Who Takes over when Coughlin Retires?

BigBlueDownTheShore : 7/17/2013 9:48 am
We all know that somewhere in the near future, Coughlin is going to retire and that the Giants like to promote from within/ hire people who have been with the organization before. That being said here are my top choices:

1) Sean Payton- Yes he has a bad rap for the whole Bounty Gate, thing, but I would love to see Eli play in his offensive system, and he is one of the most successful coaches that has previously worked for the Giants.

2) John Fox- He has been to a Superbowl, and has a fairly decent record as a head coach. Most importantly, he would bring toughness back to our defense which we all would love to see.

3) Mike Sullivan- He is a rising star in the league, and is running a similar offense in Tampa, so there would be less of a transition if he took over.

I'm thinking both

manning & coughlin go out at the same time.

My guess would be four or five years and one more super bowl win.

By that time some new name coach might be the man , as far as Spitter goes the man takes forever to mold a team, no thanks.
Stanford

I forget his name, but the current of Stanford I think will get a look see.
I think it depends on where

we are at the QB position. If say TC retires in 3 years and Eli is still in his prime, then I think they bring in a big name like Cowher. If for some reason we're in a rebuilding mode, then they might be more likely to go with a younger/less experienced guy.
I'd be good with Fewell

within two years we'd have a top 3 pick and could be like the Colts or Redskins as long as we're lucky enough to have a Luck or RG3 coming out that year.

As far as the current coach goes he's going to ride #10, his ticket to the hall of fame, as long as the Giants let him. The minute #10 is gone there will be a new Head Coach for the Giants.
Peyton.

Get him a good DC and some position coaches, and he's good to go!
John Mara doesn't...

stick his nose into things very often, but I don't think the next HC is going to be solely up to Reese.
How about Accorsie's first

choice, Nick Saban?

Realistically, it's going to be Gilbride or Fewell, and then all hell will break loose on BBI.
Saban has the life in Alabama

but if he wins yet another National Title what else does he have to prove in College? As a Giants fan I would absolutely love for Saban to be the next head coach.

If Coughlin retires and the season ends in positive fashion, the reigns are going to be handed over to Kevin Gilbride to maintain continuity.

The only way this will not happen is if during the year or two Coughlin has left, the tires fall completely off.
Amazingly enough

as shitty as I feel Fewell is as a DC, I really think he has a lot of good head coach qualities. I think he can take the heat from the media, I do think he can fire his players up (despite the diarrhea sandwich we saw on defense last year) and I believe that free of his responsibilities to specifically gameplan he might be a decent candidate.

I think it's also kind of a decision tree...
JB in NJ : 7/17/2013 9:37 pm : link
Before they even get to candidates, I think the decision first needs to be made on whether or not they want to stay witin the organization or look outside. I agree with the notion that kicking Fewell upstairs into the HC spot could actually work out for the best.

I just have a feeling that if they look outside, it's going to be Cowher. I think Sullivan could be a candidate if Tampa's O takes off.

It also wouldn't shock me if Belichick wound up back here to finish out his career.
I don't think Gilbride

just because a hooker can give good head doesn't mean she can run a brothel ...
Cowher
Tark10 : 7/18/2013 8:42 am : link
This organization always promoted from within years ago. That led to long term failure. If Belicheck gets run out of N.E... maybe..
Why on earth do people think they'd turn over the franchise to
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/18/2013 8:59 am : link
Gilbride?

That might be something Wellington might do, but not Reese/Mara.
Hopefully its some new

offensive minded coach that can create a good system for us .
Gilbride can't even get a real look from a decent DI school at this

point, despite being a 2x-SB winning OC and being pretty openly desperate for another shot at head coaching.

There's not a chance in hell he's ever going to HC the Giants. As much as the thought sickens me, even Fewell has a significantly better chance at the job post-Coughlin (not that he has much of one himself, hopefully).
I sure hope
BigBlueDownTheShore : 7/18/2013 1:03 pm : link
that Fewell is not the next head coach. I can't stand him.
