Who sits if TT comes back healthy?

Let me preface this by saying that this is a HUGE IF. I know the odds are very much stacked against TT making it back and playing a full/healthy season. I know the odds are even greater that he makes it through AND regains his pro bowl level abilities.

My question is, that if the above mentioned things do happen, and he is out there performing at a Pro Bowl level, who does he replace? TT was never quick enough to play the slot, so one would think the only logical places for him are lined up outside or playing Safety. Now if we go with the 3-safety defense again, that could work, but if we are going 2 safeties, does Webster get benched? He does not have the speed to play in the slot either. Rolle will not be benched, so the only other logical choice would be Brown.

I know this is all hypothetical, and I pray that the Giants have this kind of problem to figure out. Would certainly make for an interesting camp battle between TT and CW if everyone is healthy, as I think we can all agree that Prince has his spot locked down.

TT is not becoming a full time starter on the outside. And, how was he not quick enough to play the slot? That's exactly where the Giants were going to play him before his injury.

Usually the quicker WR's play in the slot. TT was never know for being quick BEFORE his ACL tears. One would think he is not going to be any quicker after.

No offense but it doesn't matter what "people think". TT was supposed to be the slot corner before he got hurt. There is no debating that.

don't think he makes the team absent injuries. Also, it's unlikely that any other team would pick him up if he was cut given his health history.

That's all well and good, but I am not so sure that plan will work going forward. Im no expert, but slot WR's tend to be the quicker/shiftier types. Coming off 2 ACL injuries, I am not sure that TT would be able play the slot well effectively. Then again.....this is all hypothetical anyways.

I don't understand your point. I pointed out how you said he was never quick enough to play in the slot and I pointed out how that was incorrect. Now you are talking about the future when we were talking about the past. Ok, so lets play the future game. You said lets assume that he is completely back to how healthy he was before the injury. If he was back to that form and he originally back to his old health then why wouldn't the Giants put him back in the slot? But then you go on to say that he will be worse after the injury. You have to make up your mind. You can't just twist the hypothetical around to fit your opinion.

Got it. Slot it is. My point was if the Giants wanted to preserve the health of his knee, I would think they would want him playing on the outside where there wasn't as much cutting and where you generally deal with bigger wr's.

Your reasoning is why he is not going to be a full time starter

They are going to treat him with kid gloves and see how he progresses which is exactly why he will not take over for CW or PA. I agree he may not be in the slot because of his injury but he isn't going to take over as a full time starter. He is a very good tackler but that could change too if he doesn't have the confidence or abilty in his knee. He will probably work out at corner but I can also see him at safety. He was also a good blitzer which is one reason why they wanted him in the slot along with his tackling.

Either way it will be interesting to see where TT ultimately ends up and how well he does.

Ideally TT will fill the Deon Grant role

Webster, Amukamara, Hosley, Ross and Thomas make up a formidable stable of cover guys.

I don't know if Fewell will do it, and I know many media guys have been saying otherwise, but I'm not expecting much from Webster so having depth at CB is essential.

A guy to keep a close eye on is Charles James. Excited to see what he can do in coverage and on specials.

Lately CB's have had trouble staying healthy so the more the better!

He'd instantly be our #1 corner.

But realistically, best case scenario he's #3 or 4 - is there still chatter of moving him to Safety?

It was thrown out there in an interivew and they didn't rule it out, but no where have they suggested it is something they are planning. They basically said right now we just want to see where is in his recovery.

It's such a shame. He was actually becoming a master at slot corner, one of the best tackling corners in the league playing a lot of plays in the box and/or blitzing. He was all over the place that preseason before that tear from JPP's leg whip. That was going to be one hell of a year from him. Shame he missed out on that Super Bowl.

sorry to repeat myself but from earlier thoughts, for me t2 is our big wild card. if he's able to stay on the field, i see him in the charles woodson (packers) role as the slot DB and some S. if u remember, woodson wasn't just traditional nickel, capers moved him all over the place and gave him special projects. Rover, confusing the hell out of the QB and part of a cohesive, comprehensive coverage and blitz package.

he is just a good football player, he's big, good hands, he understands how to prepare, read, play zone and man, off and up, communicate, disguise, get under an o's skin. hes a pro and can be glue 4 us

I agree with you. I think (if healthy) that TT could be the X-factor on our defense that takes us from a below average secondary to, at worst, a serviceable one. I am not counting on him in the least, but if by some miracle he can do it, than he could be the difference maker.

Also, this has been done before just last year with Thomas Davis. So its not totally out of the realm of possibility that TT can do this.

Can you imagine sending him out to start a game because one of the above has a muscle tweak and is only 95%?

This is a luxury that defensive coaches would love to have.

He'll get an opportunity to play Grant's safety position in camp, we'll have to see if he earns some playing time back there, otherwise he's in the nickel CB battle.

people thinking a healthy Thomas doesn't make the team are out of their minds. From a mental/knowledge standpoint alone, he'll make the roster.

after three ACLs, and weigh it against the potential of a younger player without the knee history, for example. If the roster numbers work against T2, they could choose to waive him and stick with Hosley.

In other words, not a slam dunk he makes the team even if healthy.
