10 new starters?

ZGiants98 : 7/20/2013 12:25 am
Ahmad Bradshaw, Martellus Bennett, Dominick Hixon, Chris Canty, Osi Umenyora, Michael Boley, Chase Blackburn, Kiwi, Kenny Phillips, and Lawrence Tynes.

I know Hixon isn't really thought of as a starter but he did start a ton of games on the outside with Cruz playing the slot. You can certainly make a case that Osi wasn't a starter either but he played a bunch of snaps and was still pretty integral to our defense. Kiwi although still on the team is no longer starting at LB.

That's almost half the team. Its really crazy how much turnover there has been in one year. Considering how bad our defense was last year it could be a blessing however there are so many different intangibles and question marks this year. Definitely a different feeling heading into 2013 then years past.

It is fairer to say a 1/3rd.....if you include non-base players, kicke

Osi, Bradshaw and Tynes will be the greatest losses....and it is felt we are bringing in improvements.

Osi was a very disruptive force...but a liability in the running game....Kiwi, Jenkins will bring more physicality to position.....if not more sacks.

Bradshaw vs Wilson....I loved Bradshaw's heart.....but Wilson is far more explosive....he must step up to challenge.

Tynes became pretty steady even though, I was always concerned when he kicked....supposedly, we are getting stronger leg....time will tell

Bennett and Canty....
George from PA : 7/20/2013 5:32 am : link
Bennett was a force but never truly on same page with Eli....We lose blocking but will gain in the passing game.

Canty...was great but was a shell of himself last year....we have plenty DT in camp...to sort it out
I personally think
ZGiants98 : 7/20/2013 7:52 am : link
we'll be fine but Im saying that is a lot of players in prominent roles over the last few years. Even if guys like Boley and Canty had down years, they were instrumental in our Super Bowl run.

Like I said, I think we'll be fine, but bringing in so many new faces could mean a lot of different things for 2013.
We will be better than fine
mdthedream : 7/20/2013 7:59 am : link
its not like the new guys never played a down. The Giants upgraded and the offense will be very good.
I agree
Doomster : 7/20/2013 8:57 am : link
that the offense has to carry this team.....if Pugh can be a starter at RT, if Snee bounces back, and Baas can stay healthy, this OL could jell and get time of possession more on our side......the offensive weapons are there....just a matter of executing...

The defense is another matter.....I don't see a pass rush from these guys....if JPP is not ready for opening day, and I mean ready to play, not just putting a body out there, this defense is in trouble....with all the new starters, and Fewell running the show, this is a big unknown....You may not see the "usual" 6-2 start....

But if Eli has a big year and plays with the confidence of 2011, this offense is capable of making up for the defense's shortcomings.....it will be an interesting year....

This team has to get a break this year, and stay away from serious injuries....

Bradshaw, Canty, and KP are the ones that matter
UberAlias : 7/20/2013 9:02 am : link
The others are just guys.

Bradshaw, the team obviously wanted to move on with their first round pick. Canty and KP were limited factors last year due to injuries. For them I think we have replaced Canty sufficiently, however safety remains a question mark.
10 starters from a non playoff team
ZogZerg : 7/20/2013 9:22 am : link
Not as big a deal.
I don't see any of them as a big loss.
Except for maybe Bradshaw. He was a real warrior.
I applaud the Giants for not trying to hang on to players
Marty in Albany : 7/20/2013 11:36 am : link
who needed to or wanted to go. I can't fault the Giants on any of the changes.
Always better a year too early
chiro56 : 7/20/2013 5:35 pm : link
Then a year too late. The great thing about Reese, he is always on the year too early page.
Canty, Boley and Osi didn't have the same impact in 2012 as they
fredgbrown : 7/20/2013 6:09 pm : link
had the previous year. Blackburn also was horrible for the most part. I believe the defense will be so much better this year if JPP injury doesn't sideline him for too long and if Tuck and Webster can have bounce back years.
If I had to keep only
bluepepper : 7/21/2013 12:11 am : link
one guy from that list, it would be Kiwanuka.... and we kept him. Bennett would have been nice too, but we have a decent replacement so even that's not a big deal.
i like the defence
msh : 7/23/2013 11:55 am : link
they finally replaced hammers role in the DL they needed a NT for a long time, jenkins is an upgrade over canty, austin still as some upside and potential in backup role

hosely and prince are improving as nothing helps CB like expirence, ross gives them depth at slot cover,t2 could be a wildcard there too if webster is better they are in better shape than most think

i loved kenny but lets be honest he missed too much time and i doubt he sees the field much for philly this year, its a no brainer to keep stevie brown over him.rolle is the bigger question for me he seams to blow far too many assignments especially with his huge contract,t2 could also be the third safety role if he is healthy again, cooper taylor is also one to watch he could be the difference covering TE's they need,i would have added will hill to this but his latest suspension means his position on the team is in severe question i can see him being a roster cut down

i am prob in the minority but im not as worried about the LB corp. as long as williams is back to full strength. he was the biggest difference at LB last year when he wasnt there or wasnt 100%,connors and curry should be an upgrade too the improved DL strength should also improve the LB play
they just need to slow the RB for the DL to tackle or mop up

osi's total lack of run support is also an issue they no longer need to worry about, and moore is going to surprise alot of people this year, kiwi being back at end is also an upgrade there too.tuck should be better this year too if not they have some more options this year than they didnt have last year
I actually think that Boley is the most significant loss out of that
eclipz928 : 7/23/2013 12:06 pm : link
group. Everyone else either has a viable replacement this season or were just unproductive last season. Bradshaw is not a big loss at all. Running backs of his calibre are easy to come by these days - although he did develop into quite a good blocker.
Boley
NJGiantFan84 : 7/23/2013 1:51 pm : link
was pretty bad last year. Although, i think a lot of Vets let the SB get to their head, so I tend to agree that he was the most significant loss. I do think we will miss Bradshaw's toughness. Our offense doesn't really have that "Jacobs, Shockey, bradshaw, punch you in the mouth" type. That may not be a bad thing, but it will be different than what we have gotten used to in the last 9-10 years.
