Victor.
Can't wait to see the full details....
rptl530 : 7/8/2013 1:35 pm : link
but if it's essentially a 6 yr deal and $15.6 guaranteed, that's an incredibly sweet deal for the Giants.

with those numbers it's unlikely Eli re-restructured since the $2.8M already counted against the cap and they were in good cap shape next season and beyond.
It's good for Cruz as well
YAJ2112 : 7/8/2013 1:36 pm : link
As young as he is, he will almost assuredly see the whole 46 million.
very solid

deal for the Giants. As noted millions of times, this is why you should be patient with things like this. How many "Cruz is greedy" type threads did we really need?

Can people now accept that the giants and cruz were simply going through a very standard negotiation process?

Can't wait to see this happen with Nicks and that same contingent screams about how he's greedy, just like Cruz was.
That's a great deal for the Giants...
Jan in DC : 7/8/2013 1:37 pm : link
Having him play for that 3 mil this year and adding the 5 on top of that? Great great stuff.
well sure, Cruz wont exactly suffer
islander1 : 7/8/2013 1:38 pm : link
with the guaranteed money and endorsements he's going to have locked in now. He also can say it's not "his" contract that hamstrings the franchise because this is a more then fair deal for the FO.
yay

NICE JOB, GIANTS AND VICTOR!!!
Okay, so can we now put to rest
eclipz928 : 7/8/2013 1:40 pm : link
at least temporarily this idea that Reese is a mediocre GM and Cruz is a money-hungry diva? This is an absolutely fantastic deal that speaks well to both of these guys character and professionalism.
I'm stunned at how
T-Bone : 7/8/2013 1:41 pm : link
good a deal that is for the Giants.
'Tis a great day for all.
arcarsenal : 7/8/2013 1:41 pm : link
The deal was inevitable.. I never ever felt like there was a chance it wouldn't get done but I'm glad it's finally over with.
In Reese we trust, indeed.

Great news.
an_idol_mind : 7/8/2013 1:41 pm : link
The Giants have an excellent young receiver locked up now and Cruz gets his money.

Big thumbs up for Cruz, too, for keeping quiet to the media during the whole affair.
Still no sticky?

Don't want to compete with 'What's everyone think of the new front page?' thread?
Can the "fuck this guy, he's a diva" crowd please come forward?

What's also great about this deal
eclipz928 : 7/8/2013 1:44 pm : link
is that it sets the standard for negotiations with Nicks. It'll be feasible for the Giants to hold onto both these guys if Nicks decides to take similar money.
Reese deserves a new contract...
GMAN4LIFE : 7/8/2013 1:44 pm : link
this is very impressive.

for an extended period of time. Really psyched about this, like everyone else. Cruz is a great player.
great news!
UConn4523 : 7/8/2013 1:46 pm : link
hope all the idiots who claimed he was a clown for taking this long go away. The guy did what was best for his family and it looks like both sides got a great deal.

Depends on when the bonus payments happen.

If Cruz got any kind of immediate signing bonus, part of that has to be amortized against the '13 salary cap. While it's certainly possible that the big bonus payment is going to come at the beginning of the '14 League Year, it would absolutely floor me if Victor won't get at least a little cash in his pocket when he signs the deal.
looking forward
NYG007 : 7/8/2013 1:47 pm : link
to our cap guru posting the details, if we cut him in year 3, etc, all that juicy stuff.

now, we gurantee a few things with Nicks.

A) long term deal
B) Franchise and guranteed him in 2014
C) Trade to the Panthers for several picks, because thats where he wants to play if no NYG

Thank you Victor, you earned it, now on to Nicks.
Well...

Nicks isn't going to take similar money. He wants outside reciever money. Cruz is top of the market slot reciever money.
Awesome news

I have a tough time seeing a Nicks trade to the Panthers
David in LA : 7/8/2013 1:50 pm : link
Hakeem will be UFA, a trade would have to be worked out before week 6 this year for that to happen.
Woohoo!

he could be Franchised and traded.
Frees up the Franchise Tag or Transition Tag

My guess is Nicks will get something between Jennings and Wallace

probably 5 years, $52 million, $22 million guaranteed

with Aditi K. just said that he just signed the deal that was on the table from the get go. The one where Mara said if he signed it, he would be a very rich young man. So nothing new, we wouldn't budge and he took the offer that was there on the table.
Excellent news
B in ALB : 7/8/2013 1:58 pm : link
So BBI went thru its normal timeline of madness:

- Greedy asshole Cruz needs to sign now!
- Cruz is going to the Steelers
- He spends too much time modeling
- He spends too much time as a shill for Time Warner
- Fuck him, let him walk we still have Nix
- Fuck him, let him walk we still have Jernigan who's ready for a breakout year
- Fuck him, let him walk Randall's ready to dominate because Jernigan sucks
- Fuck him, let him walk he drops too many balls and didnt block once
- Shit!!! He signed his tender!!! Damnit! This is the end! No more Curz!!!
- Yea!!!!! He signed his tender!!!
- Anybody hear from Curz?
- Sides are too far apart
- One year rental
- Sides are really close
- Yeah, whatever
- Could be today
- Could be tomorrow
- Woohooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Five year extension!!!!!!!!!! We're all geniuses and Curz rules!!!
Playing this year for his tender
GiantFilthy : 7/8/2013 1:58 pm : link
makes this a crazy good deal for the Giants when you think about the other numbers that have been thrown around for the last couple of months.

Excited to see the Eli-Cruz combo for the rest of their careers!
I can't imagine the Giants not having to budge at all.
GiantFilthy : 7/8/2013 1:59 pm : link
Don't think this was the time or the player to give a take it or leave it type deal.
Good deal both ways
njm : 7/8/2013 1:59 pm : link
The difference in endorsement money and other perks from playing in NY should more than offset any difference in salary Cruz would have received from another team.
Kevin, a franchise tag would be an enormous sum to be on the hook for
David in LA : 7/8/2013 2:00 pm : link
I don't think we have that type of room to tag Hakeem. I suppose we can use a transition tag though.
Yussss!
Geomon : 7/8/2013 2:01 pm : link
If he's playing this year....
rptl530 : 7/8/2013 2:01 pm : link
for the $2.875m and that's part of the $15.6m guar then that's even better. Even if you add 2.875 to the 15.6 it's a good deal for the Giants.
now victor...
shabu : 7/8/2013 2:03 pm : link

Congratz !
David, the amounts aren't that different between the tags

While the Patriots fans turn in their Aaron Hernandez jerseys, we get to keep and relish our CRUZ jerseys!

Long live #80! Viva Cruz! Viva Cruz!

That's a GREAT JOB by JR and the Giants FO.

Nice job by Cruz to take it and rake in the NYC endorsements and business opportunities.

WIN-WIN-WIN

JR is in a great position to negotiate with Nicks now at an average of $8.5 per. Given last season and the time he missed due to injury through his 1st contract, that would be a helluva deal.

Are you stating that's what you think he will get from the Giants, or in general. Hoping we can extend him too, but I'm not holding my breath...
I think from the Giants. If he hits the open market
jlukes : 7/8/2013 2:15 pm : link
I could see him getting more
