Seeking Nominations for BBI Giant of the Year

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/6/2013 8:03 am
We are seeking input from fans on who the candidates should be for this year's "BBI Giant of the Year" voting. To be clear, we are not collecting votes right now - just feedback on who should be on the poll.

The "BBI Giant of the Year” award is given to the Giants’ player, coach, or member of the front office who most contributed to the team’s success on the field in a given year. The vote is held at the end of each season by members of the BBI community and the award is presented at a ceremony on the practice fields during training camp. For a list of previous winners, see the BBI Giant of the Year section of the website.

Here is a list of candidates we are considering. Please feel free to suggest additions or deletions to this list.

Head Coach Tom Coughlin: Moved past Bill Parcells into second place as the Giants' winningest coach (83 regular-season wins, eight post-season wins).

QB Eli Manning: Not as good as 2011, but Manning still threw for 3,948 yards and 26 touchdowns.

RB Ahmad Bradshaw: Bradshaw had his second best season ever as a Giant, rushing for 1,015 yards on 221 attempts (4.6 yards per carry). Tough guy who did this despite playing on a foot that once again needed offseason surgery. (Downside is he would not be present for training camp ceremony).

WR Victor Cruz: Not as good as 2011, but Cruz still caught more passes in 2012 (86) and touchdowns (10) than he did in 2011. Finished with 1,092 yards. (Downside is he may not be present for training camp ceremony if he is holding out).

S Antrel Rolle: He finished with a team-high 96 tackles. Rolle also had two interceptions, one forced fumble, and five pass defenses.

S Stevie Brown: Brown had the most interceptions in a single season by a Giant in 44 years. Brown played in all 16 games, started 11, and finished with 76 tackles, 11 pass defenses, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Bradshaw...
Ed A. : 5/6/2013 2:40 pm : link
deserves it. Put those numbers up playing in pain all year.
The list is good
WideRight : 5/6/2013 2:42 pm : link
I would add JPP, not because he should win it, but he's still an impact player/star that should be able to be considered.

How pissed off would we be if he was left off the Pro Bowl ballot?
With all of the injuries we've had.....
Tom [Giants fan] : 5/6/2013 2:59 pm : link
how about the medical personnel?
Coach Pope
Torn Tendon : 5/6/2013 2:59 pm : link
once again he turn a TE that many in the NFL was a bust into a highly sought after FA.
Ahmad Bradshaw
Bubba Raybeen : 5/6/2013 3:15 pm : link
A true leader and one of the toughest Giants.
Coach Pope no doubt deserves at minimum nomination.
BlueLou : 5/6/2013 3:23 pm : link
- Martellus Bennett

Nevermind...I see what you did...
actually Mike Pope
gidiefor : Mod : 5/6/2013 3:39 pm : link
is a good idea as a nominee
If lifetime achievement counts
AnnapolisMike : 5/6/2013 3:46 pm : link
And what he has meant to to the franchise, Tuck should be on the list.

Pope did his best work in previous years with Boss and Ballard.
Is this the award
RB^2 : 5/6/2013 3:51 pm : link
Where the recipient plays poorly and/or gets hurt the following year?

I nominate Bob!
I say
Fish : 5/6/2013 3:51 pm : link
Bradshaw. He gave everything he had and left it on the field.
If this is about adding names to be nominated
Sneakers O'toole : 5/6/2013 3:57 pm : link
I would put Prince on there
Hynoski
YorkAveGiant : 5/6/2013 4:02 pm : link
kept Eli on his feet and gave Bradshaw at least a yard on every carry.
Antrelle Rolle
Torrag : 5/6/2013 4:18 pm : link
No one else on defense should even be mentioned....never mind given serious consideration. They embarrassed themselves as a unit and us as fans that take pride in Giants defense.

Eli's second half was meh. Cruz disappeared after he was nailed a few times. Bennett was just ok. Beatty had his best season to date but Giant of the Year? Ahmad could be considered on toughness. Brown until he was injured might have been our most consistent offensive player when he touched the ball. Eh it's a mess TBH.

Frankly we should abstain this year. No one deserves it.
So...
Torrag : 5/6/2013 4:18 pm : link
None of the Above gets the trophy!
Bradshaw
Damon : 5/6/2013 4:50 pm : link
If not for a gritty performance last year... than for a lifetime achievement award... Great Giant.
I think that list really reflects the year the Giants had
oipolloi : 5/6/2013 4:59 pm : link
no one really leaps out at you as deserving

I'd put Beatty on the list.
It's pretty obvious it's Stevie Brown
raever : 5/6/2013 5:18 pm : link
He had the most outstanding performance of any Giant this season. No one else is even very close in my book. Sure stats can lie but in this case they tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but....

2 NFC Defensive Player of the Week Awards

Established a Giants franchise record for single-season interception return yards (259).

He finished the season with 307 turnover return yards, which ranked as the fourth highest single-season total in NFL history

His 8 interceptions was the most by a Giant in a season since 1968.

He was simply the best in Blue in 2013.
Who ever keeps the giants defensive
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 5/6/2013 5:27 pm : link
Stats ... With all the first downs, TD's, yardage etc... The Giants gave up they had to work overtime all season long!
A suggestion: Name the Award the Jack Pinto BBI Giant of the Year
plumber : 5/6/2013 6:37 pm : link
In honor of the world's greatest Giant fan - left this earth in his Victor Cruz Jersey.

Sorry, I don't know how to post a link, but if you copy and paste the following, you will see what I mean:

http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AnYU81mCdkGTSEMtJ5SX86WbvZx4?p=Jack+Pinto&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-621

(If someone agrees, maybe they can provide this link to this photo. I think that it would be a small but meaningful way to honor him).

I believe the award is already named for Hope Johnson.
Bige711 : 5/6/2013 6:41 pm : link
!
Stevie Brown
mrvax : 5/6/2013 7:01 pm : link
He play way beyond expectations last year.
I cast my vote for Victor Cruz
GiantBlue : 5/6/2013 7:01 pm : link
Amazing season!
How can TC be on the ballot. Really?
RDJR : 5/6/2013 7:39 pm : link
For another 2d half collapse? These names should be on the ballot... Eli, Cruz, Bradshaw, Rolle and Prince. Coaches, PR guys, owners, etc... shouldn't be eligible IMO. Say it every year.
Forgot Stevie. Add him.
RDJR : 5/6/2013 7:40 pm : link
Three O and three D.
give it to
spike : 5/6/2013 8:11 pm : link
Bradshaw
I also nominate
Sec 103 : 5/6/2013 8:15 pm : link
AB
Without a doubt.....
Doomster : 5/6/2013 8:35 pm : link
It should go to either:

AB

Osi

Canty

Boley

Blackburn

Tynes

Barden

Beckum

or

Rocky Bernard

And I think you ALL know why!

Bradshaw.
BigBlue in Keys : 5/6/2013 8:52 pm : link
Tons of heart and Giants pride going out there as banged up as he was. Gave his all for the team, on Sundays.
do the right thing
djm : 5/6/2013 11:24 pm : link
and give it to Ahmad Bradshaw. Please.
Stevie Brown.
LawrenceTaylor56 : 5/6/2013 11:24 pm : link
.
Stevie Brown is a great choice ...
Manny in CA : 5/6/2013 11:48 pm : link
But how can you give it to anybody else but Bradshaw ?

My favorite moments - screaming and hollering at Tom because he wanted to go into the game; playing with "everything" broken.

He's the perfect example of a young man who screwed up big (having to go to jail for it) to one who cautiously took to being a Giant, then cried alligator tears when told he was not coming back.

If we had a room-full of Bradshaws, the other teams would afraid to come out to take the field against us.
Bradshaw... you know why
Blue Blood : 5/6/2013 11:49 pm : link
not only for gutting it out every single week on a bad wheel.. but because he brought it so many times.. so many games.. he didnt have the size of others.. or the speed.. but he had HEART !!!

I like what Stevie Brown did.. but Bradshaw was the heart and soul of the team IMO.. and that deserves recognition and reward.. its not just about stats..

The award IMO is for the Giant of the Year..

Who represented the Giants better last year?? Bradshaw gave his all.. played hurt.. played through injuries.. broken feet.. never complained.. was there every Sunday.. thats Giants football..

Bradshaw's Giants Career Highlights - ( New Window )
Not only that.. when I was kid.. Doug Kotar was my favorite Giant
Blue Blood : 5/6/2013 11:51 pm : link
AB did that 44 proud !!!!!!
As someone on BBI said
Blue Blood : 5/6/2013 11:55 pm : link
Ahmad Bradshaw.. the man who runs like he is angry at the grass LOL !!
No player on the roster deserves it
Kyle : 5/7/2013 12:19 am : link
.
Bradshaw should get it
cjd2404 : 5/7/2013 8:07 am : link
for his fiery leadership, which will be missed, and getting those stats hobbled. Only wish we saw him healthy and on 2 feet. That would have been a sight
Eric, would it be possible to have a joint John Mara/Steve Tisch
Victor in CT : 5/7/2013 8:52 am : link
candidacy? After seeing the Jets mess play out, I appreciate more and more the way JM and ST have continued the tradition of dignity and class established by Wellington Mara and re-enforced by Bob Tisch. JM and ST have seamlessly continued the harmonious and professional atmosphere forged by the fathers. It is that culture that allows JR, TC and co to do their jobs.
How about Will Beatty........
Simms11 : 5/7/2013 9:02 am : link
Extremely consistent and kept Eli's blind-side clean most of the year.
Stevie Brown was the most dynamic, playmaking guy we had on
BoldRuler : 5/7/2013 9:18 am : link
defense last year. Most of the team had a 'down' year in my opinion, yet Stevie Brown was making play after play. Lot's of picks and was a solid safety. He's not a sexy name, the most famous or longest tenured Giant, but in my opinion had the best individual season last year.

Stevie Brown.
I was just coming on to say the same thing Kyle said
Greg from LI : 5/7/2013 9:21 am : link
.
I'd say a fan deserves....
Ryan : 5/7/2013 9:30 am : link
...the award in lieu of a player this year for enduring the team's lackluster late season effort.

I nominate Elitemob32 and JerseyJoeDynasty.
Victor
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/7/2013 10:15 am : link
the problem is we would need to buy two trophies. The trophy is $900.
It seems
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/7/2013 10:21 am : link
like most of you are saying the original six candidates are fine (Coughlin, Manning, Bradshaw, Cruz, Brown, Rolle).

Common names that kept coming up were Bennett, Pope, Tynes, Beatty, and Boothe.

Do you guys really think Tynes should be on the list? While Tynes kicked the second-most FGs in 2012 (33), he was only 18th in FG percentage. Also, his miss against the Skins was a killer, and he had two shots at the FG in Philly (granted that was a long kick).

I understand Eric. Would one with both names suffice?
Victor in CT : 5/7/2013 10:28 am : link
Speaking hypothetically, would you get 2 trophies if there was a tie?
