, so you didn't have to pick them out through the thread. It wasn't meant to be an official tally poll. Jerry Reese was nominated, along with my mother. LOL

Just trying to help out.
There really wasn't much
section125 : 5/6/2013 11:41 am : link
of a standout but:
1.) Cruz
2.) Bradshaw
3.) Steve Brown
4.) TC

Just nominate and vote for Bradshaw.
Bradshaw and Tynes
ZogZerg : 5/6/2013 12:30 pm : link
I don't see how anyone on defense could be on that list. The Defense was putrid. Eli had a down year for him and just won it last year (hmm), so please leave him off. Not a lot of good choices. I guess Wilson is an option for his fantastic Kick returns (I believe he set some sort of record), but I'd hate to do that to him.
Gilbride
AnnapolisMike : 5/6/2013 12:32 pm : link
He has presided over one of the most prolific Giant offenses of all time. He gets little credit around BBI, but he will be missed when the day arrives that he moves on.

Outside of Bradshaw, no one player really had a great year. Tough one this year.
Stevie Brown
BillyBoy8384 : 5/6/2013 12:44 pm : link
Our run game sucked even though Ahamd played tough, our entire offense was a bit of a disappointment. I think Brown was a game changer, playmaker , and a turn over machine. Id vote for the guy who rose above his expectations and got snubbed in the pro bowl ballots. His t.o.'s were huge totally changed games.
I also think Boothe should be added
micky : 5/6/2013 1:05 pm : link
The 3 already on the list are solid TC, Eli, & Brown. Would also, maybe add Pope as well.
Here's a great choice:
Big Blue '56 : 5/6/2013 1:19 pm : link
Pat Hanlon..It's about time
Really grasping
AnnapolisMike : 5/6/2013 1:24 pm : link
If Hanlon gets nominated.
I agree with others...
Mike in Philly : 5/6/2013 1:29 pm : link
we should add Coach Coughlin. No problem with any others on the list.
Mike, why?
Big Blue '56 : 5/6/2013 1:32 pm : link
Do you realize hw much he does or the Giants AND BBI?
Coughlin
DavidinBMNY : 5/6/2013 1:44 pm : link
I think Coughlin deserves it.
BB56
AnnapolisMike : 5/6/2013 1:45 pm : link
Hanlon is a great PR guy and friend of BBI. The Giants are lucky to have him. But I would question how much of an impact he has on the success of the team on the field. Probably more than I am aware of... but still.
Well,
Big Blue '56 : 5/6/2013 1:50 pm : link
you know how I feel about Coughlin
martellis bennett should be considered
CGiants07 : 5/6/2013 2:07 pm : link
along with beatty besides that I think eric you have the list in the opening post
Mike in Philly
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/6/2013 2:20 pm : link
Coughlin is already on the list.
Stevie Brown...
BamaBlue : 5/6/2013 2:26 pm : link
for all the reasons stated. He was one of the very few bright spots on a crappy defense.
I suggest dividing it into four categories - pick one out of the four
B in ALB : 5/6/2013 2:37 pm : link
Offense - Bradshaw
Defense - Rolle
ST - Wilson
Staff - TC

That way you get a good mix of personnel from all phases.
No to Eli anf
BlueLou : 5/6/2013 2:37 pm : link
Yes to Wilson, he made the pro bowl.
One mistake
B in ALB : 5/6/2013 2:38 pm : link
I would replace Rolle with Stevie Brown.
